An experimental research investigated the components of lottery games affecting lottery-purchasing behaviors and the psychological consequences of the behaviors. In the experiment, participants were given a chance to purchase a lottery tickets during a series of computer games and their decision of purchasing the lottery ticket was measured. Also, the size and probability of the lottery games were manipulated and the perceived difficulty, satisfaction of the mid-outcome, and perceived probability of success in the computer game were measured in order to examine their impacts on participants' lottery-purchasing decisions. In addition, the behavioral tendency, satisfaction of the final outcome, and perceived self-capability in the computer game were measured at the end of the computer games in order to examine the effects of lottery-purchasing experiences on the variables. Participants who perceived the games as easier and estimated the probability of their success highly were more likely to buy the lottery tickets. However, the winning prize and odd of lottery tickets, perceived satisfaction of their own performance, and the performance itself did not influence the purchasing decisions. The common beliefs on the negative effects of lottery-purchasing experiences on human motivation and behaviors were not supported. The implications of the present research findings and limitations of the experimental research on lottery were discussed.

In this paper, we proposed a methodology to effectively determine the selection and prioritization of new business and innovation projects using AI technology. AI technology is a technology that can upgrade the business of companies in various industries and increase the added value of the entire industry. However, there are various constraints and difficulties in the decision-making process of selecting and implementing AI projects in the enterprise. In this paper, we propose a new methodology for prioritizing AI projects using Morphology, AHP, and TOPSIS. The proposed methodology helps prioritize AI projects by simultaneously considering the technical feasibility of AI technology and real-world user requirements. In this study, we applied the proposal methodology to a real enterprise that wanted to prioritize multiple AI projects in the HR field and evaluated the results. The results confirm the practical applicability of the methodology and suggest ways to use it to help companies make decisions about AI projects. The significance of the methodology proposed in this study is that it is a framework for prioritizing multiple AI projects considered by a company in the most reasonable way by considering both business and technical factors at the same time.

Role models are also known to influence an individual's job or career choice. The positive effect of role models on entrepreneurship has already been revealed through many precious researches. It is said that people choose not only family members who are related by blood, such as parents, siblings, and relatives, but also acquaintances whom they have met through social relationships as role models. In this study, we divided into entrepreneurs with no role models other than themselves and entrepreneurs with role models. In addition, we classified parental siblings and relative role models as role models with strong ties, and acquaintance role models as role models with weak ties. We analyzed the differences in personal attributes, entrepreneurial orientation factors, and learning orientation between the entrepreneurs with role models and those without role models. Also, the differences in personal attributes, innovativeness, proactiveness, risk-taking propensity, and learning orientation between the entrepreneurs with strong ties role models and those with weak ties role models were examined. The empirical analysis results are as follows. First, it was found that the proportion of women entrepreneurs without role models is higher. Second, the entrepreneurs with role models with weak ties tend to run larger scale start-ups. Third, it was found that the entrepreneurs with role models of weak ties tend to have higher learning orientation. Fourth, gender shows the greatest influence on th absence or presence of role models. Fifth, it was found that learning orientation and startup size have the greatest influence on the decision of the role model with weak ties or that with strong ties.
Many online travel agencies (OTAs) provide average ratings and time-relevant information or the most recently posted reviews regarding hotels to satisfy customers. To identify these two factors' relative influence on behavioral decision-making processes, we conducted two studies: (1) an experimental research design to explore the relative influence of the two on online review consumption and (2) an empirical approach to examine their relative impact on online review generation. The results show that when review posters observe an inconsistency between average ratings and recent reviews, they tend to deviate from the recent reviews regardless of the overall direction (reactance behavior). Meanwhile, review consumers tend to conform to the opinions presented in recent reviews (herding behavior). Additionally, in both cases, the effects are amplified in case of a negative aberration. Based on the findings, this study provides theoretical and practical implications regarding the relative influences of average rating and recently posted reviews and their different impacts on online review consumption and generation.
As the influence of online reviews on consumer decision-making increases, concerns about review manipulation are also increasing. Fake reviews or review manipulations are emerging as an important problem by posting untrue reviews in order to increase sales volume, causing the consumer's reverse choice, and acting at a high cost to the society as a whole. Most of the related prior studies have focused on predicting review manipulation through data mining methods, and research from a consumer perspective is insufficient. However, since the possibility of manipulation of reviews perceived by consumers can affect the usefulness of reviews, it can provide important implications for online word-of-mouth management regardless of whether it is false or not. Therefore, in this study, we analyzed whether there is a difference between the review evaluated by the consumer as being manipulated and the general review, and verified whether the manipulated review negatively affects the review usefulness. For empirical analysis, 34,711 online book reviews on the LibraryThing website were analyzed using multilevel logistic regression analysis and Poisson regression analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was found that there were differences in product level, reviewer level, and review level factors between reviews that consumers perceived as being manipulated and reviews that were not. In addition, manipulated reviews have been shown to negatively affect review usefulness.

