Daylighting is one of the major elements in architectural design. It also plays an important role in the museums focused on displaying artistic works. Many architects have tried to predict daylighting performances in exhibition spaces during the design process of museums. The aims of this study are to present the design methods using the computer program RADIANCE that is available for the evaluations of daylighting performances in indoor space and to help architects design daylighting systems for better exhibition spaces of museums. For this study, Seoul Museum of Art was chosen and it was evaluated the recommended illuminance and the impacts of direct sunlight under the conditions of overcast sky and clear sky with sun. According to simulation results, they indicated that the alternative toplight system(sawtooth shape) was more effective for daylighting of exhibition spaces than the existing toplight system(pyramid shape) and this study showed a method to evaluate daylighting effects in exhibition spaces with various shapes of toplight systems.
The daylighting affects on the human biological cycles and physiological alterations. Daylighting is also an important element in visual comfort and it sometimes influences the quality of vision. Therefore the absence of natural light during the day brings contradictory result. To solve the problems of natural light lack and provide sufficient daylight in interior spaces, it might be necessary to apply some daylighting systems. One of these systems, light pipe system, which is simple, cheep and easily constructed, is very useful to apply for small buildings. The light pipe is simple means of directing daylighting (diffuse and direct lighting)into interior space. In order to application of light pipe system in Korea, it is necessary to optical data of light pipe system. This study aims to evaluate preliminary experiment of the daylighting environment of light pipe system. Light pipe system, that aspect ratio is 1:2(diameter and length), was installed in a windowless mock-up with $27m^2$. The mock-up model was constructed as a prototype of Korean office surface. Illuminance was measured with a Topcon IM-5 Luxmeter to evaluate the distribution of the illuminance on a floor. The indoor and outdoor illuminance and the internal/external illuminance ratio are compared to discuss with in the graphs. Luminance was measured with Radiant imaging Promertric 1400 that is digital photometer to evaluate the distribution of luminance on interior surface. The contrast of luminance is discussed with table and graphs.
Considerable part of energy consumption is occurred by through buildings. Especially, Lighting energy consumption is most part of one in building. There is very various ways and systems for saving lighting energy. In method, It can be divided Passive Daylighting System and Active Daylighting System. Louver, Screen and use of window's character is representative ways of passive system. Reflection mirror, optical pipe and optical fiber is representative method of active system. Introducing day light on which place can't be introduced day light by typical method is important advantage of active system. Except introducing day lighting methods, efficient lighting management system can save lighting energy. It called lighting automation system. Representatively, Occupancy-related automation and Brightness-related automation system is that. According to occupancy and introducing daylighting level properly operate lamp's intensity of illumination that can save lots of energy. Though Introducing daylighting method, effective lighting system we can get proper intensity of illuminance level and energy saving.

