  • Oxy-fuel combustion is considered as a promising greenhouse gas reduction technology in power plant. In this study, the behaviors of NO and $SO_2$ were investigated under the condition that in-furnace $deNO_x$ and $deSO_x$ methods are applied in oxy-fuel circulating fluidized bed combustion condition. In addition, the generation trends of $SO_3$, $NH_3$ and $N_2O$ were observed. For the purpose, limestone and urea solution were directly injected into the circulating fluidized bed combustor. The in-furnace $deSO_x$ method using limestone could reduce the $SO_2$ concentration in exhaust gas from ~403 to ~41 ppm. At the same experimental condition, the $SO_3$ concentration in exhaust gas was also reduced from ~3.9 to ~1.4 ppm. This trend is mainly due to the reduction of $SO_2$. The $SO_2$ is the main source of the formation of $SO_3$. The negative effect of $CaCO_3$ in limestone, however, was also appeared that it promotes the NO generation. The NO concentration in exhaust gas reduced to ~26 - 34 ppm by appling selective non-catalytic reduction method using urea solution. The $NH_3$ concentration in exhaust gas was appeared up to ~1.8 ppm during injection of urea solution. At the same time, the $N_2O$ generation also increased with increase of urea solution injection. It seems that the HNCO generated from pyrolysis of urea converted into $N_2O$ in combustion atmosphere. From the results in this study, the generation of other pollutants should be checked as the in-furnace $deNO_x$ and $deSO_x$ methods are applied.

  • The ascomycete fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides infects a wide range of plant hosts and causes enormous economic losses in the world. The transcription factors (TFs) play an important role in development and pathogenicity of many organisms. In this study, we found that the C2H2 TF CgCrzA is localized in both cytoplasm and nucleus under standard condition, and it translocated from cytoplasm to nucleus in a calcineurin-dependent manner. Moreover, the ΔCgCrzA was hypersensitive to cell wall perturbing agents and showed severe cell wall integrity defects. Deletion of the CgCRZA inhibited the development of invasive structures and lost pathogenicity to plant hosts. Our results suggested that calcineurin-responsive TF CgCrzA was not only involved in regulating cell wall integrity, but also in morphogenesis and virulence in C. gloeosporioides.

  • Quasi-equilibrium profiles are analyzed through galvanostatic intermittent titration technique (GITT) and potentiostatic intermittent titration technique (PITT) to study the charge/discharge mechanism in multicomponent olivine structure ($LiMn_{1/3}Fe_{1/3}Co_{1/3}PO_4$). From GITT data, the degree of polarization is evaluated for the three regions corresponding to the redox couples of $Mn^{2+}/Mn^{3+}$, $Fe^{2+}/Fe^{3+}$ and $Co^{2+}/Co^{3+}$. From PITT data, the current vs. time responses are examined in each titration step to find out the mode of lithium de-intercalation/intercalation process. Furthermore, lithium diffusivities at specific compositions (x in $Li_xMn_{1/3}Fe_{1/3}Co_{1/3}PO_4$) are also calculated. Finally, total capacity ($Q^{total}$) and diffusional capacity ($Q^{diff}$) are obtained for some selected voltage steps. The entire study consistently confirms that the charge/discharge mechanism of multicomponent olivine cathode is associated with a one-phase reaction rather than a biphasic reaction.

  • The coronavirus pandemic, known as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), is an infectious respiratory disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), a novel coronavirus first identified in patients from Wuhan, China. Since December 2019, SARS-CoV-2 has spread swiftly around the world, infected more than 25 million people, and caused more than 800,000 deaths in 188 countries. Chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) appear to be risk factors for COVID-19, however, their prevalence remains controversial. In fact, studies in China reported lower rates of chronic respiratory conditions in patients with COVID-19 than in the general population, while the trend is reversed in the United States and Europe. Although the underlying molecular mechanisms of a possible interaction between COVID-19 and chronic respiratory diseases remain unknown, some observations can help to elucidate them. Indeed, physiological changes, immune response, or medications used against SARS-CoV-2 may have a greater impact on patients with chronic respiratory conditions already debilitated by chronic inflammation, dyspnea, and the use of immunosuppressant drugs like corticosteroids. In this review, we discuss importance and the impact of COVID-19 on asthma and COPD patients, the possible available treatments, and patient management during the pandemic.

