Fasad (Venesection): An important regimental therapy in Unani System of Medicine

  • Fasad i.e. venesection is an old classical method of treatment in the Unani system of medicine. Fasad is Arabic word which means "to open". In the process, complete evacuation which drains out blood and dominating humours mixed with blood from veins. Fasad is carried out when the kamiyat (quantity) of the blood is excess in the body and patient is either exposed to the risk of developing a disease or has actually developed one. In classical literature of Unani system of medicine, physicians wrote a lot about this procedure. The details of venesection is mentioned in the given paper on the basis of classical literature including history, indications, types, amount of blood to be venesected, time, person, procedure, complications and special focus has been made on the number of vessels to be venesected and their benefits with respected to disease and condition.

  • The analysis involves an adaptive grid that is created under a criterion of element categorization of filling states and locations in the total region at each time step. By using an adaptive grid wherein the elements, finer than those in internal and external regions, are distributed at the surface region through refinement and coarsening procedures, a more efficient analysis of transient fluid flow with free surface is achieved. Using the proposed numerical technique, the collapse of a dam is analyzed. The numerical results agree well with the theoretical solutions as well as with the experimental results. Through comparisons with the numerical results of several cases using different types of grids, the efficiency of the proposed technique is verified.

모래로 축조된 댐 모형의 침투에 관한 연구(I) (A Study of the Seepage through Sand-Constructed Model Dams.)

  • The aim of this thesis, when water permeates dam, is to study the shape of seepage line and seepage quantity. As for the process, various sand model dams of same capacity were constructed in the water tank : they are a central, middle, inclined, up and down stream point of which is paralled, and filter-installed types. And the slope of seepage line and seepage quantity in these various models for experiment were measured, observed data were analyzed, and several formulas which already published were compared and examined. As for the shape of seepage line, the relation between upstream water level and exit: slope of seepage line, near the entrance and exit point, geometrically similar model, and the shape of seepage line filter-installed were examined. As regards to the seepage quantity, several formulas which already published and testing result values were compared and examined, and relation with the slope of seepage line, the seepage quantity, the slope of upstream point, and the upstream water level were mutually studied. Particulary, when horizontal filter was installed, propriety of the existing formulas for effective filter length w as examined, and the relative position of exit point in various. conditions was also studied.

  • An expert system, to assist dam managers for five dams along the Saikawa River, has been developed with a primary objective of achieving swift and accurate reservoir operation decision-makings during floods. The expert system is capable of supporting on decision-makings upon establishment of flood management procedure and release/storage planning. Furthermore, an attempt was made to improve reservoir inflow prediction models for better supporting capability. As a result, accuracy on prediction of inflow up to 7 hours ahead was improved, which is important for flood management of the five dams, using neural network. The neural network inflow prediction models were developed for each types of floods caused by frontal rainfalls, snowmelt and typhoons, after extracting relevant meteorological factors for each.

Electrical Instabilities of Mesoporous Silica Thin Films

  • On the surface of mesoporous silica thin films (MSTF) which were fabricated by sol-gel approach there are existences of water and three different silanol types including chained, germinal and isolated silanol. Their amounts changes as a function of aging time of used sol solution, as confirmed by FT-IR. The adsorbed water generates ionic carriers such as H+ and OH- and passivates the Si dangling bonds at the interface of silicon wafer-MSTF. The ionic carriers can not only transport across the thickness of thin film to enhance the leakage current but also diffuse toward the silicon wafer-MSTF interface to depassivate Si dangling bonds. On the other hand, chained silanols or germinal silanols promote the moisture adsorption of MSTF and tend to form strongly hydrogen bonded systems with adsorbed water molecules resulting in very high dielectric constant. Isolated silanol, on the contrary, affects less on electrical properties of thin film.

A comprehensive study on active Lamb wave-based damage identification for plate-type structures

  • Wear and aging associated damage is a severe problem for safety and maintenance of engineering structures. To acquire structural operational state and provide warning about different types of damage, research on damage identification has gained increasing popularity in recent years. Among various damage identification methods, the Lamb wave-based methods have shown promising suitability and potential for damage identification of plate-type structures. In this paper, a comprehensive study was presented to elaborate four remarkable aspects regarding the Lamb wave-based damage identification method for plate-type structures, including wave velocity, signal denoising, image reconstruction, and sensor layout. Conclusions and path forward were summarized and classified serving as a starting point for research and application in this area.

