Simultaneous modulation of digital/SCM signal using a single LD for broadcasting in PON based optical access network (PON 기반 광가입자망에서 방송 신호 전송을 위한 단일 LD을 이용한 디지털/SCM 신호 동시 변조기술)

  • By comparing video-overlay method where digital and SCM signal are modulated in different optical source, we experimentally investigated the performance of simultaneous modulation of data and broadcasting signals using a single LD for broadcasting in PON based optical access network. The experimental results show that by increasing the minimum value of injected current for LD modulation above about 1.5 times of threshold current of LD, data and broadcasting signals can modulate without mutual interference. We also proposed and demonstrated the scheme of optical transmitter optimized for simultaneous modulation of data and broadcasting signals where anode and cathode of LD are separately used as signal interface for data and broadcasting signals, respectively.

  • As the T-DMB (Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) has been actively launched, all the service providers are focusing on finding a new business model using a variety of data services as well as video service. The middleware technology for data broadcasting service, which was presented due to such necessity, known as DMB MATE (Mobile Application Terminal Environment), provides a running environment of the applications and APIs so that the various data applications can support high-level functionalities for the interactive data service. In this paper, in order to effectively provide the data service under restricted channel environment of T-DMB, we introduce a service technology and an interactive data broadcasting system using the DMB MATE, specifically proposing a design method of T-DMB MATE receiver capable of the presented DMB MATE service. Finally, the performance of developed system is confirmed through the T-DMB data broadcasting experiment under a variety of conditions.

  • Introduction of digital broadcasting service does not only mean the change of information transmission method but also the change of total broadcasting system. In past day, Television was only received one-sided information from broadcasting station, but digital broadcasting means that digital television becomes the most important means of information transmission by the introduction of new programming, lots of channels, data service, multi communication. In the age of the digital broadcasting, the recording and replay medium's interest is getting higher. The medium is able to record more than 24 hours' digital broadcasting programs without additional tapes. In this paper the recording and replay device using HDD was implemented and device driver based on linux was programmed. It has Intel PXA250 processor and hard disk is used as storage equipment. And transport Stream is saved on hard disk through PXA250's data bus. FIFO is added to solve the different saving speed and FPGA is also added to display the saved data.

  • This paper presents the design and implementation of a multi-mode mobile broadcasting Emergency Warning System (EWS) transmission and reception system which enables the propagation of disaster information using the encoding and transmission, reception and decoding methods specified in diverse mobile broadcasting standards. The implemented system supports global mobile broadcasting standards such as Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB), Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H), Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T), and the Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) digital radio standard. The system consists of two key part: an encoding/transmission part and a reception/decoding part. The multi-mode mobile broadcasting EWS encoding and transmission system generates EWS data according to each broadcasting specification. The generated EWS data is then transmitted through a channel interface which meets the commercial broadcasting equipment specification. The receiver system receives and decodes the EWS data on a single hardware platform and can display the results on screen. Verification and conformity testing has been carried out on the implemented system by transmitting emergency data for each mode in real-time and displaying the received information in text on the receiver display.

HDTV Essential Padding Area in Digital Broadcasting (디지털 방송에서 HDTV 필수 부가영역)

  • HD padding area is essential redundancy in HD broadcasting. It is possible to use this padding area for the purpose of improving DTV broadcasting services. For utilization of this area, The bit of a service data was converted to black and white $8{\times}8$ block image. Converted block images are compressed with active video and are delivered to a receiver as only DC coefficients in a video stream. video quality is not effected by the proposed method, and service data was perfectly recovered in receiver without errors by using block average and threshold. The proposed utilization of HD essential padding area can possibly overcome the limited transmission stream rate with the bandwidth of HD broadcasting. If service data in transport or video stram were transferred using this padding area, it is possible to improve video quality with expanded video stream rate. Additionally, because the proposed methods are based on well-established standards, it is also useful for world-wide HD broadcasting systems such as ATSC, DVB, and IPTV.

  • For recent years, data broadcast technology has been recognized as a very effective data delivery mechanism in mobile computing environment with a large number of cli;ents. Especially, a hybrid broadcast algorithm in real-time environment, which integrates one-way broadcast and on-demand broadcast, has an advantage of adapting the requests of clients to a limited up-link bandwidth and following the change of data access pattern. However, previous hybrid broadcasting algorithms has a problem in the methods to get a grip on the change of data access Pattern. It is caused by the diminution of requests for the data items which are contained in periodic broadcasting schedule because they are already broadcasted. To solve this problem, existing researches may remove data items in periodic broadcasting schedule over a few cycles multiplying cooling factor or find out the requests of data items with extracting them on purpose. Both of them are the artificial methods not considering the property of data. In this paper, we propose a real-time adaptive hybrid broadcasting based on data type(RTAHB-DT) to broadcast considering data property and analysis the performance of our aigorithm through simulation study.

  • We propose a hybrid broadcast scheduling based on a combination of periodic and on-demand data scheduling methods for mobile data broadcasting in convergence networks from communication and broadcasting. We consider an environment in which the forward channel is for data broadcasting and the reverse channel is for sending data requests via cellular phones, WLAN, WiBro, etc. Collecting statistics of requests from clients, the server partitions the data items into hot-item and cold-item sets. Hot items are sent based on a push-based scheduling. An on-demand scheduling method is applied to cold items. Performance evaluation from simulations shows that our proposed scheduling algorithm yields small response time with high successful response ratio.

  • In this paper, we propose a prototype system of digital data broadcasting system based on the ATSC data broadcasting standard. This prototype system uses data piping as a mechanism for delivery of arbitrary user-defined data inserted directly into the payload part of the MPEG-2 Transport Stream packets. This data type includes URL or HTML content. After the contents are inserted into the MPEG-2 Transport Stream, they can be delivered through the broadcasting to the DTV set-top receiver. The 75 packets received in real-time during the TV broadcast are used to start display or switch content. This prototype system describes how to achieve common design goals and integrating digital TV and web pages based on the ATSC data broadcasting standard. The prototype system can be used to display digital data contents - HTML, images-on existing TV or digital TV set-tops.

  • In this paper, we describe a new 1/4 rate robust modulation techniques for Enhanced-x VSB system which is fully backward compatible with ATSC 8-VSB standard. 1/4 rate mode Enhanced-xVSB system provides broadcasters with a wide choice of trade-offs of data rate vs amount of robustness of enhanced data for pedestrian/mobile services. Lab test results of proposed Enhanced-xVSB 1/4 rate mode robust stream are a significantly improved multipath as well as AWGN reception performance for Enhanced-xVSB receiver. We suggest an Enhanced-xVSB terrestrial broadcasting system for ATSC HDTV and pedestrian/portable TV simultaneous broadcasting service providing.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify trends in T commerce and further propose ways to improve customer data-based services and development models for changes in broadcasting screens with the expansion of IPTV subscribers. Implementing a customized shopping model like mobile through TV media and improving customer satisfaction will reduce customer departures and provide a more convenient shopping environment through large screens. We would like to learn about the current status and problems of T commerce broadcasting and explain some technically validated models (channel-in-channel, AI speaker) and talk about improvement of legal (broadcasting and Internet multimedia business law) constraints.