  • Two known species of the family Comesomatidae Filipjev, 1918 were collected from marine sediments of the sublittoral zone in the East Sea, Korea and described and illustrated. Dorylaimopsis variabilis Muthumbi, Soetaert and Vincx, 1997, which was originally described from the Kenyan coast in the Indian Ocean, is recorded from the East Sea, Korea for the first time; there are only slight differences in amphidial fovea turns, body length, body width and relative length of tail. Setosabatieria hilarula (De Man, 1922), Platt, 1985, which was originally described from the North Sea, is recorded from the East Sea, Korea for the first time; there are only slight differences in the number of precloacal supplements, the relative length of tail and the posterior portion of tail. We provide pictorial keys for determination of valid species in the genera Dorylaimopsis Ditlevsen, 1918 and Setosabatieria Platt, 1985. This is the first description of the genus Dorylaimopsis and Setosabatieria from Korean waters.

  • Four species of the free-living nematodes were collected from marine sediments in the sublittoral zone in the East Sea, Korea and were identified, described, and illustrated. Paranticoma tricerviseta Zhang, 2005, originally described from the Bohai Sea, China, is recorded for the first time in the East Sea, Korea; only in body length and thickness (1902-2282 ㎛ compared to 2472-3300 ㎛, 50-62 ㎛ compared to 57-82 ㎛, respectively). Specimens of Parodontophora marina Zhang, 1991, from East Sea, Korea largely agrees with the original description of Zhang (1991) of nematodes from the Bohai Sea, except for differences in body length and thickness (1190-1345 ㎛ compared to 1235-1408 ㎛, 40-44 ㎛ compared to 42-72 ㎛). Terschellingia longicaudata de Man, 1907 is reported for the first time in Korea, but was previously considered a cosmopolitan species of nematodes with a widespread distribution from the North Sea, Belgium to the Exclusive Economic Zone of New Zealand; it differs from the original description in body thickness(30-38 ㎛ vs. 40-62 ㎛). Vasostoma brevispicula Huang & Wu, 2011, originally described from the subtidal muddy sediment in the Yellow Sea, China, is newly reported in Korea; apart from a few minor morphological differences, body length and thickness (2009-2425 ㎛ vs. 2119-2906 ㎛, 41-48 ㎛ vs. 37-58 ㎛). The present study on unrecorded species improves our understanding of nematode species diversity in Korean waters.

  • IAEA, FT-04-020, and ANS 16.1, standard leaching test methods, were evaluated comparatively with their test results. Leaching index of $^{60}$ Co and $^{137}$ Cs by ANS 16.1 method for waste forms of paraffin and cement were above 6.0. Their leaching behavior were depending on the type of matrix and leachant. Leachability of $^{60}$ Co for cement waste form was higher in simulated seawater than do-mineralized water, and was higher in de-mineralized water for paraffin waste form. leachability of $^{60}$ Co was contrary to $^{137}$ Cs. Cumulative fraction leached of $^{60}$ Co was higher in order or IAEA > ANS > FT in a cement waste form.

  • High temperature furnaces such as power plant and incinerator contribute considerable part of NOx generation and face urgent demand of De-NOx system. Reducing agent is injected into the flue gas flow to activate do-NOx system. Almost SCR system adopt vaporized ammonia injection system. Vaporizer, dilution system and additional space are needed to gasify and inject ammonia. Liquid spray injection system can simplify and economize post-treatment system of flue gas. In this study, mixing caused by gas or liquid injection of reducing agent into flue gas duct was investigated experimentally. Carbonated water was used as tracer and simulated agent and mixing of liquid spray in a duct flow was studied. To achieve that, the angle of attack of static mixer is simulated and $CO_2$ concentration is measured.

  • Transport is the central ingredient of all numerical schemes for hyperbolic partial differential equations and in particular for hydrodynamics. Transport has thus been extensively studied in many of its features and for numerous specific applications. In more than one dimension, it is most commonly plagued by a major artifact: mesh imprinting. Though mesh imprinting is generally inevitable, its anisotropy can be modulated and is thus amenable to significant reduction. In the present work we introduce a new definition of stencils by taking into account second nearest neighbors (across cell corners) and call the resulting strategy "co-mesh approach". The modified equation is used to study numerical dissipation and tune enlarged stencils in order to minimize transport anisotropy.
