  • This paper proposes the novel investment priority decision method for distribution facilities considering the potential failure rate and the influence of customer caused by faults in distribution networks. The Proposed method decides the investment priority of the facilities combining, by the fuzzy rules, the KEPCO's priority decision for investment and the priority decision considering SAIFI(System Average Interruption Frequency Index) and SAIDI(System Average Interruption Duration Index). To verify the performance of the proposed method, these works utilized the projects for weak facility reinforcement planned in KEPCO in the Busan region in 2003 and 2004. The evaluation results showed that the reliability of the KEPCO in the Busan region using the proposed method can be enhanced more than using the conventional KEPCO's method.

  • Manufacturing Production System (MPS) has been widely accepted in construction area for the productivity improvement. However, the MPS does not always provide cost and time saving. It often caused more delays and increased project cost. Therefore the use of the MPS technique, systematic decision-making process is needed by reviewing various project parameters such as cost and time. This study includes extensive literature reviews and case studies on MPS. As a result, a decision-making model is proposed. The decision-making flowchart and decision-making model are developed in three steps: (1) identification and categorization of decision-making factors; (2) calculations of benefits, cost, and duration in accordance with the location and the production capacity of the factory; (3) comparisons of MPS and on-site assembly by varying the locations and sizes of the factory

  • In this study, we have developed a prototype of clinical decision support systems (CDSS) for diagnosing neurogenic bladder and compared its predicted diagnoses with the actual diagnoses using 92 patient\`s Urodynamic study cases. The CDSS was developed using a Visual Basic based on the evidence-based rules extracted from guidelines and other references regarding a diagnosis of neurogenic bladder. To compare with the 92 final diagnoses made by doctors at the Yonsei Rehabilitation Center, we classified all diagnoses into 5 groups. The predictive rates of the CDSS were: 48.0% for areflexic neurogenic bladder; 60.0% for hyperreflexic neurogenic bladder in a spinal shock recovery stage; 72.9% for hyperreflexic neurogenic bladder, and 80.0% for areflexic neurogenic bladder in a spinal shock stage, which was the highest predicted rate. There were only 2 cases for hyperreflexic neurogenic bladder in a well controlled detrusor activity, and its predictive rate was 0%. The study results showed that CDSS for diagnosing neurogenic bladder could provide a helpful advice on decision-making for doctors. The findings also suggest that physicians should be involved in all development stages to ensure that systems are developed in a fashion that maximizes their beneficial effect on patient care, and that systems are acceptable to both professionals and patients. The future studies will concentrate on including more validating the system.

  • A typical production-distribution system consist of three main echelons representing the retailer, distributors, and a factory each with an on-site warehouse. The system is sufficiently general and realistic to represent many industrial situations. However, decision functions and parameters have been selected to apply particularly to the production and distribution of consumer durables. The flows included in the model are materials, orders, and those information flows needed to support the material and order-rate decisions. In this work, a realistic production-distribution system has been used as a basic model, which consists of three sectors: retailer, distributor, and factory. That system is a nonlinear 25th-order continuous system interconnected between the echelons. Using a modern control algorithm, a typical multi-echelon production-distribution system using a dynamic controller is numerically simulated in the nominal plant and in the perturbed plant when the piecewise constant manufacturing decision is limited by a factory manufacturing upper-limit due to capital equipment, manpower, and factory lotsize.

  • Many studies in risk management have been focused on management process, contract relation, and risk analysis in the past decade, but very few studies have addressed project risks from the perspective of risk efficiency. This study started with using Fault Tree Analysis to develop a framework for the decision-making support system of risk management from the perspective of risk efficiency, in order for the support system to find risk strategies of optimal combination for the project manager by the trade-off between project risk and cost of project strategies. Comprehensive and realistic risk strategies must strive for optimal decisions that minimize project risks and risk strategies cost while addressing important data such as risk causes, risk probability, risk impact and risk strategies cost. The risk management in the construction phase of building projects in Taiwan upon important data has been analyzed, that provided the data for support system to include 247 risk causes. Then, 17 risk causes were extracted to demonstrates the decision-making support system of risk management from the perspective of risk efficiency in building project of Taiwan which could reach better combination type of risk strategies for the project manager by the trade-off between risk cost and project risk.
