  • The aim of this study is to provide the values and descriptive implications of the Design Thinking (DT) method into the context of educational problems of practice in an undergraduate course. To achieve the research objective, both quantitative and qualitative studies were conducted. For the qualitative study, the student's productions and reflections on the experience of the application of the DT into educational problems were analyzed. For the quantitative research, one-group pre and post-test were designed to validate the effectiveness of the DT method into educational contexts in terms of creativity level to measure the student's Creativity Potential and Practiced Creativity, Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, and Problem-Solving Inventory. This study validated that the DT method had a statistically significant influence on those three competencies and also illustrated the detailed process from a qualitative viewpoint. The results and implications reflect the potential of the DT approach with the educational problem of practice, especially, in the ill-structured problem-solving contexts for student-centered instructional setting.

  • By looking the importance of communication, data delivery and access in various sectors including governmental, business and individual for any kind of data, it becomes mandatory to identify faults and flaws during cyber communication. To protect personal, governmental and business data from being misused from numerous advanced attacks, there is the need of cyber security. The information security provides massive protection to both the host machine as well as network. The learning methods are used for analyzing as well as preventing various attacks. Machine learning is one of the branch of Artificial Intelligence that plays a potential learning techniques to detect the cyber-attacks. In the proposed methodology, the Decision Tree (DT) which is also a kind of supervised learning model, is combined with the different cross-validation method to determine the accuracy and the execution time to identify the cyber-attacks from a very recent dataset of different network attack activities of network traffic in the UNSW-NB15 dataset. It is a hybrid method in which different types of attributes including Gini Index and Entropy of DT model has been implemented separately to identify the most accurate procedure to detect intrusion with respect to the execution time. The different DT methodologies including DT using Gini Index, DT using train-split method and DT using information entropy along with their respective subdivision such as using K-Fold validation, using Stratified K-Fold validation are implemented.

  • Among the various image fusion or pan-sharpening methods, those wavelet-based methods provide superior radiometric quality. However, the fusion processing is not only simple but also flexible, since many low- and high-frequency sub-bands are often produced in the wavelet domain. To address this issue, a novel DT-CWT (Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform) proportional to the fusion method by a WZP (Wavelet Zero-Padding) is proposed. The proposed method produces a single high-frequency image in the spatial domain that is injected into the LRM (Low-Resolution Multispectral) image. Thus, a wavelet domain fusion can be simplified to spatial domain fusion. In addition, in the proposed DT-CWTP (DT-CWT Proportional) fusion method, it is unnecessary to decompose the LRM image by adopting WZP. The comparison indicates that the proposed fusion method is nearly five times faster than the DT-CWT with SW (Substitute-Wavelet) fusion method, meanwhile simultaneously maintaining the radiometric quality. The conducted experiments with WorldView-2 satellite images demonstrated promising results with the computation efficiency and fused image quality.

  • Bridges using double-tee (DT) girders from 12 m to 15 m are one of the good choices to improve accessibility in rural areas of the Mekong River Delta. In this study, nonlinear finite element method (FEM) analysis was conducted with different constitutive laws of materials. The FEM analysis results were compared to experimental results to confirm the applicability of the constitutive laws of materials for DT girders. A parametric study through FEM analysis was then conducted to investigate the effect of span lengths, top flange depths, and a number of prestressing tendons on the capacity of DT girders in order that propose DT girders for rural bridges. Parametric results showed that the top flange depth of a DT girder for rural bridges could be 120 mm. The DT girder with a span length of 12 m or 13 m could be used 16 tendons, while the DT girder with a span length of 14 m or 15 m could be set up with 20 tendons. The prestressed concrete DT girders based on FEM results can be suggested for the construction of rural bridges.

  • Tractography using Diffusion Tensor Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DT-MRI) is a method to determine the architecture of axonal fibers in the central nervous system by computing the direction of the principal eigenvector in the white matter of the brain. However, the fiber tracking methods suffer from the noise included in the diffusion tensor images that affects the determination of the principal eigenvector. As the fiber tracking progresses, the accumulated error creates a large deviation between the calculated fiber and the real fiber. This problem of the DT-MRI tractography is known mathematically as the ill-posed problem which means that tractography is very sensitive to perturbations by noise. To reduce the noise in DT-MRI measurements, a tensor-valued median filter which is reported to be denoising and structure-preserving in fiber tracking, is applied in the tractography. In this paper, we proposed the modified gradient descent method which converges fast and accurately to the optimal tensor-valued median filter by changing the step size. In addition, the performance of the modified gradient descent method is compared with others. We used the synthetic image which consists of 45 degree principal eigenvectors and the corticospinal tract. For the synthetic image, the proposed method achieved 4.66%, 16.66% and 15.08% less error than the conventional gradient descent method for error measures AE, AAE, AFA respectively. For the corticospinal tract, at iteration number ten the proposed method achieved 3.78%, 25.71 % and 11.54% less error than the conventional gradient descent method for error measures AE, AAE, AFA respectively.

  • The resonant formation rates of muonic molecular ion dtr in the muon-catalyzed fusion are calculated in various fuel temperatures and densities. The elastic scattering cross sections between t$\mu$ and deuterons are obtained by making use of the partial wave method. The transition property of the excited compound molecule [(dt$\mu$)dee]* derived by the impulse approximation in the form of a bound-state form factor. The radiative, Auger, and collisional deexcitations are considered as the deexcitation mechanisms of the excited dt$\mu$, and each deexcitation width is calculated as well as back decay width. The resultant reaction widths are used to calculate the formation cross sections of resonant dt$\mu$. The resonant formation rates for dt$\mu$-d and dt$\mu$-t collisions are computed as functions of fuel temperature and density. The calculations show that the resonant formation rates increase with fuel densities and have the maximum values at the particular temperatures where the relative collision energies are equal to the resonant ones.

  • This paper deals with the problem of double-talk (DT) detection in anacoustic echo canceller (AEC). In the DT detection algorithm with correlation coefficient, detection errors occasionally occur because it is hard to set the threshold to distinguish DT from echo path change (EPC). Adaptive filter falls into the situation that it stops updating its filter coefficients when EPC is erroneously considered as DT at the starting-point of EPC. In addition, in case of echo path changing during the DT period, the end-point detection of DT period fails so that the AEC cannot update its filter coefficients for a while even after the DT period ends. To solve these problems, in this paper, we propose a novel AEC that employs an auxiliary filter. We use the idea that though the error signal cannot be estimated using reference signal in case or DT situation but it can be in case or EPC situation. The experimental result verifies that the proposed method could solve the problems caused by DT detection error or echo path change during the DT period.

  • This paper proposes a new filter topology that suppresses the high voltage gradient(dv/dt) in ac motor terminals. The high voltage gradient(dv/dt) causes over voltages on the motor windings, the degradation or motor insulation, and the bearing failure. Moreover surge voltage with high voltage gradient(dv/dt) in the PWM inverter red drive system where long line cables are required causes more serious problem to the motor. Thus, the most advisable method is attaching output filter to the inverter output terminals. The conventional output filters have several problems such as bulky size, difficulty or parameter tuning. The proposed filter can be relatively smaller than the conventional filters. By the proposed filter, the shaping or PWM waveform can considerably suppress high dv/dt in motor feeding cable from the inverter. The effectiveness or the proposed filter is compared with that or the conventional one and is verified by the computer simulation.
