CAD for Detection of Brain Tumor Using the Symmetry Contribution From MR Image Applying Unsharp Mask Filter

  • Automatic detection of disease helps medical institutions that are introducing digital images to read images rapidly and accurately, and is thus applicable to lesion diagnosis and treatment. The aim of this study was to apply a symmetry contribution algorithm to unsharp mask filter-applied MR images and propose an analysis technique to automatically recognize brain tumor and edema. We extracted the skull region and drawed outline of the skull in database of images obtained at P University Hospital and detected an axis of symmetry with cerebral characteristics. A symmetry contribution algorithm was then applied to the images around the axis of symmetry to observe intensity changes in pixels and detect disease areas. When we did not use the unsharp mask filter, a brain tumor was detected in 60 of a total of 95 MR images. The disease detection rate for the brain was 63.16%. However, when we used the unsharp mask filter, the tumor was detected in 87 of a total of 95 MR images, with a disease detection rate of 91.58%. When the unsharp mask filter was used in the pre-process stage, the disease detection rate for the brain was higher than when it was not used. We confirmed that unsharp mask filter can be used to rapidly and accurately to read many MR images stored in a database.

  • Increasing number of companies recognize that the understanding of customers and their markets is indispensable for their survival and business success. The companies are rapidly increasing the amount of investments to develop customer databases which is the basis for the database marketing activities. Database marketing is closely related to data mining. Data mining is the non-trivial extraction of implicit, previously unknown and potentially useful knowledge or patterns from large data. Data mining applied to database marketing can make a great contribution to reinforce the company's competitiveness and sustainable competitive advantages. This paper develops the classification model to select the most responsible customers from the customer databases for telemarketing system and evaluates the performance of the developed model using LIFT measure. The model employs the decision tree algorithm, i.e., CHAID which is one of the well-known data mining techniques. This paper also represents the effective database marketing strategy by applying the data mining technique to a credit card company's telemarketing system.

  • As a way of decreasing trial and error that can occur in design, we investigated many kinds of material information and image information. We apprehended structures of material database and image database to suggest one of design method that provides information by connecting both databases. This has potentiality to improve the quality of design. Ultimately, this potentiality makes a great contribution towards strengthening competitiveness in design.

  • Marketing decision support systems rely on an underlying enterprise information infrastructure. In traditional business situations, a limited number of product lines and markets divided into large chunks were adequately served by existing management information systems. With the advent of an increasingly segmented focus on niche markets and individual customers, the demand for market information has grown exponentially. The practical solutions offered by such data warehousing tools as OLAP and data mining directly address this need, allowing organizations to discover new niches. Marketing decision support systems built on these foundations provide organizations with new avenues for creating specifically targeted marketing strategies and promotional campaigns. The contribution of this article lies in introducing a graphical framework for data warehousing applications. Based on prior research, the framework links data warehousing and database marketing. To illustrate the effectiveness of this approach, three case examples of successful database marketing conclude the paper.

Contribution to Improve Database Classification Algorithms for Multi-Database Mining

  • Database classification is an important preprocessing step for the multi-database mining (MDM). In fact, when a multi-branch company needs to explore its distributed data for decision making, it is imperative to classify these multiple databases into similar clusters before analyzing the data. To search for the best classification of a set of n databases, existing algorithms generate from 1 to ($n^2-n$)/2 candidate classifications. Although each candidate classification is included in the next one (i.e., clusters in the current classification are subsets of clusters in the next classification), existing algorithms generate each classification independently, that is, without taking into account the use of clusters from the previous classification. Consequently, existing algorithms are time consuming, especially when the number of candidate classifications increases. To overcome the latter problem, we propose in this paper an efficient approach that represents the problem of classifying the multiple databases as a problem of identifying the connected components of an undirected weighted graph. Theoretical analysis and experiments on public databases confirm the efficiency of our algorithm against existing works and that it overcomes the problem of increase in the execution time.

  • 특허와 같은 기술자산의 경제적 가치를 평가하는 방법론 및 모델은 다방면에서 제시되고 있으나, 데이터베이스 자산의 가치를 객관적으로 평가할 수 있는 구조화된 평가모델이 없으므로, 이에 대한 평가모델 및 수명주기 결정로직의 정립을 통해 DB 자산의 라이센싱, 사업화 이전, 기술금융(담보) 등의 용도에 적용 가능성을 높일 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 DB 자산가치의 평가산출시, 예상 수요고객집단의 크기 및 수요량, 데이터셋의 크기 및 중요도, 데이터베이스가 보유기업의 매출성과에 기여한 정도, 데이터베이스 자산의 수명 등이 입력변수로 적절한지를 분석한다. 대부분의 DB 자산은 계속 업데이트되어 수명이 종료하는 경우가 많지는 않으므로 SW 패키지제품의 내용연한과 같은 5년을 표준수명으로 보고 있으나, 본 연구에서는 DB 자산의 가치가 작아지고 업데이트가 일어나지 않는 경우에 대해, DB 사용빈도에 대한 반감기 개념에 기반하여 수명주기 추정로직 및 DB 자산의 가치평가 모형을 제안한다.

