  • A simulation program has been developed to evaluate operator seat vibration for earth-moving machinery and decide whether a seat meets the requirements imposed by ISO 7096. An operator seat is assumed as a linear system composed of a mass, a spring, and a damper mounted on a platform. The program evaluates the transmissibility at resonance, and the SEAT factors for a light person and a heavy person. The developed program can be utilized effectively in designing a new operator seat.

승용차 시트용 폼의 진동전달율 최소화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Minimization of Transmissibility of Seat Foam in Passenger Vehicles)

  • One of the most important factor for the comfort of the passenger vehicles is the minimization of the compressible transmissibility during the running vehicles. Seat foam materials of I2 series(index 95 and the contents of isocyanate TDI was changed in percentages 75, 70, 65, 60, 50, 40) and DI series(density 50kg/$\textrm{m}^3$, index was changed 100, 95, 90) showed the significant differences in their transmissibility depended upon their chemical constitution such as index and contents of isocyanate TDI. The minimum trasmissibility of seat foam materials of I2 series was found from the materials with the contents of 65% isocyanate TDI and the index 95 at the frequency 4.79~5.31Hz. Also the minimum transmissibility of seat foam materials of DI series was found from the materials with the index 90 and the density of 50kg/$\textrm{m}^3$ at the frequency of 4.79~5.31Hz.

Biomechanical Analysis of Human Balance Control

  • A single-inverted-pendulum model is presented to simulate and predict the passive response of human balance control. This simplified biomechanical model was comprised of a torsional spring and damper, and a lump mass. An estimation of frequency response function was conducted to parameterize the complexity. The frequency domain identification method is used to identify the parameters of the model. The equivalent viscoelastic parameters of standing body were obtained and there was good conformity between the simulation and experimental result.

Stochastic space vibration analysis of a train-bridge coupling system

  • The Pseudo-Excitation Method (PEM) is applied to study the stochastic space vibration responses of train-bridge coupling system. Each vehicle is modeled as a four-wheel mass-spring-damper system with two layers of suspension system possessing 15 degrees-of- freedom. The bridge is modeled as a spatial beam element, and the track irregularity is assumed to be a uniform random process. The motion equations of the vehicle system are established based on the d'Alembertian principle, and the motion equations of the bridge system are established based on the Hamilton variational principle. Separate iteration is applied in the solution of equations. Comparisons with the Monte Carlo simulations show the effectiveness and satisfactory accuracy of the proposed method. The PSD of the 3-span simply-supported girder bridge responses, vehicle responses and wheel/rail forces are obtained. Based on the $3{\sigma}$ rule for Gaussian stochastic processes, the maximum responses of the coupling system are suggested.

  • In this paper a self-tuning gain-scheduled skyhook control for semi-active suspension systems is investigated. The dynamic characteristics of a continuously variable damper including electro-hydraulic pressure control valves is analyzed. A 2-d.o.f. time-varying quarter-car model that permits variations in sprung mass and suspension spring coefficient is considered. The self-tuning skyhook control algorithm proposed in this paper requires only the measurement of body acceleration. The absolute velocity of the sprung mass and the relative velocity of the suspension deflection are estimated by using integral filters.   • In this study, we tried to investigate the impedance characteristic of human arm in a cooperative task. Human arm was moved in a desired trajectory. The motion was actuated by a 1 degree-of-freedom robot system. As the muscle is mechanically analogous to a spring-damper system, a second-order equation was considered as the model for arm dynamics. In the model, inertia, stiffness and damping factor were considered. The impedance parameter was estimated from the position and torque data obtained from the experiment and based on the "Estimation of Parametric Model".   • Jeha Ryu Department of Mechatronics, Kwangju Institute of Science and Technology This paper presents an application of a robust adaptive control strategy to HexaSlide type six degrees-of-freedom parallel manipulators. The HexaSlide type parallel manipulators are characterized as an architecture with constant link lengths that are attached to moving sliders on the ground and to a mobile platform. The proposed control law is developed based on a simplified second order system dynamic equation in joint space with uncertain mass, damper, spring, and Coulomb friction terms. These uncertain parameters are updated by an adaptation law that is derived by Lyapunov stability theorem. A robust adaptive control law by using the boundary layer is designed for the purpose of compensating for the neglected dynamic effects of the mobile platform and the six moving links that are modeled as a disturbance term. Experimental results show good and fast tracking performance.

  • A piezo-actuator is an important component for an E-beam lithography system. But it is very difficult to model its characteristics due to nonlinearities such as hysteresis and creep, to the input voltage. In this paper, one-axis micro stage with a piezo-actuator is modeled including the nonlinear properties. Hysteresis and creep are modeled as the first order differential equation and a time-dependent logarithmic function, respectively. The dynamic motion of the stage is also modeled as a mass-spring-damper system and the parameters are determined by utilizing the system identification technique. The simulation tool for a micro stage is constructed using the commercial software and its simulation results are compared with the experimental data.

  • The sway motion of the spreader during and after movement causes an efficiency problem of position control in unmaned gantry crane. The objective of this research is to investigate the phenomenon that the load is taken by the sway motion of crane. For deriving the dynamic equations related to the swing motion of crane, we introduced a conception of spring and damper in the upper part of the crane. During the crane and trolley is driving along the velocity profile, the swing motion of the spreader and crane will be simulated. The simulation result of the equation of motion using the Rung-Kutta method is presented in this paper. And we will show an effect of the swing of the crane in this research.

  • Sloshing of fuel in a liquid propellant tank is an important part of the dynamic and the stability analysis of the rocket. Baffles are installed in a propellant tank to reduce the instability due to sloshing. Multi degree of spring-mass-damper model was used to model sloshing of fuel in an axisymmetric tank. The natural frequencies and damping ratios are estimated. In order to verify the estimated natural frequencies and damping ratios, tests are performed for the real propellant tank of KSR-III with single ring baffle. Results of fuel sloshing analysis are compared with those of tests.