석고의 축조재료 활용을 위한 온도조건에 따른 함수비 변화와 다짐 특성 (A Characteristic on Difference of Water Content with Temperature and Compaction of Gypsum to Utilize Fill Material)

  • As a large construction such as highway, dam, reclaimed land etc. increase in number more and more, large amount of fill materials are required. It is needed to utilize a gypsum which is a by-product yielded from chemical plants, as fill materials. Though some studies have been conducted to know a engineering characteristic of gypsum, it is not certain that water contents were checked at $45^{\circ}C$ dry oven. This study proposed that water contents must be measured at $45^{\circ}C$ dry condition because gypsum is changed to other types as a dry temperature. As the results obtained by compaction tests, it is found that moisture of gypsum in compaction must be within -5.0~2.5 % O.M.C (optimal moisture content).

  • Physics-based distributed rainfall-runoff models are now commonly used in a variety of hydrologic applications such as to estimate flooding, water pollutant transport, sedimentation yield and so on. Moreover, it is not surprising that GIS has become an integral part of hydrologic research since this technology offers abundant information about spatial heterogeneity for both model parameters and input data that control hydrological processes. This study presents the development of a distributed rainfall-runoff prediction system for the Guem river basin ($9,835km^2$) using an Object-oriented Hydrological Modeling System (OHyMoS). We developed three types of element modules: Slope Runoff Module (SRM), Channel Routing Module (CRM), and Dam Reservoir Module (DRM) and then incorporated them systemically into a catchment modeling system under the OHyMoS. The study basin delineated by the 250m DEM (resampled from SRTM90) was divided into 14 midsize catchments and 80 sub-catchments where correspond to the WAMIS digital map. Each sub-catchment was represented by rectangular slope and channel components; water flows among these components were simulated by both SRM and CRM. In addition, outflows of two multi-purpose dams: Yongdam and Daechung dams were calculated by DRM reflecting decision makers' opinions. Therefore, the Guem river basin rainfall-runoff modeling system can provide not only each sub-catchment outflow but also dam inand outflow at one hour (or less) time step such that users can obtain comprehensive hydrological information readily for the effective and efficient flood control during a flood season.

수상태양광 발전시스템의 운영특성 및 설계요소에 관한 연구 (A Study on Operating Characteristics and Design Factors of Floating Photovoltaic Generating Facilities)

  • The floating photovoltaic system is a new concept in the renewable energy technology. That is similar to land based photovoltaic technology except floating system. So the system needs buoyant objects, mooring, ect, besides modules and supports, and that is able to withstand in water level changes and wind strength. Therefore the floating photovoltaic system is much different from land photovoltaic system. K-water (Korea Water Resources Corporation) has been operating two floating photovoltaic system that's capacity is 100 kW and 500 kW respectively since in summer 2011 for commercial generation, and have construction project for 2,000 kW in Boryeong multipurpose Dam and other areas. Furthermore K-water was developing a tracking-type floating photovoltaic system at Daecheong multipurpose Dam and developed and installed an ocean floating photovoltaic demonstration plant at Sihwa Lake in October 2013 for R&D. In this paper, we introduce that structure of floating photovoltaic system include buoyant structure, mooring system and auxiliary device. Especially the rope which is in part of mooring should be always maintain tension under any water level. Also we explain about structure design concept to wind load in an every loading condition and a kind of structure materials and PV structure types used in water environment. Especially ocean floating PV system is affected by tidal current and typhoon. So there are considering the elements in design. Finally we compare with floating and land photovoltaic on power amount. As a result of that we verified the floating photovoltaic system is more about 6.6~14.2 % efficiency than a general land photovoltaic system.

Synthetic Streamflow Generation Using Autoregressive Modeling in the Upper Nakdong River Basin

  • 수자원의 관리 및 계획시 강우, 유출, 유량과 같이 다양한 종류에 의한 수문사상의 합성 및 분석이 요구된다. 다양한 수문사상들은 대부분 추계학적모형에 의한 해석이 필요하며, 이중 적절한 시계열모의결과를 나타낼 수 있는 자기회귀모형 적용을 시도하였다. 본 연구에서는 낙동강 상류에 위치한 안동댐과 임하댐 두 관측소의 월유출량 자료를 이용하여 최적의 자기회귀모형을 검토하였으며, 분석결과 AR(3) 모형의 매개변수($\phi_1$, $\phi_2$, and $\phi_3$)가 가장 적합한 것으로 나타났으며, 다양한 분석 및 평가결과 AR(3)모형이 효과적이고 정확한 것으로 나타났다.
