  • This study was to investigate the effect of manufacturing an avocado oil-added formulation and applying it to damaged hair. The experimental materials were prepared by adding avocado oil contents of 0 g, 3 g, 6 g, and 9 g to the perm base agent. It was applied to 4 damaged hair samples with the prepared formulation for comparative analysis. Tensile strength, absorbance using methylene blue, and gloss were measured as measurement methods for the effect on damaged hair. Statistical analysis was performed for the reliability of the research results. As a result of the tensile strength measurement, it was found that the tensile strength of the sample applied with the formulation containing 6 g and 9 g to the sample increased, affecting damaged hair. As a result of the absorbance analysis using methylene blue, it was found that the absorbance of all samples applied by adding oil decreased, affecting damaged hair. The gloss measurement result was found to affect damaged hair when 6 g and 9 g were added. The conclusion is that avocado oil affects damaged hair, so it is thought that it will have an effect of improving hair.

  • When a concrete member is damaged by fire accident, it can lose its strength. And the degradation rate of losing its strength affected by many environmental conditions. But there is few research for equation for strength evaluation of fire-damaged concrete. Besides, it is impossible to destruct structural member from the building for the evaluation. So, I will suggest a new equation for strength evaluation of fire-damaged RC beam using non-destructive test. For this purpose, the researchers are exploring the performance of non-destructive testing methods using Ultrasonic test, Schmidt Hammer test and Coring test against fire damaged concrete specimen.

  • To evaluate an effect of toluene application to skin on the enhancement of liver damage in $CCl_4$-pretreated rats, toluene (35 mg/$cm^2$) was sequentially applied for 5 days to the skin of liver damaged rats with $CCl_4$ (6 times every other day: 0.1 ml/100 g body weight-50% $CCl_4$ in olive oil) On the basis of the functional and morphological findings in rat liver, appling toluene to the skin in liver damaged animals led to the more enhanced liver damage. In addition, by applying toluene to skin of liver damaged rats, the hepatic cytochrome P450 content was somewhat more increased, but the hepatic benzylalcohol dehydrogenase activity was significantly decreased (P<0.001), whereas benzaldehyde dehydrogenase activity was not statistically changed. In conclusion, the toluene application to skin in liver-damaged rat led to enhancement of liver injury that may be due to the accumulation of toluene metabolite in liver.

  • The degree of changes in mechanical properties of fire-damaged reinforced concrete column depends mostly on sectional geometry, duration exposed to fire, and moisture containment. In order to reasonably assess the deterioration of structural capacity of fire-damaged reinforced concrete column, it is necessary to develop a theoretical model predicting column behavior based on nonlinear heat transfer equation in addition to the traditional mechanics. This research focuses on the development of theoretical model to predict moment-curvature relations of fire-damaged reinforced column. The model is used for the assessment of structural capacity of fire-damaged column in terms of moment-curvature relations and PM interaction curves.

  • In this paper an experimental review of condition monitoring method using time domain vibration signals and statically measured wave forms of a multi-components damaged ball bearing is presented first time. Many investigators studied already about vibration characteristics of a single point damaged ball bearing but they did not make efforts to verify vibration phenomena of a multi-components damaged one. Even in case of a tripple components damaged (i.e, outer race, inner race and rolling element) one, the high frequency resonance technique (HERT) and the displacement time domain technique can be also used for its fault detection. According to experimental results undertaken a static displacement measuring method, the defect locations of components can be proposed confidently with simple calculation of the rotating angles of each component.

  • In this work, active control algorithm is adopted to reduce delamination effects of the damaged composite structure and control performance with MFC actuator is numerically evaluated. Finite element model for the damaged composite structure with piezoelectric actuator is established based on improved layerwise theory. In order to achieve high control performance, MFC actuator, which has increased actuating force, is considered as a piezoelectric actuator. Mode shapes and corresponding natural frequencies for the damaged smart composite structure are studied. After design and implementation of active controller, dynamic characteristics of the damaged smart composite structure are investigated.

  • This study is to present a method of flood damaged area detection by the typhoon RUSA (August 31 - September 1, 2002) using Landsat 7 ETM+ and Landsat 5 TM images. Two images of Sept. 29, 2000 and Sept. 11, 2002 (path 115, row 34) were prepared for Gangreung, To identify the damaged areas, firstly, the NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) of each image was computed, secondly, the NDVI values were reclassified as two categories that the negative index values including zero are the one and the positive index values are the other, thirdly the reclassified image before typhoon is subtracted from the reclassified image after typhoon to get DNDVI (Differential NDVI). Some part of urban and agricultural were classified into damaged area due to typhoon RUSA in Gangreung, $18.8km^2$ and $17.7km^2$ respectively.

  • The free vibration of stiffened and damaged coupled shear walls is investigated using the mixed finite element method. The anisotropic damage model is adopted to describe the damage extent of the reinforced concrete shear wall element. The internal energy of a locally damaged shear wall element is derived. Polynomial shape functions established by Kwan are used to present the component of displacements vector on each point within the wall element. The principle of virtual work is employed to deduce the stiffness matrix of a damaged shear wall element. The stiffened system is reinforced by an additional stiffening beam at some level of the structure. This induces additional axial forces, and thus reduces the bending moments in the walls and the lateral deflection, and increases the natural frequencies. The effects of the damage extent and the stiffening beam on the free vibration characteristics of the structure are studied. The optimal location of the stiffening beam for increasing as far as possible the first natural frequency of vibration is presented.

  • In this study, free vibration analyses of symmetric laminated cantilever and simply supported damaged composite beams are investigated by using finite element method (FEM). Free vibration responses of damaged beams are examined using Euler Bernoulli beam and classical lamination theories. A computer code is developed by using MATLAB software to determine the natural frequencies of a damaged beam. The local damage zone is assumed to be on the surface lamina of the beam by broken fibers after impact. The damaged zone is modeled as a unidirectional discontinuous lamina with $0^{\circ}$ orientations in this study. Fiber volume fraction ($v_f$), fiber aspect ratio ($L_f/d_f$), damage length ($L_D$) and its location (${\lambda}/L$), fiber orientation and stacking sequence parameters effects on natural frequencies are investigated. These parameters are affected the natural frequency values significantly.

  • In this paper, we propose an error concealment method to recovre damaged block-based image coding schemes. Channel errors during transmission of image data such as bit errors or cell loss result in damaged image blocks in the reconstructed images. To recover damaged blocks is to estimate them using the correctly received or undamaged neighborhood information. In the proposed method, an overcomplete basis for a large block containing a damaged block at its center is introduced and damaged blocks are recovered by sequentially projecting the known neighborhood information onto the overcomplete basis function. Computer simulations show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional method in subjectie recovery qualities as well as objective ones.
