In spite of the importance of group decision making in corporations and recent active research efforts in group decision support systems in the US., few studies have been done in the area of group decision making in Korea. There is an urgent need to understand the behavior and peculiar characteristics of group decision making in Korea before we initiate any research in developing computer systems to help group decision making. This study proposes a model for group decision making based on the literature survey and empirical studies have been conducted using the model Although this study is exploratory in nature, tentative hypotheses are given for future research in group decision making.
In the medical web forum, people share medical experience and information as patients and patents' families. Some people search medical information written in non-expert language and some people offer words of comport to who are suffering from diseases. Medical web forums play a role of the informative support and the emotional support. We propose the automatic classification model of articles in the medical web forum into the information support and emotional support. We extract text features of articles in web forum using text mining techniques from the perspective of linguistics and then perform supervised learning to classify texts into the information support and the emotional support types. We adopt the Support Vector Machine (SVM), Naive-Bayesian, decision tree for automatic classification. We apply the proposed model to the HealthBoards forum, which is also one of the largest and most dynamic medical web forum.
This study reviews and modifies general IS success models to find success factors of WIS(Web-based Information Systems) and to confirm the relationship between WIS success and user's satisfaction of web use. A WISSM(Web-based Information Success Model extended to include EQ(E-Quality) is developed to anticipate user's intention to use Web-based Agricultural Information System and fit into the survey data from 252 WIS users of RDA(Rural Development Administration). PLS is applied to estimate a structural model based on EQ-WISSM to test hypotheses including 1) users reach a high level of intention to use Web-based Information Systems when they feel a high level of interactivity among an 'E-Quality', 'Decision Making Support Satisfaction' and 'Task Support Satisfaction', and E-Quality boosts intention to use Web-based Information Systems. The results show high path coefficients and $R^2$ values and find followings; First, the EQ-WISSM explains the user's intention to use WAIS quite well. Second, E-Quality can be used well in web-based IS environment to predict IS Success. Finally, this research finds the importance of 'Task Support Satisfaction' as a mediator between 'Decision Making Support Satisfaction', 'E-Quality' and 'Intention to Use'.
Facility layout problems (FLP) are usually treated as design problems. Lack of systematic and objective tools to compare design alternatives results in decision-making to be dominated by the experiences or preferences of designers or managers. To increase objectivity and effectiveness of decision-making in facility layout selections, a decision support model is necessary. We proposed a decision model, which regards the FLP as a multi-attribute decision making (MADM) problem. We identify sets of attributes crucial to layout selections, quantitative indices for attributes, and methods of ranking alternatives. For a requested facility layout design, many alternatives could be developed. The enormous alternatives, various attributes, and comparison of assigned qualitative values to each attribute, form a complicated decision problem. To treat facility layout selection problems as a MADM problem, we used the linear assignment method to rank before selecting those high ranks as candidates. We modelled the application of the Nemawashi process to simulate the group decision-making procedure and help efficiently achieve agreement. The electronics manufacturing service (EMS) industry has frequent and costly facility layout modifications. Our models are helpful to them. We use an electronics manufacturing service company to illustrate the decision-making process of our models.

The effects of goal setting in the context of Multiple Criteria Making (MCDM) are classified into two types : internal and external. In the internal models, the impact of the changed goal is limited only to the other goals in MCDM model. By contrast, in the external models, the impact is limited to the factors not included in the MCDM model. In fact, most real world examples of goal setting have the nature of mixed models. To assist in the goal setting process, the framework named Goal Setting Support (GSS) is developed. The GSS helps decision-makers for mixed models to 1) make internal trade-offs in a way that guarantees non-dominancy after the trade-ofs, and 2) evaluate achieved goals systematically. The GSS can be used in creating Decision Support Systems that will allow interactive goal setting.

This paper is an extended paper showing the role of Decision Support Systems (DSS) in other fields of Marketing Management (M.Mgnt). DSS facilitates in decision making many M.Mgnt concepts and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is one of them and it depends on the firm's tasks for developing and retaining customers while achieving their satisfaction and enhancing the sense of belongingness for their products and services. Profit maximization, the process of customer value, and building strategic values for the firm are the three empirical benefits of CRM that are achieved through analytical, operational, and direction (AOD) capabilities respectively. This research focuses on the application of DSS models of what-if analysis (WIA) for CRM at (AOD) and also shows the dependence on the Information Success model (ISM). Hypothetical data are analyzed for (AOD) by three types of (WIA) to attain CRM and profit maximization and this analytical method can be used by any customer-oriented firm as a general model.

The purpose of this study is to provide a decision support to select an appropriate rapid prototyping(RP) machine that suits the application of a part. Selection factors include concept model, form/fit/functional model, pattern model for molding, material property, build time and part cost that greatly affect the performance of RP machines. However, the selection of a RP is not an easy decision because they are uncertain and vague. For this reason, the aim of this research is to propose hybrid multiple attribute decision making approaches to effectively evaluate RP machines. In addition, because subjective considerations are relevant to selection decision, a fuzzy logic approach is adopted. The proposed selection procedure consists of several steps. First, we identify RP machines that the users consider. After constructing the evaluation criteria, we calculate the weights of the criteria by applying the fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) method. Finally, we construct the fuzzy Technique of Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution(TOPSIS) method to achieve the ranking order of all machines providing the decision information for the selection of RP machines.
The objective of this paper is to show how team study can be advanced with the aid of a current computer technology, that is distributed Artificial Intelligence(DAI). Studying distributed problem solving by using groups of artificial agents, DAI can provide important ideas and techniques for the study of team behaviors like team decision making. To demonstrate the usefulness of DAI models as team research tools, a DAI model called 'Team-Soar' was built and a simulation experiment done with the model was introduced, Here, Team-Soar models a naval command and control team consisting of four members whose mission was to identify the threat level of aircraft. The simulation experiment was performed to examine the relationships of team decision scheme and member incompetence with team performance. Generally, the results of the Team-Soar simulation met expectations and confirmed previous findings in the literature. For example, the results support the existence of main and interaction effects of team decision scheme and member competence on team performance. Certain results of the Team-Soar simulation provide new insights about team decision making, which can be tested against human subjects or empirical data.

Identifying clinical pathways for disease diagnosis and treatment process recommendations are seriously decision-intensive tasks for health care practitioners. It requires them to rely on their expertise and experience to analyze various categories of health parameters from a health record to arrive at a decision in order to provide an accurate diagnosis and treatment recommendations to the end user (patient). Technological adaptation in the area of medical diagnosis using AI is dispensable; using expert systems to assist health care practitioners in decision-making is becoming increasingly popular. Our work architects a novel knowledge-based recommender system model, an expert system that can bring adaptability and transparency in usage, provide in-depth analysis of a patient's medical record, and prescribe diagnostic results and treatment process recommendations to them. The proposed system uses a set of parallel discrete fuzzy rule-based classifier systems, with each of them providing recommended sub-outcomes of discrete medical conditions. A novel knowledge-based combiner unit extracts significant relationships between the sub-outcomes of discrete fuzzy rule-based classifier systems to provide holistic outcomes and solutions for clinical decision support. The work establishes a model to address disease diagnosis and treatment recommendations for primary lung disease issues. In this paper, we provide some samples to demonstrate the usage of the system, and the results from the system show excellent correlation with expert assessments.
