  • Lower Ordovician (Upper Tremadoc) graptolites were found for the first time at the two sections of the Mungok Formation in Danyang area: the Seokgyori and Daejeonri sections. The graptolites from these sections comprise two species of two genera: Adelograptus brevibrachiatus and Psigraptus jacksoni. The graptolite faunas of the sections in the area show simple composition relative to Yeongwol area; they appear to be correlated to: (1) the Adelograptus cf tenellus Zone of Yeongwol area, (2) the Adelograptus cf. tenellus Zone of Yukon, Canada, (3) the Psigraptus Zone of Tasmania, Australia, and (4) the Psigraptus jacksoni Zone of Jilin, China. The age of graptolite beds of the Mungok Formation at Danyang appears to be early Upper Tremadoc of the Lower Ordovician.

  • This study was conducted to develop an effective production of callus induction and plant regeneration system for garlic transformation. The best callus production occurred on in vitro root segment initially cultured on MS medium with 1.0 mg/L 2,4-D and 0.2 mg/L IAA in both ‘Danyang' and ‘Euseong'. The frequency of callus formation were 81.2% ‘Danyang' and 76.1% ‘Euseong'. Eight weeks after callus induction, callus lines were transferred to regeneration medium during 7 weeks. The best shoot regeneration medium was MS supplemented with 5 mg/L Kinetin and 1 mg/L NAA for ‘Danyang' and MS supplemented with 10 mg/L BAP for ‘Euseong'. The frequency of shoot regeneration were 51.5% ‘Danyang' and 56.6% ‘Euseong' The plantlets were acclimatized and transferred to the greenhouse with almost survival. This in vitro regeneration system should be useful for garlic transformation.

  • In-situ survey and laboratory rock test were carried out for rating rock mass around the tunnel that some failures had been occurred in Danyang limestone quarry. For rating rock mass, several methods such as RMR, Q-system, rock strength etc. were applied. The stability analysis on tunnel was evaluated by numerical method FLAC. And The block theory using streographic projection was also applied for stability analysis. The 3-4 major discontinuity sets are distributed in rock mass around tunnel.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of planting dates using garlic bulbils for production of seed garlic. The planting dates were examined using 0.2 g bulbils of 'Namdo' or 'Danyang'. For the planting dates study conducted in the middle regions, the bulbils of 'Danyang' planted in autumn produced bulb weight ranging from 3.1 to 3.5 g and percentage of harvest ranged from 61 to 71. The bulbils of 'Danyang' planted in spring produced bulb weight ranging from 1.8 to 2.8 g and percentage of harvest ranged from 53 to 60. The most desirable planting date was in the early October for the middle regions. For the planting dates study conducted in the southern regions, the bulbils of 'Namdo' planted in autumn produced bulb weight ranging from 1.8 to 3.0 g and percentage of harvest ranged from 74 to 89. The bulbils of 'Danyang' planted in spring produced bulb weight ranging from 0.6 to 1.0 g and percentage of harvest ranged from 47 to 56. The most desirable planting date was in the mid and late September for the southern regions.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data regarding the perceptions of medicated diets among chefs. The subjects were 22 exemplary restaurant chefs in the Danyang area. The results showed that 40.9% of the chefs regarded the taste of medicated diets as good. Conversely, 22.7% of the subjects answered that they didn't know about medicated diets. Mass media and education from relevant institutions were the means of acquiring information about medicated diets. The chefs recognized that varieties of sauce could make medicated diets popular because of special flavor. Female chefs were generally more familiar with herbs than male chefs. Overall, the chefs were not familiar with Menthae Herba, Atractylodis Japonica, Adenophorae radix, Caryophylli Flos, or Carthami Flos. However, they were familiar with Glycyrrhizae Radix, Cassiae Semen, Cinnamomi Cortex, Polygonati Rhizoma, Mume Fructus, and Ginseng Radix, even though they didn't like the tastes pertaining to medicated diets. Ginseng Radix was the most well-known oriental herb, and Mume Fructus and Rubi Fructus were also popular. The most popular cooking methods for medicated diets were, in order, boiling rice, roasting items, and preparing the herbs as beverages.

  • An endemic Korean bitterling, Acheilognathus signifer, known as using freshwater mussels for its spawning activity, much prefers Lamprotula leai in Dalcheon stream (Goesan population) and Unio douglasiae sinuolatus in Gadaecheon (Danyang population) stream, Korea. The spawning pattern between two mussels and one bitterling was carried out in two populations from April to June, 2011 and 2013. L. leai in the Goesan population was bigger shell length and have more eggs, larvae or both with A. signifer than those of U. d. sinuolatus in the Danyang population. Also, A. signifer in the Goesan population appeared to have a longer ovipositor and lay ripen eggs more than those of A. signifer in the Danyang population. Glochidium, a larval stage, of some L. leai in the Goesan population was incubated in all the demibranch, whereas for all of U. d. sinuolatus in the Danyang population was found in the outer demibranch only. For L. leai in the Goesan population, the eggs, larvae or both of A. signifer were much more in the non-breeding mussels (giving no glochidium) than the breeding mussels having the glochidium. For U. d. sinuolatus in the Danyang population, in contrast, the non-breeding mussels have fewer eggs, larvae or both less than the breeding one.

  • The purpose of this study is to expand the use of coal ash and coal slag in thermal power plants. In addition, controlled low strength materials was developed to prevent mine settlement. Bottom ash and KR slag are mixed at ratio of 7:3 to expand the use of industrial by-products through carbonate reaction and inhibit the exudation of heavy metals. In order to efficiently fill the abandon mine, workability and physical properties were evaluated according to flow. As a result of elution of harmful substance experiment, it was confirmed that the carbonation reaction inhibited the elution of heavy metals. It was confirmed that the difference in water ratio was the difference in specific surface area of the controlled low strength materials. It was confirmed that the working efficiency is excellent when the flowability is 300mm compared to 260mm. compressive strength measurement result was relatively high at 260mm compared to 300mm because the number of pores due to decrease of water ratio was small.
