Loss and damage have become a vital contemporary issue in climate change studies and actions in developing countries. However, studies are scant on this in the fisheries sector around the world. In Bangladesh, there is no study on the loss and damage in fisheries dependent communities. This study assesses economic and non-economic loss and damage to coastal shrimp farms due to cyclone Bulbul in Gabura Union of Shyamnagar Upazila, Satkhira district, using a mixed method approach. Results show that all shrimp farms' dependent communities are affected by cyclone Bulbul to some extent. About 14%, 57%, and 29% of the farms were totally, heavily and moderately damaged due to farm inundation and dyke damage. The estimated mean loss and damage per shrimp farm was worth USD 4,633. Around 31% and 72% of the farms' fencing nets and traps were lost, which was worth USD 333 per farm. There were also loss and damage to other resources such as houses, solar panels, livestock and agricultural crops where the estimated mean loss and damage per household was worth USD 3,170. This study reported that the rich shrimp farmers encountered proportionately more economic loss and damage than their poor counterparts. However, this does not mean that the poor suffered less. The current study found a range of non-economic loss and damage in different aspects of the shrimp farmers' household members such as unbearable mental pain, deterioration of health, physical injuries, disabilities, etc. and access to services (e.g., inadequate food, lack of safe drinking water, lack of medical facilities, disruption of education systems), social infrastructure (e.g., damage of roads and markets) and disturbance of cultural functions. The findings suggest that urgent short- and long-term actions may be taken to save the aquaculture farms and dependent livelihoods from economic and non-economic loss and damage to cyclones in future.
In this study, we quantitatively measure the ion ranges of arsenic with energies ranging from 10 KeV to 100 KeV, implanted at $3^{\circ}$, $9^{\circ}$$15^{\circ}$ the (100) plane, and the damage created during ion implantation. To obtain detailed information of ion range and damage distributions in low energy region where elastic collisions dominate the slowing down process, molecular dynamics computer simulation was performed and compared to the existing results. The effects of implant energy and degree on damage generation are present. The number of vacancy were calculated from the deposited energy using Kinchin-Pease equation. In the energy range 10 keV-100 keV, simulations show that the number of Frenckel pairs produced by As-ion bimbardment is 9 and incident angle dependence of the vacancy was the same but defects were distributed at different depth.

This is the study on fracture life under the interaction of creep and fatigue. It is difficult to explain the interaction of the creep and fatigue with indication of frequency but the dependency of the time should be considered. The formulation of material varieties causing by interaction of creep and fatigue is required in the accumulative damage method. The strain range partition method requires some of modification corresponding to the changes in temperature and load. All of other method also comprehended with above mentioned problems. Generally, in this field, the variety of stress-strain and suitable parameter is required and connective study between the macro and micro results seems to be insufficient. The linear damage rule is acquiring the support generally but it requires modification in the hgigh temperature instruments. The variety of stress effecting on crack and variety of stress on the metallurgical side are considered to be problems in the future days.

Metal matrix composites(MMCs) are rapidly becoming one of the strongest candidates for structural materials for many high temperature application. Among the high temperature environment, thermal shock is known to cause significant degradation in most MMC system. Therefore, the nondestructive evaluation on thermal shock damage behavior of SiC/A16061 composite has been carried out using ultrasonic surface and SH-waves. For this study, Sic fiber reinforced metal matrix composite specimens fabricated by a squeeze casting technique were thermally cycled in the temperature range 25~$400^{\circ}C$ up to 1000 cycles. Three point bend test was conducted to investigate the effect of thermal shock damage on mechanical properties. The relationship between thermal shock damage behavior and the change of ultrasonic velocity and attenuation were discussed by considering SEM observation of fracture surface.
A method is presented to detect and assess the structural damage from changes in natural frequencies using Genetic Algorithm (GA). Using the natural frequencies of the structure, it is possible to formulate the inverse problem in optimization terms and then to utilize a solution procedure employing GA to assess the damages. The technique has been applied to a cantilever beam and a plane frame, each one with different damage scenario to study the efficiency of the developed algorithm. A laboratory tested data has been used to verify the proposed algorithm. The study indicates the potentiality of the developed code to solve a wide range of inverse identification problems in a systematic way. The outcomes show that this method can detect and estimate the amount of damages with satisfactory precision.

Although guided-waves are very efficient for long-range nondestructive damage inspection, it is not easy to extract meaningful pulses of small magnitude out of noisy signals. The ultimate goal of this research is to develop an efficient signal processing technique for the current guided-wave technology. The specific contribution of this investigation towards achieving this goal, a two-stage Gabor pulse-based matching pursuit algorithm is proposed : rough approximations with a set for predetermined parameters characterizing the Gabor pulse and fine adjustments of the parameters by optimization. The parameters estimated from the measured signal are then used to assess not only the location but also the size of a crack existing in a rod. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, the longitudinal wave-based damage detection in rods is considered. To estimate the crack size, Love's theory for the dispersion of longitudinal waves is employed.

This study analyzes flywheel through the analyses of stress, fatigue and vibration. Maximum equivalent stress is 15.271MPa at the mid round shape and maximum deformation is 0.02264mm at the outer teeth. Among the cases of nonuniform fatigue loads, 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load becomes most unstable but 'Sample history' becomes most stable. In case of 'Sample history' with the average stress of -$10^4$MPa and the amplitude stress of 1000 to 2900MPa, the possibility of maximum damage becomes 30%. This stress state can be 20 times greater than the damage possibility of 'SAE bracket history' or 'SAE transmission'. The range of natural frequencies becomes 200 to 820Hz and the values of these deformations are not more than 10mm. The structural result of this study can be effectively utilized with the design of flywheel by investigating prevention and durability against its damage.

Ultrasonic guided wave techniques have been widely used for long range nondestructive detection in tube-like structures. The present paper investigates the ultrasonic linear and nonlinear parameters for evaluating the thermal damage in aluminum pipe. Specimens were subjected to thermal loading. Flexible polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) comb transducers were used to generate and receive the ultrasonic waves. The second harmonic wave generation technique was used to check the material nonlinearity change after different heat loadings. The conventional linear ultrasonic approach based on attenuation was also used to evaluate the thermal damages in specimens. The results show that the proposed experimental setup is viable to assess the thermal damage in an aluminum pipe. The ultrasonic nonlinear parameter is a promising candidate for the prediction of micro-damages in a tube-like structure.

In this study, the repetitive loading-unloading tensile tests with AZ31B magnesium sheet metal have been conducted under various elevated temperatures to check out how the Young's moduli of the sheets evolve during the plastic deformation. The loading-unloading tests have been carried out at every 1% of strain increment. With the tested results, some damage parameters of magnesium sheets based on the Lemaitre's continuum damage theory could be calculated at room temperature, $100^{\circ}C$, $150^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$ and $250^{\circ}C$. It has been shown that the critical damage parameters obtained in all temperature conditions are within the range of 0.12 to 0.18.
The study analyses secondary damage of surrounding facilities from the fire accident by Unloading of LPG Bulk Lorry. Potential risk and extent of damage from jet flame and radiation heat is estimated with PHAST-RISK v6.7 program of DNV. According to above study, supplies can predict the damage range from gas release by Unloading, and be able to respond quickly.
