Objective: The goal of this study is to investigate whether peripheral axonal regeneration is affected by diabetes in experimental animals. Method: Sprague Dawely rat was injected with 45~50 mg/kg of streptozotocin (STZ) to generate an animal model of diabetes. Three months after STZ injection, sciatic nerve (2 cm length) was removed and the same length of nerve segments from STZ-injected animal or from control animal (CTL) was transplanted into STZ-injected animals (STZ-STZ and STZ-CTL respectively). Similarly, sciatic nerve segments from STZ-injected animal or from control animal were grafted into the control animals (CTL-STZ and CTL-CTL respectively). All animals were sacrificed 2 weeks after transplantation. Sciatic nerve sections were prepared and subjected to immunofluorescence staining analysis. Results: Immunofluorescence staining for NF-200 showed that distal elongation of regenerating axons reached 40~80% of proximal neve in both CTL-STZ and CTL-CTL groups. However, distal elongation in both STZ-STZ and STZ-CTL groups were 20~60% of proximal nerve. Furthermore, measurement of axonal regeneration after immuno-staining with SCG10 showed that the scores of distal elongation relative to proximal nerve were 50~90% in CTL-CTL and CTL-STZ groups and 10-60% in STZ-CTL and STZ-STZ. Conclusions: Our data showed that the levels of axonal regeneration were not affected irrespective of whether they were from STZ- or CTL graft, but were greatly reduced when the nerves were transplanted into the STZ host.
This study was conducted to evaluate spatial distribution pattern and spatial association of crowns (${\geq}10m$ of height) and saplings (<10 m of height and ${\geq}2cm$ of DBH) for four major tree species (Pinus koraiensis, Abies nephrolepis, Acer mono, and Tilia amurensis) in the mixed broadleaved-Korean pine forest of Xiaoxing'an Mts. Vegetation data were collected in the 9 ha permanent sample plot, and the analysis adopted the point pattern analysis method. Main results are as follows; 1) crowns and saplings of major species showed clumped distribution pattern in small scale, became random distribution as the scale was increased. 2) Saplings of Pinus koraiensis performed poor regeneration under the crowns of Pinus koraiensis and Abies nephrolepis; Saplings of Abies nephrolepis did good regeneration under the crowns of Pinus koraiensis and Abies nephrolepis; and crowns of Acer mono and Tilia amurensis had little effect on the distribution of saplings of Pinus koraiensis and Abies nephrolepis. Saplings of Acer mono and Tilia amurensis made good regeneration under the crowns of Pinus koraiensis and Tilia amurensis; and the crowns of Acer mono and Abies nephrolepis had little effect on the distribution of saplings of Acer mono.
The purpose of this study was to measure the thickness of masticatory mucosa in the hard palate as a donor site for mucogingival surgery by using computerized tomography(CT), Thickness measurements were performed in 84 adult patients who took CT on maxilla for implant surgery and 24 standard measurement points were defined in the hard palate according to the gingival margin and mid palatal suture. Radiographic measurements were utilized after calibration for standardization. Data were analyzed to determine the differences in mucosal thickness by gender, age, tooth positions and depth of palatal vault. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Mean thickness of palatal masticatory mucosa was $3.93{\pm}0.6mm$ and females had significantly thinner mean masticatory mucosa($3.76{\pm}0.56mm$) than males($4.04{\pm}0.6mm$)(p<0.05). 2. The thickness of palatal masticatory mucosa increased by aging. 3. Depending on position, masticatory mucosa thickness increased from canine to premeolar, but decreased at the first molar, and increased again in the second molar region(p<0.0001). 4. No significant difference in mean thickness of palatal masticatory mucosa were indentified between low palatal vault group and high palatal vault group(p>0.05). The results suggest that canine and premolar area appears to be the most appropriate donor site for soft tissue grafting procedure. The measurement of the thickness of palatal masticatory mucosa by using computerized tomography can offer useful information clinically but further studies in as-sessing the validity and reliability of the method using computerized tomography is needed.
The forest management paradigm has recently shifted from focusing on commercial production to focusing on ecosystem management. Accordingly, a natural seedling regeneration method that has a naturally high affinity has attracted much attention in recent years. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship among various environmental factors, lower stratum vegetation, and seedling regeneration in Pinus densiflora forests. The survey site comprised 50 sectors divided using the line transect method, and the survey data were divided into those from wet habitat (19 sites) and dry habitat (31 sites), depending on the soil humidity, and were analyzed separately to show the close relationship between soil humidity and natural seedling regeneration. As a result, the dry habitat exhibited high seedling density (157,419 trees/ha), with the main species being Quercus serrata, Zanthoxylum piperitum, Smilax china, and Pueraria lobata, while wet habitat exhibited low seedling density (57,895 trees/ha), with the main species being Stephanandra incisa, Castanea crenata, Lespedeza maximowiczii, Lysimachia barystachys, Aralia elata, and Styrax japonicus. The height and root-collar diameter under wet conditions exhibited faster growth than those under dry conditions. Height growth by the root-collar diameter in dry habitat increased faster than that in wet habitat. It was also confirmed that seedling regeneration in wet habitat exhibited a rapid growth pattern 5 years after germination. These results suggest that the seedlings begin to grow more rapidly after a period of suppression by competition with surrounding plants. Considering an ecosystem or ecological management approach, specific practices, such as bush control and vine clearing in wet habitats, should be more intensively conducted, especially at the beginning of the management operations.