New and innovative technologies for utilizing daylight in buildings have been developed for saving energies and improving visual environments. This study describes the most up-to date information available about the application and evaluation of advanced daylighting systems to enhance daylighting in non-residential buildings from IEA's Task 21. IEA's Task 21 consists on 4 subtasks such as "Performance Evaluation of Daylighting Systems(subtask A)", "Daylighting Responsive Controls(subtask B)", "Daylighting Design Tools(subtask C)" and "Case Studies(subtask D)". For the study, the configurations and characteristics of IEA's advanced daylighting systems are comparatively analyzed. As results, innovative daylighting systems are designed to redirect sunlight or skylight to areas which it is required without glare. These systems use optical devices that initiate reflection or refraction of sunlight and skylight. And they can be designed to actively track the sun or passively control the direction of sunlight and skylight. The comprehensive overview of innovative daylighting systems presented in this study helps designer to understand the advantages of daylighting in building and choose a suitable system for building in the earliest stage of the design process.
CF(Circular Fresnel) POF(Plastic Optical Fiber) daylighting system is a beam daylighting system utilizing solar direct beam radiation. In this study, a CF POF daylighting system has been introduced, developed and applied to KIER test buildings. The CF POF daylighting system consists of three parts: light collector, light transmitter and light diffuser. The light collector includes a Circular Fresnel lens focusing solar direct illuminance by sun tracking. The light transmitter contains the POF cable which has light transmission loss of 4.5% per meter. The light diffuser has about 80% diffuser efficiency. This study aims to evaluate of POF daylighting system performance. At the results of a CFPOF system performance evaluation, the theoretical CFPOF system efficiency was 41.9% and the actual CFPOF system efficiency at the KIER test building was 37.5%. The difference was due partly to the connecting efficiency.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the state-of-the-art daylighting design among LEED(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) multi-family housing cases and to explore the feasibilities for their applications in domestic housing design. Occupants in multi-family houses are reported to consume more electricity power than those in single houses. That may imply the problems of daylighting design in domestic housing design for multi-family houses have better insulation system and less windows and outside walls than single houses. Therefore two systems, daylight delivery system and daylight control system, are scrutinized for daylighting design with LEED cases. The findings show when windows as a daylight delivery system are combined with overhangs, fins, louvers, fenestration materials, speciality fenestration, or interior controls as a daylight control system, the outcome goes with more energy savings and better facade design. Beside those, lightshelves as a daylight delivery system seem to have potentials in domestic multi-family houses with deep plans and less outside walls. Daylighting designs in domestic multi-family houses need to pursue available options more to achieve the integration of energy and aesthetics values.
Daylighting has a very effective role in reducing power consumption and improving indoor environments in office buildings. Previously, it was not under consideration as a major source of renewable energy due to poor reliability in the design. Optical fiber as a transmission medium in the daylighting system demands uniform distribution of light to solve cost, heat, and efficiency issues. Therefore, this study focuses on the uniform distribution of sunlight through the fiber bundle and to the interior of the building. To this end, two efficient approaches for the fiber-based daylighting system are presented. The first approach consists of a parabolic mirror, and the second approach contains a Fresnel lens. Sunlight is captured, guided, and distributed through the concentrator, optical fibers, and lenses, respectively. At the capturing stage, uniform illumination solves the heat problem, which has critical importance in making the system cost-effective by introducing plastic optical fibers. The efficiency of the system is increased by collimated light, which helps to insert maximum light into the optical fibers. Furthermore, we find that the hybrid system of combining sunlight and light emitting diode light gives better illumination levels than that of traditional lighting systems. Simulation and experimental results have shown that the efficiency of the system is better than previous fiber-based daylighting systems.
This thesis introduced an azimuth tracking prismatic daylighting system. The system improved several issues of the previous passive prismatic daylighting system: low efficiency at sunrise and sunset, glare effect and polarized. The system was developed to track the movement of sun with azimuth tracking device, and it has its own power from the attached solar cells. We compared the with previous passive one in terms with system efficiency and daylighting factors(DF).

Daylight is a critical factor in architecture, as it enhances the working efficiency and visual comfort of the people working inside. Even though, low transmittance glazing has been used in the most office buildings in Korea. And it is reduced visual comfort in a indoor environment. So, we need to evaluation of quality for various daylighting systems to improve visual comfort This study aims to evaluate the visual comfort in a indoor environment by different daylighting system. For the purpose, four different daylighting systems-conventional window, conventional window with interior lightshelf, differentiated window, differentiated window with interior lightshelf-were selected and a questionnaire survey with 50 subjects were conducted. The results are as follows. Regardless daylighting systems, a view has an effect on visual comfort. A conventional system and conventional system with lightshelf were highly correlated between comfort and warmth. In case of differentiated window system were correlated between comfort and openness. Also, differentiated window with interior lightshelf were highly correlated between comfort and stability.

Throughout history, daylight has been a primary source of lighting in buildings, supplemented originally with burned fuels and more recently with electrical energy. Before daylight was supplemented or replaced with electric light in the late 19th-century, consideration of good daylight strategies was essential. As we entered the mid-20th-century, electric light supplanted daylight in buildings in many cases. Fortunately, during the last quarter of the 20th-century and early years of this century, architects and designers have recognized the importance and value of introducing natural light into buildings. There are many simple strategies that can enhance daylighting and reduce the need for electric lights. Good quality daylight is always welcome, but remember that the electric lights must be dimmed or shut off in order for daylighting to save energy. We designed and built mirror systems and vertical daylighting devices to improve daylight condition of office buildings in bad condition because urban density is getting higher. This case study aims to analysis the principles and characteristics of mirror systems and vertical daylighting devices and selected the method that can improve constructability. The results of this study are going to use the back data to set-up the design standards. Hereafter we're going to progress the performance test and product the design manual to improve applicability of daylighting systems at design phase.