대학도서관의 종합목록 기여 활동 및 이용 정도에 대한 탐사적 연구 (Exploratory Study on the Activity about Utilization and Contribution to the Union Catalog)

  • 종합목록 활성화를 위해서는 서지네트워크 참여 도서관의 공동체 의식과 협력 정신이 가장 중요하겠으나, 기여에 대한 적절한 보상은 참여 동기를 유발시킬 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 해외 종합목록의 기여보상제도를 살펴보고, 우리나라 대학도서관 종합목록 참여 도서관의 기여 활동과 이용 정도를 탐사적으로 분석하였다. 연구의 내용을 구체적으로 기술하면 첫째, 기술통계 분석을 통해 종합목록 참여 도서관의 기여 활동과 이용도에 대한 전반적인 현황을 파악해 보며, 둘째, 피어슨 상관 분석(Pearson Correlation Analysis)을 통해 기여활동과 이용 정도간에 어떠한 상관관계가 존재하는지 분석해 보았다. 셋째, 계층적 군집 분석(Hierarchical Clustering)을 통해 참여 기관을 유형화하여 기여 집단의 규모, 특수 공헌 집단의 존재 여부 등을 분석하였다.

SCI 한국 의학논문 발표실적과 기여도: 1990년-1995년 (The Publication Output and Contribution Rate of SCI Korean Medical Papers: 1990-1995)

  • 본 연구에서는 SCI 학술지에 1990년에서 1995년 사이에 발표된 한국 의학논문의 수를 DIALOG의 SCISearch 데이터베이스를 온라인 검색하여 연도별. 주제분야별, 문헌유형별로 측정하고, SCI 한국 의학논문의 수와 증가추세, 그리고 SCI 기여도와 논문생산성을 분석하였다. 국내 의학논문의 국제화, 세계화 추세를 가늠하여 보기 위하여, 1990년대 전반부의 SCI 한국 의학논문의 발표실적 및 기여도를 1980년대의 데이터에 비교하였다. 또한. 1980년대에 SCI 논문 발표실적 및 SCI 논문들에 의한 인용정도가 의학에 비하여 현저하게 높았던 화학에 비교하여 봄으로써, 1990년대에 들어오면서 의학분야가 상대적으로 많은 발전을 하였는지 검증하여 보았다.

농촌정보 활용성 증대를 위한 통합데이터베이스 설계 (Design of Integrated Database Schema for Improving Usability of Rural Information)

  • As information has been brought to public attention, information storage as well as information usability has been important. Rural information is produced in many areas and institutions. However, it is difficult to use rural information comprehensively. Since formats for management are various, it is difficult to have unified frame. In this research, a schema of database fer integrating rural data is designed to improve usability using dimensional modeling. First of all, rural data are analyzed for designing integrated rural database schema. Rural data used are 'National Agricultural Statistics' and 'Gun annual statistical report'. Analysis shows that there are three considerations; administrative district, time-dependency and classification of data. Considering these three requisite, we designed database schema using dimensional modeling. The reason of using dimensional modeling is to improve usability and effectiveness. If the database was designed using ER modeling, many tables have to be joined every searching time. Separately from integrated rural database schema, user's database schema is designed considering usability. Through user's database, users can modify data or generate new data and save these processes. These make it possible to use generated data repeatedly. We evaluate usability, contribution, and effectiveness of data manipulation on the integrated rural database. We propose an integrated rural database structure improving the accessibility and usability of rural data and information and verified the data model based on a practical example.

  • Today anthropometric data used in the basic designing of own vehicles are foreign data rather than domestic data. The disagreement of the interface caused by this situation is causing of consumer's discomfort or less satisfaction. This study aims at constructing a database to determine the most efficient database for a Korean driver and optimize efficiency for both consumer and producer. The object of this database is for making a system that gathers manages processes and treats vast informations regarding the vehicles occupant package and the human body. The main contribution of this work is collecting basic informations and designing of the procedure.
