  • To clarify the taxonomic position for Astragalus nakaianus and provide correct scientific name for A. mongholicus cultivar in South Korea, we examined external morphological characters and sequence variations from ITS and five cp non-coding DNA regions. Genetic structure was also analyzed for 61 individuals from three populations using nine microsatellite loci. We found no significant difference between the South Korean cultivar and A. mongholicus var. dahuricus when morphology and ITS sequences were considered. Morphologically, A. nakaianus specimens varied somewhat from A. mongholicus var. mongholicus and var. dahuricus in habit, plant height, and lengths of leaf axis and leaflet. Although sequence data from ITS and cp noncoding DNA regions could not distinguished A. nakaianus from A. mongholicus, microsatellite analysis revealed strong structuring between the cultivar and A. nakaianus. Therefore, we conclude that the South Korean A. mongholicus cultivar should be treated as A. mongholicus var. dahuricus and that A. nakaianus should be merged into A. mongholicus as a variety, i.e., A. mongholicus var. nakaianus.

  • Objectives : To develop measurement scales of Internet addiction, and propose a Korean Internet Addiction Index (K-IAI) and classification criteria for Internet addiction from the threshold scores developed. Methods : The identification of the concept of 'Internet addiction' was based on the literature review. To select the scales, an exploratory factor analysis was applied. A construct validation was tested by a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with a structured equation model (SEM). In testing the validity of the classification criteria, ANOVA and non-recursive models with SEM were applied. Results : Out of 1,080 questionnaires distributed, 1,037 were returned,; a response rate of 96%. The Cronbach-$\alpha$ of all items was over 0.75. Using an exploratory factor analysis in the condition of a 6 factor constrain as the study model proposed, 23 of the initial 28 items were identified. In testing the discriminant and convergent validity of the selected 23 scales using CFA with SEM, the Internet addiction model explained about 93% of all variances of the data collected, and all the latent variables significantly explained the designated scales. A K-IAI was proposed using the T-scores of the sum of all factor averages. In the classification of users, the basic concept was a twostandard deviation approach of the K-IAI as the criteria of MMPI. The addiction group had a score ${\geq}70$ in the K-IAI, the pre-addiction group between ${\geq}50$ and <70, and the average user group <50. The Internet use times of the classified groups were statistically different in the ANOVA and multiple comparisons. Conclusions : The K-IAI is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring Internet addiction. Moreover, the taxonomy of the groups was also verified using various methods.

  • Recently, the web 2.0 services which appear by exponential extension of the Internet can be expressed with the changes in the quality of structural evolution and in the quantity of increasing users. The structural base is in user participational architecture, the web 2.0 services such as Blog, UCC, SNS(Social Networking Service), Mash-up, Long tail, etc. play a important role in organization of web, and grouping and searching of user participational data in web 2.0 is broadly used by folksonomy. Folksonomy is a new form that categorizes by tags, not classic taxonomy skill. it is made by user participation. Searching based on tag is now done by a simple text or a tag cloud method. But searching to consider and express the relations among each tags is imperfect yet. Thus, this paper provides the relational searching based on tags using the relational graph of tags. It should improve the trust of the searching and provide the convenience of the searching.

  • Given the explosion of genomic data and expansion of applications such as precision medicine, the importance of efficient genome-database management continues to grow. Traditional compression techniques may be effective in reducing the size of a database, but a new challenge follows in terms of performing operations such as comparison and searches on the compressed database. Based on that many genome databases typically have numerous duplicated or similar sequences, and that the runtime of genome analyses is normally proportional to the number of sequences in a database, we propose a technique that can compress a genome database by eliminating similar entries from the database. Through our experiments, we show that we can remove approximately 84% of sequences with 1% similarity threshold, accelerating the downstream classification tasks by approximately 10 times. We also confirm that our compression method does not significantly affect the accuracy of taxonomy diversity assessments or classification.