Autonomous driving technology, when commercialized, has the potential to improve the safety, mobility, and environmental performance of transportation networks. However, safe autonomous driving may be hindered by poor sensor performance and limitations in long-distance detection. Therefore, cooperative autonomous driving that can supplement information collected from surrounding vehicles and infrastructure is essential. In addition, since HDVs, AVs, and CAVs have different ranges of perceivable information and different response protocols, countermeasures are needed for mixed traffic that occur during the transition period of autonomous driving technology. There is a lack of research on traffic flow optimization that considers the penetration rate of autonomous vehicles and the different characteristics of each road segment. The objective of this study is to develop weights based on safety, operational, and environmental factors for each infrastructure control use case and autonomous vehicle MPR. To develop an integrated evaluation index, infra-guidance AHP and hybrid AHP weights were combined. Based on the results of this study, it can be used to give right of way to each vehicle to optimize mixed traffic.

Background: Data on perioperative outcomes of emergent versus elective resection in esophageal cancer patients requiring esophagectomy are lacking. We investigated whether emergent resection was associated with increased risks of morbidity and mortality. Methods: Data on patients with esophageal malignancy who underwent esophagectomy from 2005 to 2020 were retrospectively analyzed from the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database. Thirty-day complication and mortality rates were compared between emergent esophagectomy (EE) and non-emergent esophagectomy. Logistic regression assessed factors associated with complications and mortality. Results: Of 10,067 patients with malignancy who underwent esophagectomy, 181 (1.8%) had EE, 64% had preoperative systemic inflammatory response syndrome, sepsis, or septic shock, and 44% had bleeding requiring transfusion. The EE group had higher American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) class and functional dependency. More transhiatal esophagectomies and diversions were performed in the EE group. After EE, the rates of 30-day mortality (6.1% vs. 2.8%), overall complications (65.2% vs. 44.2%), bleeding, pneumonia, prolonged intubation, and positive margin (17.7% vs. 7.4%) were higher, while that of anastomotic leak was similar. On adjusted logistic regression, older age, lower albumin, higher ASA class, and fragility were associated with increased complications and mortality. McKeown esophagectomy and esophageal diversion were associated with a higher risk of postoperative complications. EE was associated with 30-day postoperative complications (odds ratio, 2.39; 95% confidence interval, 1.66-3.43; p<0.0001). Conclusion: EE was associated with a more than 2-fold increase in complications compared to elective procedures, but no independent increase in short-term mortality. These findings may help guide data-driven critical decision-making for surgery in select cases of complicated esophageal malignancy.

