The prevalent phenomenon in the high technology market shows market-determined do facto standard is preferred to de jure standard determined by formal organization. The purpose of the study is to provide a framework to empirically examine the relationship between network externalities and switching costs from the consumer's point of view Key findings of the study are : First, physical compatibility and upgradability are positively related to the network externalities. Second, conceptual compatibility and expertise are negatively related to the switching costs. Third, the network externalities and the switching costs are positively related to the continuous usage decision. Finally, the network externalities are positively related to the switching costs. The followings are major implications of the study. First, network externalities and bandwagon effects have different causal relationship respectively. Second, contrast to Weiss and Heide's (1993) study, the study suggests multiple dimensions of compatibility, Third, physical compatibility and upgradability increase switching costs through network externalities as the moderator.
Supply chain coordination plays a critical role in improving the enterprise performance and the competitive advantage of fresh e-commerce. This study explores the coordination problem of a two-echelon fresh produce e-commerce supply chain comprising a fresh e-commerce enterprise and a fresh supplier in a novel framework. In this framework, the fresh e-commerce sells fresh produce and provides promotion effort; meanwhile, the fresh supplier deliveries fresh produce and provides freshness-keeping effort. Specifically, the optimal decisions under centralized and decentralized decision-making are compared, and it is found that centralized decision-making is more profitable. Based on this work, we created a cost-sharing and revenue-sharing combination contract. This study demonstrates that this contract effectively coordinates the supply chain and makes both parties achieve Pareto optimization when the parameters meet certain conditions. Finally, the feasibility and validity of the contract are presented through a numerical example.
In a wireless sensor network (WSN) setting, this paper presents a distributed decision-making framework and illustrates its application in an online structural health monitoring (SHM) system. The objective is to recover a damage severity vector, which identifies, localizes, and quantifies damages in a structure, via distributive and collaborative decision-making among wireless sensors. Observing the fact that damages are generally scarce in a structure, this paper develops a nonlinear 0-norm minimization formulation to recover the sparse damage severity vector, then relaxes it to a linear and distributively tractable one. An optimal algorithm based on the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) and a heuristic distributed linear programming (DLP) algorithm are proposed to estimate the damage severity vector distributively. By limiting sensors to exchange information among neighboring sensors, the distributed decision-making algorithms reduce communication costs, thus alleviate the channel interference and prolong the network lifetime. Simulation results in monitoring a steel frame structure prove the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.
Mobile operators in saturated markets increasingly favor mobile network sharing (MNS) over facility-based competition. Previous research examining MNS primarily focused on its positive effects, while the negative effects were largely overlooked. This study proposes a decision-making model using an analytic hierarchy process technique to evaluate decision-making criteria among various types of MNS policies. The decision-making model was applied to Wireless Broadband services in Korea to determine the relative importance of both positive and negative evaluation criteria and preference among multiple types of MNS policies. Positive evaluation criteria (that is, efficiency) were far greater in importance than negative evaluation criteria (that is, competition harm). The preference for adopting MNS among five alternative approaches was also revealed. The study findings offer immediate policy insights in Korea and provide a decision-making framework for policy makers in other countries to utilize.