  • A moderately halophilic, Gram-positive, spore-forming bacterium was isolated from the roots of Blutaparon portulacoides, a plant found in sandy soil parallel to the beach line in Restinga de Jurubatiba, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The strain, designated $M9^T$, was motile and strictly aerobic with rod-shaped cells. It grew in the absence of NaCl and up to 20% NaCl, and was able to hydrolyze casein and starch. Strain $M9^T$ had a cell-wall peptidoglycan based on L-Orn-D-Asp, the predominant menaquinone present was menaquinone-7 (MK-7), diaminopimelic acid was not found, and anteiso-$C_{15:0}$ and iso-$C_{15:0}$ were the major fatty acids. A phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain $M9^T$ belonged to the genus Halobacillus and exhibited 16S rRNA gene similarity levels of 97.8-99.4% with the type strains of the other nine Halobacillus species. The DNA-DNA relatedness of strain $M9^T$ with H. trueperi, the closest relative as regards 16S rRNA gene similarity, and H. locisalis was 21% and 18%, respectively. Therefore, on the basis of phenotypic, genotypic, and phylogenetic data, strain $M9^T$ (=ATCC BAA-$1217^T$, =CIP $108771^T$, =KCTC $3980^T$) should be placed in the genus Halobacillus as a member of a novel species, for which the name Halobacillus blutaparonensis sp. nov. is proposed.

  • This paper analyzed four large scale studies on the impact of school libraries on students' learning. It identifies how students benefit from their school libraries and how the libraries contribute to the educational goals of the schools. The four studies were the 'National Power' project study, the Scotland study, the Ohio study, and the Delaware study. These studies developed frameworks for evaluating the impact of school libraries on learning, which give insights on how educational objectives and experiences are related with each other and what indicators are available to measure their impact on learning. Basing on Bloom's Taxonomy of educational objectives and Kuhlthau's model of information search process, the educational objectives of the frameworks included cognitive, affective, and psychomotor/physical domain, plus interpersonal domain. The four studies used such research methods as case studies, observations, interviews, focus group discussions, log data analyses in order to identify various learning experiences and impacts.

  • Two Gram-negative, nonmotile, coccobacilli, SW-$3^T$ and SW-$100^T$, were isolated from sea water of the Yellow Sea in Korea. Strains SW-$3^T$ and SW-$100^T$ contained ubiquinone-9 (Q-9) as the predominant respiratory lipoquinone and $C_{18:1}\;{\omega}9c$ and $C_{16:0}$ as the major fatty acids. The DNA G+C contents of strains SW-$3^T$ and SW- $100^T$ were 44.1 mol% and 41.9 mol%, respectively. A neighbor-joining tree based on l6S rRNA gene sequences showed that the two isolates fell within the evolutionary radiation enclosed by the genus Acinetobacter. Strains SW-$3^T$ and SW-$100^T$ exhibited a l6S rRNA gene similarity value of 95.7% and a mean DNA-DNA relatedness level of 9.2%. Strain SW-$3^T$ exhibited l6S rRNA gene sequence similarity levels of 93.5-96.9% to the validly described Acinetobacter species and fifteen Acinetobacter genomic species. Strain SW-$100^T$ exhibited l6S rRNA gene sequence similarity levels of less than 97.0% to the other Acinetobacter species except Acinetobacter towneri DSM $14962^T$ (98.0% similarity). Strains SW-$3^T$ and SW-$100^T$ exhibited mean levels of DNA-DNA relatedness of 7.3-l6.7% to the type strains of some phylogenetically related Acinetobacter species. On the basis of phenotypic, phylogenetic, and genetic data, strains SW-$3^T$ and SW-$100^T$ were classified in the genus Acinetobacter as two distinct novel species, for which the names Acinetobacter marinus sp. novo (type strain SW-$3^T$=KCTC $12259^T$=DSM $16312^T$) and Acinetobacter seohaensis sp. novo (type strain SW-$100^T$=KCTC $12260^T$=DSM $16313^T$) are proposed, respectively.

  • Recently XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is becoming the standard for exchanging the documents on the web. And as the amount of information is increasing because of the development of the technique in the Internet, semantic web is becoming to appear for more exact result of information retrieval than the existing one on the web. Ontology which is the basis of the semantic web provides the basic knowledge system to express a particular knowledge. So it can show the exact result of the information retrieval. Ontology defines the particular concepts and the relationships between the concepts about specific domain and it has the hierarchy similar to the taxonomy. In this paper, we propose the generation of semi-automatic ontology based on XML documents that are interesting to many researchers as the means of knowledge expression. To construct the ontology in a particular domain, we suggest the algorithm to determine the domain. So we determined that the domain of ontology is to extract the information of movie on the web. And we used the generalized association rules, one of data mining methods, to generate the ontology, using the tag and contents of XML documents. And XTM (XML Topic Maps), ISO Standard, is used to construct the ontology as an ontology language. The advantage of this method is that because we construct the ontology based on the terms frequently used documents related in the domain, it is useful to query and retrieve the related domain.
