  • This paper presents a comprehensive study result on reducing commutation torque ripples generated in brushless dc motor drives with only a single dc-link current sensor provided. In brushless dc motor drives with only a single current sensor, the commutation torque ripple suppression that is practically effective in low speed as well as high speed regions has not been reported. A proposed commutation compensation technique based on deadbeat dc-link current controller takes a closed loop control scheme and a parameter insensitive property. The proposed control method is verified through simulations and experiments.

  • This paper presents a method to reduce commutation torque ripples occurred during commutation in brushless do motor drives using a single DC-link current sensor. In brushless dc motor drives with a single dc current sensor instead of 3-phase line current sensors, it is noted that dc-link current sensor cannot give any information corresponding to the motor currents during line current commutation intervals. A new technique to resolve such a problem is dealt with based on a deadbeat current control in which motor armature voltage command is computed from a dc-link current reference, an actual current and counter emf voltage. The simulation results show that the proposed method reduces the torque ripple significantly.

  • A new simple control method for active power filter, which can realize the complete compensation of harmonics is proposed. In the proposed scheme, a model-based digital current control strategy is presented. The proposed control system is designed and implemented in a form referred to as internal model control structure. This method provides a convenient way for parameterizing the controller in term of the nominal system model, including time-delays. As a result, the resulting controller parameters are directly set based on the power circuit parameters, which make tuning of the controllers straightforward task. In the proposed control algorithm, overshoots and oscillations due to the computation time delay is prevented by explicit incorporating of the delay in the controller transfer function. In addition, a new compensating current reference generator employing resonance model implemented by a DSP(Digital Signal Processor) is introduced. Resonance model has an infinite gain at resonant frequency, and it exhibits a band-pass filter. Consequently, the difference between the instantaneous load current and the output of this model is the current reference signal for the harmonic compensation.

  • Discrete space vector modulation (DSVM) is an effective method to improve the steady-state performance of the finite control set predictive control for permanent magnet synchronous motor drive systems. However, it requires complex computations due to the presence of numerous virtual voltage vectors. This paper proposes an improved finite control set model-free predictive control using DSVM to reduce the computational burden. First, model-free deadbeat current control is used to generate the reference voltage vector. Then, based on the principle that the voltage vector closest to the reference voltage vector minimizes the cost function, the optimal voltage vector is obtained in an effective way which avoids evaluation of the cost function. Additionally, in order to implement double-objective control, a two-level decisional cost function is designed to sequentially reduce the stator currents tracking error and the inverter switching frequency. The effectiveness of the proposed control is validated based on experimental tests.

  • A power supply for magnetic-stimulation devices was designed via a control algorithm that involved a start current application based on a resonant converter. In this study, a new power supply for magnetic-stimulation devices was designed by controlling the pulse repetition frequency and pulse width. The power density could be controlled using the start-current-compensation and ZCS (zero-current switching) resonant converter. The results revealed a high-repetition-frequency, high-power magnetic-stimulation device. It was found that the stimulation coil current pulse width and that pulse repetition frequency could be controlled within the range of 200-450 ${\mu}S$ and 200-900 pps, respectively. The magnetic-stimulation device in this study consisted of a stimulation coil device and a power supply system. The maximum power of the stimulation coil from one discharge was 130 W, which was increased to 260 W using an additional reciprocating discharge. The output voltage was kept stable in a sinusoidal waveform regardless of the load fluctuations by forming voltage and current control using a deadbeat controller without increasing the current rating at the starting time. This paper describes this magnetic-stimulation device to which the start current was applied.

  • A novel digital current control strategy for digitally controlled DC-DC switching converters, referred to as Adjacent Cycle Sampling (ACS), is proposed in this paper. For the ACS current control strategy, the available time interval from sampling the current to updating the duty ratio, is approximately one switching cycle. In addition, it is independent of the duty ratio. As a result, the contradiction between the processing speed of the hardware and the transient response speed can be effectively relaxed by using the ACS current control strategy. For digitally controlled buck DC-DC switching converters with trailing-edge modulation, digital current control algorithms with the ACS control strategy are derived for three different control objectives. These objectives are the valley, average, and peak inductor currents. In addition, the sub-harmonic oscillations of the above current control algorithms are analyzed and eliminated by using the digital slope compensation (DSC) method. Experimental results based on a FPGA are given, which verify the theoretical analysis results very well. It can be concluded that the ACS control has a faster transient response speed than the time delay control, and that its requirements for hardware processing speed can be reduced when compared with the deadbeat control. Therefore, it promises to be one of the key technologies for high-frequency DC-DC switching converters.

  • This paper proposes sliding mode state for robust speed control of induction motor. Sliding mode state observer is robust for measurement noise, modeling-error and load disturbance. The pole of sliding mode state observer can be placed at (0,0) in Z-plane for fast response. This method is, namely, deadbeat control. Sliding mode state observer output is discontinuous on a switching hyperplance, that causes harmful effects such as current harmonics and speed oscillation. In this paper, also the reducing method of the chattering of sliding mode state observer output is proposed. The proposed system is digitally implemented with TMS320C31.

  • This paper describes control system design for the DH(dynamic voltage restorer) consisted of a diode rectifier and series inverter applied to 22.9kV distribution system. The DVR control system is consisted of the main two parts. One is a voltage event detector using a neural network and the other is deadbeat controller for the output voltage and current control of the DVR. A simulation model was developed for analyzing performance of the controller and the whole system. The results confirm that the DVR can restore load voltage under the fault of the distribution system.
