Impregnation Behavior of SiCf/SiC Composites Depending on the Polycarbosilane Precursor and Solvent (폴리카보실란의 종류와 용제에 따른 SiCf/SiC복합재의 충진 거동)

  • Process conditions for the impregnation of polycarbosilane preceramic polymer into SiC-based composites were investigated. Two kinds of preceramic polymer (PCP) was impregnated into SiC-fiber fabrics with different solvents of n-hexane and divinylbenzene (DVB). Both microstructural observations and mechanical tests were conducted to evaluate the impregnation. The matrix phases were particulated in the case of hexane solvents. Apparent relative density of the matrix was about 78.8%. The density of matrix was increased to about 96.1-98.8% when the DVB was used; however, brittle fracture was observed during a bending test. The modulus of toughness was less than $0.74J/m^3$. The fabric impregnated with a mixed PCP-dissolved solution showed intermediate characteristics with relative high density of filling (apparent density of ~96.1%) as well as proper bending behavior. The modulus of toughness was increased to about $5.31J/m^3$. The composites developed by changing the precursor and solvent suggested the possibility of fabricating SiCf/SiC composites without a fiber to matrix interphase coating.

A Unified Time-domain Channel Estimator for OFDM based Ubiquitous Broadband Access (OFDM 기반의 유비쿼터스 광대역 접속을 위한 단일화 시간영역 채널 추정기)

  • This paper proposes a unified time-domain channel estimator (UTD-CE) for ubiquitous wireless broadband access based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. As a part of a software radio platform for ubiquitous services, the proposed UTD-CE can be exploited with the simply changeable parameters, pilot symbols and pilot subcarriers allocation, which are usually different according to the system specifications such as IEEE802.11x WiFI, IEEE802.16x WiMAX, DMB, Media FLO, DVB-H, etc. Given the pilot information, the channel frequency responses (CFRs) of data subcarriers will be analogously estimated by Wiener filtering and discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-based interpolation in the UTD-CE. Simulation results indicate that the proposed method significantly outperforms the conventional time-domain channel estimator when the pilot information is changed.

  • Separation between computation and communication in system design allows the system designer to explore the communication architecture independently of component selection and mapping. In this paper we present an iterative two-step exploration methodology for bus-based on-chip communication architecture and memory allocation, assuming that memory traces from the processing elements are given from the mapping stage. The proposed method uses a static performance estimation technique to reduce the large design space drastically and quickly, and applies a trace-driven simulation technique to the reduced set of design candidates for accurate Performance estimation. Since local memory traffics as well as shared memory traffics are involved in bus contention, memory allocation is considered as an important axis of the design space in our technique. The viability and efficiency of the proposed methodology arc validated by two real -life examples, 4-channel digital video recorder (DVR) and an equalizer for OFDM DVB-T receiver.

  • With the development of broadcasting technology from analogue to interactive digital, the number of TV channels and contents provided to audience is increasing in a rapid speed. In this multi-media and multi-channel world, it is difficult to adapt to the increase of TV channel numbers and their contents merely using remote controller to search channels. Due to this reason, EPG (Electronic Program Guide) has been one of the essential services providing convenience to audience. So EPG complying with European DVB-MHP specifications, which will be also our domestic standard, is proposed in this paper. In order to provide audiences with DiTV contents they preferred, we apply collaborative filtering algorithm to recommend contents according to preference value of audience group with similar preference. And we use JavaXlet application which is based on MHP to implement this EPG, while the result can be verified by OpenMHP emulator.

  • In this paper, we presented non-uniform quantization method for LDPC decoder specified in DVB-S2 standard. There are some problems in order to implement LDPC decoder in aspect to algorithm and implementation. In algorithm aspect, because of large number of iterations, LDPC decoding in general give rise to a large number of computation operations, mass power consumption, and decoding delay. Therefore, this paper studies Horizontal Shuffle Scheduling (HSS) algorithm which reduced iteration number without performance loss. In aspect of implementation, there are some solutions to improve the decoding speed, however this paper focused on non-uniform quantization which reduce the quantization bits of LDPC decoder. In simulation results, Decoding throughput of HSS LDPC decoder based on non-uniform quantization is 816Mbps and it improved 12% compared to conventional one.

A Study on layered Space Time Trellis codes for MIMO system based on Iterative Decoding Algorithm (MIMO 시스템에서 반복 복호 알고리즘 기반의 계층적 시공간 부호화 방식 연구)

  • The next-generation wireless communication requires fast transmission speeds with various services and high reliability. In order to satisfy these needs we study MIMO system used layered space time coded system (LST) combining space time trellis codes (STTC) with turbo codes. In LST, two codes that are inner and outer codes are concatenated in the serial fashion. The inner codes are turbo Pi codes suggested in DVB-RCS NG system, and outer codes are STTC codes proposed by Blum. The interleaver technique is used to efficiently combine two codes. And we proposed and simulated that a full iteration method between turbo decoder and BCJR decoder to improve the performance instead of only processing inner-iteration turbo decoder. The simulation results of proposed effective layered method show improving BER performance about 1.3~1.5dB than conventional one.

  • Using a cation exchange resin of polystyrene-DVB copolymer as a carbon source for the production of activated carbon, the effects of operating parameters on the physical properties of activated carbon such as specific surface area and specific pore volume were experimentally studied. In carbonization process specific surface area and specific pore volume of carbonized product decreased with the increase of carbonization temperature and time. They were proportional to activation temperature and time up to the specific temperature and time in activation process. In carbonization process the increase of heating rate gave negative effect to the properties. The properties of activated product, on the contrary, increased with the heating rate in carbonization process. The properties of activated carbon manufactured with the resin exchanged with divalent cations were lower than those with raw resin.

  • The development of the digital compression technology and the broadcasting receiver's processing power make it possible to apply a multi-view function to the broadcasting services. The multi-view function is usually utilized to provide simultaneously several programs to viewers or to implement a multi-angle service of a sports program that allows a viewer to choose a video of his/her prefer viewpoint. The paper proposes an integrated method for utilizing a multi-view function in the digital broadcasting environment in which more than 100 programs are on air and there may be various data services which want to use multi-view video clips. For the purpose, a method of composing and transmitting multi-view videos and related information has been devised and a Java API to utilize the rapid editing function of a decoding chip-set has been implemented to clip, resize, and display parts of the multi-view videos.

  • APSK (Amplitude Phase Shift Keying) digital modulation is characterized by the circular positioning of the transmission symbols in the constellation diagram. Due to such structural characteristics, the peak-to-average power ratio of the APSK modulation is lower than that of the QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), and the amount of performance degradation over nonlinear channels can be mitigated. The APSK modulation scheme has recently been adopted as satellite communication system standards including the DVB-S2 (Digital Video Broadcasting - Satellite, Version 2). In this paper, a BER (Bit Error Rate) upper bound approximation formula is derived using the channel model with the output power saturation characteristics, and its accuracy is demonstrated. Using the derived formula, the input power level that minimizes the BER is determined. The optimized performance based on the radii ratio of the 16APSK constellation and the channel saturation level is also presented.