This study was conducted to identify seed inflow characteristics according to harvest typeand to provide basic data for developing a regeneration technology for secondary growth forests in Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora) succession forest formation by natural regeneration. Experimental sites were established by applying seed tree (single and group) and clear-cutting methods (10- 20- 30-m strip and 20- 30- 40-m patch). The seed inflow characteristics of the natural regeneration site were analyzed for 6 years from 2014. Most seeds were flowed to the regeneration stand from October to November. In years with good seed fructification, more than 80% were flowed in October. The average annual seed inflow by harvest type was highest in the seed tree area (296,000 seeds/ha/yr), followed by the 20-m patch clear-cutting area (291,000 seeds/ha/yr) and 10-m strip clear-cutting area (281,000 seeds/ha/yr). The distribution uniformity of seed inflow according to treatment was analyzed in the order of the 20-m strip clear-cutting area (52.2), 20-m patch clear-cutting area (52.9), and 10-m strip clear-cutting area (56.1). As a result, the 10-m strip and 20-m patch clear-cutting areas with relatively small harvest areas showed high seed inflow and distribution uniformity.
A event recorder system stores a train speed and the related information for train operation in real time. Using those information, we can analysis the train operation and the reason of train accident. Currently the event recorder only manipulate the data related the train operation mechanically and electrically. In this paper we propose the event recorder to record the voice communication between the manager in the control center and train operator. By recording the voice communication in the high speed train, the correctness of analysis of train accident can be increased. The system architecture of the event recorder with voice recording is studied and interface between other equipment is proposed. And the software architecture of new event recorder is developed. We study the method of converting analog voice signal into digital data and compressing method. Also the architecture of memory to store the compressed voice data and regeneration of original analog voice are studied.
In immobilized cell reactors, effective cell mass is a very important parameter which must be estimated during operation for control and regeneration of biocatalyst. In this report, the effective cell mass in immobilized cell reactor was studied using a sequential estimation method. An immobilized yeast reactor was operated in batch recycle mode. The states of the immobilized cell reactor could be estimated from the process data using an extended Kalman filter.

This paper presents a 3D shape optimization algorithm for electromagnetic devices using the design sensitivity analysis with finite element method. The structural deformation analysis based on the deformation theory of the elastic body under stress is used for mesh renewing. The design sensitivity and adjoint variable formulae are derived for the 3D finite element method with edge element. The results of sensitivity analysis are used as the input data of the structural analysis to calculate the relocation of the nodal points. This method makes it possible that the new mesh of analysis region can be obtained from the initial mesh without regeneration. The proposed algorithm is applied to the shape optimization of 3D electromagnet pole to net a uniform flux density at the target region.
Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to observe the adaptation experience process of adolescents with hematologic malignancies. Methods: The Grounded Theory Method, developed by Strauss & Corbin (1998), was used in this study. The data were collected through in-depth. interviews with 10 adolescents with cancer. Data collection and analysis occurred concurrently. Theoretical sampling technique was used until the data reached saturation. Results: "A deviated life" was verified as the central phenomenon for adolescents with cancer. The adaptation experience process was divided into 3 steps: "Self-confusion", "Reinterpretation", and "Regeneration of self". Through these 3 steps, the adolescents with hematologic malignancies fitted a new life by self-integration. Conclusion: The results of this study provide a frame for individualized nursing intervention strategies in helping with the psychosocial adaptation of adolescents with hematologic malignancies.
Purpose - With the increasing number of small business owners who reports the cessation of their businesses, the rate of closing the business within the year is increasing as well. The efforts have been made continuously to revitalize the business through the inflow of government or private capital. Maintaining the fast-changing commercial districts with the existing support is difficult, so it is urgent state that needs for commercial district reorganization. The differentiate aspect is that this new measures for small-block-unit commercial modeling can be introduced to promote these aging/deposit private-owned shops politically. Research design, data, and methodology - This study is to develop a sustainable theme shopping rehabilitation method which considers the characteristics of local cities based on the case studies of developed countries' commercial areas to revitalize the central urban areas of local cities. Results - The purpose of this study as stated above is to manage the local commercial area through the program that purchases the empty stores, and the measure to secure the autonomy among stores. Conclusions - The government should concentrate on projects such as vacant store purchase programs, which are omitted from past achievements, and maximize the effect of the project through inter-departmental project packages.
