  • Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) is a genomic aberration. In some cases, LOH can be generated without changing the copy number, which is called copy-neutral LOH (CN-LOH). CN-LOH frequently occurs in various human diseases, including cancer. However, the biological and clinical implications of CN-LOH for human diseases have not been well studied. In this study, we compared the performance of CN-LOH determination using three commonly used tools. For an objective comparison, we analyzed CN-LOH profiles from single-nucleotide polymorphism array data from 10 colon adenocarcinoma patients, which were used as the reference for comparison with the CN-LOHs obtained through whole-exome sequencing (WES) data of the same patients using three different analysis tools (FACETS, Nexus, and Sequenza). The majority of the CN-LOHs identified from the WES data were consistent with the reference data. However, some of the CN-LOHs identified from the WES data were not consistent between the three tools, and the consistency with the reference CN-LOH profile was also different. The Jaccard index of the CN-LOHs using FACETS (0.84 ± 0.29; mean value, 0.73) was significantly higher than that of Nexus (0.55 ± 0.29; mean value, 0.50; p = 0.02) or Sequenza (0 ± 0.41; mean value, 0.34; p = 0.04). FACETS showed the highest area under the curve value. Taken together, of the three CN-LOH analysis tools, FACETS showed the best performance in identifying CN-LOHs from The Cancer Genome Atlas colon adenocarcinoma WES data. Our results will be helpful in exploring the biological or clinical implications of CN-LOH for human diseases.

  • This paper shows accuracy comparison results of reliability estimation methods for one-shot systems with respect to sample sizes. To compare accuracy in reliability estimation methods, quantal-response data, characterizing one-shot systems, were simulated using failure times of LED obtained through the accelerated life test, and then the true reliability over time was evaluated using the failure times. The simulated quantal-response data were used to estimate the true reliability through applying reliability estimation methods in open literature. Accuracy of each reliability estimation method was compared in terms of both SSE (Sum of Squared Error) and MSE (Mean Squared Error), and then estimation trend for each method is found. Feasible bounds which true reliability would exist within were estimated through applying the found trends to quantal-response data set of a real weapon system.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the applications of Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) into MIS area in recent years. Two methodologies, Lisrel and PLS, are adopted for the method comparison. A research model, based upon TAM(Technology Acceptance Model) is used for the analysis of the data set of a previous study. The research model includes six research variables that are composed of twenty-eight question items. 272 data are used for data analyses through Lisrel v.8.72 and Visual PLS v.1.04. This study shows the statistical results of Lisrel are the same to those of PLS. The contribution of this study can be suggested as the followings; (1) A theoretical comparison of two methodologies is shown, (2) A statistical analysis is done at a real-situated data set, and (3) Several implications are suggested.

  • Three categories such as the design of a machine, control and software are necessary in the development of the photomask inspection machine with high resolution. Among them, the design of a software detects inferiority through the comparison of CAD data and real data read by camera from photomask. The block matching algorithm is used since the domain is large and the comparison of data by pixel is accomplished. To correct the error arising from the assembly of a machine, calibration algorithm is used and prefocusing algorithm is suggested to correct the surface of the photomask.

  • The modeling of combustion process is an important part in an engine simulation program. In this study, calculated results using a conventional B-K model and the other model which is called GESIM were compared with experimentally measured data of a three-cylinder spark-ignition engine under wide range of operating conditions. The burn rates calculated from the combustion models were compared with the burn rate calculated from the one-zone heat release analysis that uses measured pressure data as an input data. As a result of the two models' comparison, the GESIM combustion model conformed to be closer to the data acquired from the experiment in wide operating ranges. The GESIM model has been improved by introducing a variable that considers the flame size, the area of flame conacting the piston surface into the model, based on the comparison between the experimental result and the calculated results. The improved combustion model predicts experimental results more precisely than that of GESIM combustion model.

  • In this paper, two estimation methods(least square estimation and maximum likelihood estimation) were compared for Weibull distribution and Type I censoring. Data obtained by Monte Carlo simulation were analyzed using two estimation methods and analysis results were compared by MSE(Mean Squared Error). Comparison results show that maximum likelihood estimator is better for censored data and complete data with more than 30 samples and least square estimator is better for small size complete data(less than and equal to 20 samples).

  • We consider testing equality of mean functions from two samples of functional data. A novel test based on the adaptive Neyman methodology applied to the Hotelling's T-squared statistic is proposed. Under the enlarged null hypothesis that the distributions of the two populations are the same, randomization methods are proposed to find a null distribution which gives accurate significance levels. An extensive simulation study is presented which shows that the proposed test works very well in comparison with several other methods under a variety of alternatives and is one of the best methods for all alternatives, whereas the other methods all show weak power at some alternatives. An application to a real-world data set demonstrates the applicability of the method.

  • In this study, several basic data for road design and GIS data were used for selecting the optimized road alignment database system. The cut and fill volumes were compared with existing manual road design method through the analysis and data application in this database system. We solved and estimated objective, economic, environmental and technical problems caused in road construction comparing existing manual method with the road alignment which was selected in GIS automatically. Also, we performed three dimensional simulation with the existing road design program and simulation of virtual reality through Virtual GIS. This study showed the method in selecting the optimized road alignment through the analysis and comparison of the selected road alignment. The goal of this study is comparison and analysis of definite cut and fill volume and environmental problem after the road construction through analyzing and comparing the social, economic, technical and environmental aspect in the road alignments with various statistic data.

  • The land uses of Korean peninsula are very complicated and high-density. Therefore, the image classification using coarse resolution satellite images may not provide good results for the land cover classification. The purpose of this paper is to compare the classification accuracy of visual interpretation with that of digital image classification of satellite remote sensing data such as 20m SPOT and 30m TM. In this study, hybrid classification was used. Classification accuracy was assessed by comparing each classification result with reference data obtained from KOMPSAT-1 EOC imagery, air photos, and field surveys.

  • We have conducted two runs of interlaboratory comparison on Ag-sheathed Bi-2223 tapes to evaluate the level of measurement techniques for the critical current measurement. Two classes of specimens were prepared for parallel and serial routings and sent to four participating laboratories. The critical currents of specimens were measured at 77 K in zero magnetic field. In the first comparison, we used twenty different Bi-2223 tapes as specimens for comparison and participating laboratories measured the specimens using their own instruments and procedures. As a result, the scattering of data on the first comparison showed -3.0% to +l2.2% for the parallel routing and -0.7% to +l5.1% for the serial routing. Major sources of these variations were attributed to different measurement techniques. Thus, the second comparison of measurement was done on the same specimens under specified measurement conditions, particularly in terms of cooling procedure and sweep rate of the test current. The variations for the second comparison were decreased -3.1% to +3.2% far the parallel routing and -1.8% to +7.7% fur the serial routing.
