  • This study was initiated to inquire as to why Wal-Mart failed in the Korean market. For multi-national corporations, environmental differences such as cultural and social differences among countries require business strategies to vary country by country. In Korea, Confucian Ethics are penetrated in every aspect of people's lives. An important aspect of Confucian Ethics is the role and responsibility of women in society. Considering this, businesses need to understand Korean women's preferences as consumers and develop business strategies accordingly. This study emphasizes that IS strategy is one component of the business strategy and, as such, must be rooted in business issues. Understanding that IS strategy should fit to national contexts, this study investigates the underlying process in which IT-based strategic capability is developed according to national context to gain competitive advantages.

  • This study was to identify the factors of ethical values in nursing students. The survey was conducted in two nursing colleges (n=180) using self-reported questionnaire. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analyses using SPSS/WIN 21 software. Influencing factors of ethical values were empathy(t=3.436, p=.001), teaching method except lecture(t=3.037, p=.003), and curriculum track at high school(t=2.309, p=.022). The model was statistically significant explaining 16.2% of the variance (F=11.185, p<.001). This study suggests that strategies for increasing nursing students' ethical values include reinforcing empathy, utilizing various type of teaching method except lecture in nursing ethics class, and allowing high school students applying to college of nursing regardless of their curriculum track.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to review, analyze, and learn from the most recent cases of plagiarism and to identify and promote ethical practices in research and publication. Research design, data, and methodology - This is a case study, an analytical approach, which focuses on analyzing the most recent cases of plagiarism to identify ethical issues and concerns in journal publication practices. Results - Despite the availability of many software and web-based applications and programs to detect plagiarism, there is no universal or perfect plagiarism detection application available to ease the editorial responsibility. Lack of understanding the concept and ignorance of plagiarism were the main reasons for the cases of plagiarism. Conclusions - Some of the plagiarism cases reveal a lack of knowledge in proper application of in-text citations and references, including quoting, requiting, paraphrasing, and citing sources, etc. Furthermore, the need for recognizing and considering the distorted and falsified primary and secondary research data as plagiarism is essential to enhance ethical practices in journal publication.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the perceptions and attitudes of nurses toward euthanasia. Method: In this descriptive study, data were collected from 485 nurses using a self-report questionnaire. The attitudes toward euthanasia scales were composed of four sub dimensions; quality of life, client's right, respect for life and medical ethics. The data were analyzed with descriptive and parametric statistics using SPSS WIN program. Results: Of the nurses, 84.7% were in agreement with constituting a law for euthanasia and 57.6% accepted passive euthanasia. Further, 80.1% would accept euthanasia for their own end-of-life situation. The most frequent reason for pro euthanasia was pain relief, and for con, respect for lift. The mean attitude score was 54.64 and that of sub dimensions, were 2.81 for quality of life, 3.21 for client's right, 2.87 for respect for life, and 2.84 for medical ethics. The nurses who were positive in their thinking about euthanasia had higher attitude scores. Among general characteristics of the nurses, attitudes scores were significantly different according to religion. Conclusion: Although many nurses had a positive concept of euthanasia, they still have ethical dilemmas in lift-sustaining care. Therefore training programs on moral rights are necessary to provide guidelines for end-of-life care.

  • Purpose: The current study suggests that any errors and other inaccuracies noted in the research process should be appropriately communicated to the editorial offices. This will try to eliminate the mistakes that may undermine the value of the publication. The present research thus focuses on the ethical issues and concerns in the publication. Research design, data and methodology: A content analysis applied for this study is suitable because there exists enormous textual data in the realm of ethical concerns and issues in the publication process. The current study investigated manifest and critical themes regarding ethical concerns and issues for research publication. Results: Researchers should consider ethical principles based on suggestions of this study when carrying out a publication for the work to be acceptable in diverse regions and the journal should be made in account of completeness and ensure that all the relevant factors are considered to promote the research's accuracy. Conclusions: Ethical issues denote considerations and moral elements that should be considered by the authors while making a publication. They include Beneficence, which literacy means, do no harm, respect for confidentiality, and anonymity, which is about respecting the rights and dignity of subjects identified based on personal responsibility.

  • Purpose: This study examines the effect of distribution knowledge sharing on innovation ability using work ethic as a variable that strengthens this effect. Research design, data and methodology: This research was conducted on 283 auditors who work at the Small Public Accounting Firm (SPAF) in Indonesia. The research method used is a verification method with a quantitative approach. The sampling technique used is a non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling type. Furthermore, the data analysis technique used is PLS-SEM. Results: The results of the tests that have been carried out show that distribution knowledge sharing has a significant effect on the auditor's innovation ability. Other test results show that work ethic has a significant effect on innovation ability and work ethic strengthens the effect of distribution knowledge sharing on auditors' innovation ability. Conclusions: Auditors in Indonesia have implemented distribution knowledge sharing activities optimally followed by a maximum work ethic to encourage high innovation abilities that will be able to create new methods and ideas that can be useful for clients. This research is expected to provide distribution knowledge to auditors to be able to improve their abilities, especially in the field of auditing to increase their competence as auditors.

  • As AI has a wide range of influence on human social life, issues of transparency and ethics of AI are emerging. In particular, it is widely known that due to the existence of historical bias in data against ethics or regulatory frameworks for fairness, trained AI models based on such biased data could also impose bias or unfairness against a certain sensitive group (e.g., non-white, women). Demographic disparities due to AI, which refer to socially unacceptable bias that an AI model favors certain groups (e.g., white, men) over other groups (e.g., black, women), have been observed frequently in many applications of AI and many studies have been done recently to develop AI algorithms which remove or alleviate such demographic disparities in trained AI models. In this paper, we consider a problem of using the information in the sensitive variable for fair prediction when using the sensitive variable as a part of input variables is prohibitive by laws or regulations to avoid unfairness. As a way of reflecting the information in the sensitive variable to prediction, we consider a two-stage procedure. First, the sensitive variable is fully included in the learning phase to have a prediction model depending on the sensitive variable, and then an imputed sensitive variable is used in the prediction phase. The aim of this paper is to evaluate this procedure by analyzing several benchmark datasets. We illustrate that using an imputed sensitive variable is helpful to improve prediction accuracies without hampering the degree of fairness much.