Construction management requires decision-making skills. Main approaches to training construction management students are: (1) analyzing sample situations involving decision-making; and (2) teaching logical decision-making procedures. The absence of 'pressure' factors in these approaches has significant impacts on the success of the training. The approaches also lack 'dynamic' effects that help create a spontaneous plan for construction projects where unforeseen changes and interruptions may occur. To minimize the adverse effects of the existing approaches, this paper proposes a framework for developing a web-based training system. The application is delivered as a game involving decision-making on the student's part in response to developments at the job-site, and where one student competes against another in an attempt to simulate a real-world scenario.
This study analyzes the Internet utilization pattern of customer by comprehensively investigating the previous studies on the behavior pattern of customer in terms of Internet business. Based on the analysis, this study develops research framework that supports strategic decision-making for resource allocation in Internet business. Such research framework would be helpful for providing the typology of Internet business model that can be specialized by each industry. As a result of the simulation analysis, it was found that the optimal resource allocation portfolio providing maximum profits to the Internet bookstore involves large-scale investment on delivery service and customer support service which are the key factors for post-purchase customer satisfaction, regardless of the growth pattern or size of Internet bookstore market. Consequently, from the above analysis, the investment ratio of resources for the profit maximization of Internet bookstore was drawn. Conclusively, based on the comprehensive examination of the results, this study provided a framework for dynamic resource allocation decision-making, and proposed a management strategy which allows consumers to shop under more favorable environment, and simultaneously enables the Internet bookstore to accomplish management objectives such as continuous growth and profit maximization.
Purpose - This study primarily aims to represent the current trend of research on CPFR as a promising supply chain collaboration program and proposes a new framework for analyzing any collaboration programs in terms of three key collaborative features. Research design, data, and methodology - This study employs a literature review of selected studies that conduct research on CPFR. CPFR is analyzed based on the proposed framework that characterizes collaboration programs in terms of three key collaborative features. Results - The analysis based on the proposed framework reveals that the current form of CPFR continues to have some collaborative features that are not fully utilized to create an advanced collaboration program. The literature review indicates that most past studies ignore critical issues including the dynamic nature of the multiple-stage supply chain system and negotiation process for collaborative agreement in CPFR implementation. Conclusions - Results indicate that CPFR can become a better supply chain collaboration program by incorporating coordinative cost payment and joint decision making processes. Based on observations on the existing literature of CPFR, this study indicates several important issues to be addressed by future studies.

New Zealand appears to be a water rich country; however there are considerable water allocation issues. Mostly these revolve around balancing environmental concerns with economic development. The largest economic sector is agriculture which currently utilizes around 80% of the allocated water and has considerable potential to increase in size. The resource management framework that New Zealand has developed over the past twenty years revolves around local decision-making and sustainable management principles. As the demands for water have grown there has been growing concern that this framework is inadequate to deal with the issues of declining water quantity and quality through agricultural intensification. In Canterbury, the region with the highest water allocation and demand, a new approach is being trialed. The Canterbury Water Management Strategy (CWMS) recognizes the need for: ecological restoration for past damage; infrastructure development for increased irrigation; and the need to link infrastructure with more efficient use of water by both existing and new water users. These three elements are recognized as having equal value. The CWMS builds on the local decision-making concept but is deliberately aimed at consensus building in order to remove expensive and adversarial resource management hearings. It is practical enough to recognize that economic development is needed but that it need not proceed in conflict with the environment, but rather can be a means towards environmental improvement.

In recent years, a cloud environment with the ability to detect illegal behaviours along with a secured data storage capability is much needed. This study presents a cloud storage framework, wherein a 128-bit encryption key has been generated by combining deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) cryptography and the Hill Cipher algorithm to make the framework unbreakable and ensure a better and secured distributed cloud storage environment. Moreover, the study proposes a DNA-based encryption technique, followed by a 256-bit secure socket layer (SSL) to secure data storage. The 256-bit SSL provides secured connections during data transmission. The data herein are classified based on different qualitative security parameters obtained using a specialized fuzzy-based classification technique. The model also has an additional advantage of being able to decide on selecting suitable storage servers from an existing pool of storage servers. A fuzzy-based technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) model has been employed for this, which can decide on the set of suitable storage servers on which the data must be stored and results in a reduction in execution time by keeping up the level of security to an improved grade.
The emergence of ubiquitous computing environment will change the service architecture of business information systems such as Decision Support System(DSS), which will be a new application. Recent mobile DSSs allow the decision makers to be benefited from web and mobile technology. However, they seldom refer to context data, which are useful for proactive decision support. Meanwhile, ubiquitous applications so far provide restricted personalization service using context and preference of the user, that is, they do not fully make use of decision making capabilities. Hence, this paper aims to describe how the decision making capability and context-aware computing are jointly used to establish ubiquitous applications. To do so, an amended DSS paradigm: CKDDM(Context-Knowledge-Dialogue-Data-Model) is proposed in this paper. What will be considered for the future decision support systems when we regard ubiquitous computing technology as an inevitable impact that enforces the change of the way of making decisions are described. Under the CKDDM paradigm, a framework of ubiquitous decision support systems(ubiDSS) is addressed with the description of the subsystems within. To show the feasibility of ubiDSS, a prototype system, CAMA-myOpt(Context-Aware Multi Agent System-My Optimization) has been implemented as an illustrative example system.