This paper investigates the financial factors affecting angel investors' investment decisions for 818 firms from 2009 to 2018 in the Korean venture investment market. We construct a quasi-experimental design using propensity scoring matching and compare the investment determinants between investment firms and matching firms. The main empirical findings are as follows. First, we find that angel investors are more likely to choose firms based on a firm's growth such as profit and assets rather than profitability or financial stability. In addition, we identify that they prefer the firm not only higher intangible assets but also higher R&D expenditures. Second, we find that angel investors consider both growth and activity ratios in the firms for over three years and have entered the mid-stage of startups. Overall, we confirm that the investment decision of angel investors mainly focuses on the venture startups' growth trend or future growth potential rather than the realized profitability or financial stability. We also infer that the possibility of performance creation is an important investment factor along with growth for the mid-stage startup.
Objective: We aimed to investigate whether 2-[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (2-[18F]FDG PET/CT) can aid in evaluating the risk of malignancy in ampullary tumors detected by endoscopy. Materials and Methods: This single-center retrospective cohort study analyzed 155 patients (79 male, 76 female; mean age, 65.7 ± 12.7 years) receiving 2-[18F]FDG PET/CT for endoscopy-detected ampullary tumors 5-87 days (median, 7 days) after the diagnostic endoscopy between June 2007 and December 2020. The final diagnosis was made based on histopathological findings. The PET imaging parameters were compared with clinical data and endoscopic features. A model to predict the risk of malignancy, based on PET, endoscopy, and clinical findings, was generated and validated using multivariable logistic regression analysis and an additional bootstrapping method. The final model was compared with standard endoscopy for the diagnosis of ampullary cancer using the DeLong test. Results: The mean tumor size was 17.1 ± 7.7 mm. Sixty-four (41.3%) tumors were benign, and 91 (58.7%) were malignant. Univariable analysis found that ampullary neoplasms with a blood-pool corrected peak standardized uptake value in earlyphase scan (SUVe) ≥ 1.7 were more likely to be malignant (odds ratio [OR], 16.06; 95% confidence interval [CI], 7.13-36.18; P < 0.001). Multivariable analysis identified the presence of jaundice (adjusted OR [aOR], 4.89; 95% CI, 1.80-13.33; P = 0.002), malignant traits in endoscopy (aOR, 6.80; 95% CI, 2.41-19.20; P < 0.001), SUVe ≥ 1.7 in PET (aOR, 5.43; 95% CI, 2.00-14.72; P < 0.001), and PET-detected nodal disease (aOR, 5.03; 95% CI, 1.16-21.86; P = 0.041) as independent predictors of malignancy. The model combining these four factors predicted ampullary cancers better than endoscopic diagnosis alone (area under the curve [AUC] and 95% CI: 0.925 [0.874-0.956] vs. 0.815 [0.732-0.873], P < 0.001). The model demonstrated an AUC of 0.921 (95% CI, 0.816-0.967) in candidates for endoscopic papillectomy. Conclusion: Adding 2-[18F]FDG PET/CT to endoscopy can improve the diagnosis of ampullary cancer and may help refine therapeutic decision-making, particularly when contemplating endoscopic papillectomy.

By identifying the relationship between Interest of Entrepreneurship and intention, this study clarifies the entire lifecycle process leading up to a college student's decision to start a business. We explore whether an individual's Interest of Entrepreneurship stemming from start-up activities and the interest of parents toward their children's start-up affect start-up intention. For this purpose, attitude toward start-up, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, which are components of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), were set as parameters. Furthermore, start-up self-efficacy was established as a moderating variable to examine the relationships between factors and their importance. In addition, survey questionnaires were collected from 300 college students in Korea, and after excluding 18 insincere responses, a total of 282 were analyzed using SPSS 26 and AMOS 26. The main findings are as follows. First, an individual's Interest of Entrepreneurship has a significant impact on start-up intention, mediated by attitude toward start-up, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. Therefore, future college start-up education should apply the components of TPB to enhance its effectiveness, and various start-up activities should be provided to foster students' interest. Secondly, parents' interest in start-up has a significant impact on subjective norms and perceived behavioral control. Therefore, even if parents are interested in their children's start-up activities, such interest does not necessarily lead to favorable attitude. However, as it significantly impacts subjective norms and perceived behavioral control, start-up education targeting parents linked to these parameters could increase college students' Interest of Entrepreneurship and intentions.
