  • We investigate optimal and suboptimal decision rules for parallel code acquisition in chip asynchronous direct-sequence spread-spectrum systems. The conventional decision rule for parallel acquisition is to choose the largest correlator output of a receiver. However, such a scheme is optimum only for chip synchronous models. In this paper, an optimal decision rule is derived based on the maximum-likehood criterion for chip asynchronous models. A simpler suboptimal decision rule is also discussed. The performance of the optimum and suboptimum decision rules is compared to that of the conventional decision rule. Numerical results show that, for chip asynchronous models, both the optimal and suboptimal decision rules outperform the conventional decision rule.

  • In this paper, a soft-decision method for initial PN code acquisition in pilot-channel aided Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) systems is proposed in order to improve the acquisition performance. We apply this technique to the conventional hybrid search algorithm and analyze it in terms of mean code acquisition time. For the analysis, we present mathematical model of proposed algorithm and also perform the simulation under IMT-2000 channel models. Numerical results show that our proposed scheme outperforms the conventional one by 0.2 - 0.4 sec with respect to the mean code acquisition time because the soft decision technique can mitigate the possible decline in search performance caused by the use of a hard-decision technique.

  • This paper presents a fast switching direct torque control (FS-DTC) using only a single DC-link current sensor. In FS-DTC, six new active voltage complex space vectors (CSVs) are synthesized by the conventional active voltage space vectors (SVs). The corresponding sectors are rotated in the anticlockwise direction by 30 degrees. A selection table is defined to select the CSVs. Based on the "Different Phase Mode", the output sequence of the selected CSV is optimized. Accordingly, a reconstruction method is proposed to acquire the phase currents. The core of the FS-DTC is that all of the three phase currents can be reliably reconstructed during every two sampling periods, which is the result of the fast switching between different phases. The errors between the reconstructed and actual currents are strictly limited in one sampling period. The FS-DTC has the advantages of the standard DTC scheme such as simple structure, quick torque response and robustness. As can be seen in the analysis, the FS-DTC can be thought of as an equivalent standard DTC scheme with 86.6% of the maximum speed, 173.2% of the torque ripple, and 115% of the response time of the torque. Based on a dSPACE DS1103 controller, the FS-DTC is implemented in an induction machine drive system. The results verify the effectiveness of the FS-DTC.

  • A differencing multiuser detection (MUD) method is proposed for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) direct sequence (DS) ultra-wideband (UWB) system to cope with the multiple access interference (MAI) and the computational efficiency in Nakagami fading channel. The method, which combines a multiuser-interference-cancellation-based decision feedback equalizer using error feedback filter (MIC DFE-EFF), a coefficient optimization algorithm (COA) and a differencing algorithm (DA), is termed as MIC DFE-EFF (COA) with DA for short. In the paper, the proposed MUD method is illuminated from the rudimental MIC DFE-EFF to the advanced MIC DFE-EFF (COA) with DA step by step. Firstly, the MIC DFE-EFF system performance is analyzed by minimum mean square error criterion. Secondly, the COA is investigated for optimization of each filter coefficient. Finally, the DA is introduced to reduce the computational complexity while sacrificing little performance. Simulations show a significant performance gain can be achieved by using the MIC DFE-EFF (COA) with DA detector. The proposed MIC DFE-EFF (COA) with DA improves both bit error rate performance and computational efficiency relative to DFE, DFE-EFF, parallel interference cancellation (PIC), MIC DFE-EFF and MIC DFE-EFF with DA, though it sacrifices little system performance, compared with MIC DFE-EFF (COA) without DA.

  • We propose a parallel acquisition scheme using antenna arrays for initial acquisition of direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DS-SS) signals. The proposed parallel scheme can lower substantially the range of detectable signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) as compared to the conventional parallel scheme with a single antenna. The proposed scheme uses the sum of the independent decision samples from antenna arrays corresponding to an identical subsequence of the pseudonoise (PN) code as a decision variable. We derive the probabilities of detection, missing, and false alarm under an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel and a flat Rayleigh fading channel. Using these, we get the mean acquisition time of the proposed scheme. From numerical results, we see that the acquisition performance becomes improved continually as the number of antennas increases.

  • We investigate the optimal chip rate of power or rate adapted direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) communication systems in Nakagami fading channels. We find that the optimal chip rate that maximizes the spectral efficiency depends upon both the channel parameters, such as multipath intensity profile (MIP) and line-of-sight (LOS) component, and the adaptation scheme itself. With the rate adaptation, the optimal chip rate is less than $1/T_m$, irrespective of the channel parameters, where $1/T_m$ is multipath delay spread. This indicates that with the rate adaptation, correlation receiver achieves higher spectral efficiency than RAKE receiver. With the power adaptation, however, the optimal chip rate and the corresponding number of tabs in RAKE receiver are sensitive to MIP and LOS component.

  • The error performance of M-ary differential phase shift keying (MDPSK) through m-distribution fading channel in hybrid direct sequence/slow frequency hopped spread spectrum multiple access (DS/SFH-SSMA) systems has been evaluated, and also the error probability has been evaluate when adopting diversity technique and coding technique. From the results, we know that the error performance more deteriorates as depth of fading becomes deeper. In Rayleigh fading environment (m=1), increasing of the number of frequency hopping (q) reduces the effect of multiple access interference, because it decreases the probability a hit. When q is much larger than the number of user (K), the probability of error in high E/N region is dominated by the multipath interference while the multiple access interference is negligible. In lower E/N region, the probability of error is independent of q because the effect of gaussian noise becomes dominat.

  • The error rate equations of MPSK and DS/MPSK radio signals transmitted through the m-distributed fading channel in Gaussian noise and tone interference environments have been derived. Using the derived equations, the error rate performance is evaluated and shown as functions of carrier-to-noise ratio, carrier-to-interference ratio, processing gain, fading index and the number of diversity branches. The derivation has been done for two cases. The first case assumes that only the signal is undergoing the influence of fading, and the second case assumes that both signal and interference are undergoing the influence of fading simultaneously. From the obtained results, we have known that the error performance of MPSK signal is improved by using diversity technique and direct sequence spread spectrum technique even in a fading environment. Also comparing the error rate performance of two cases, the latter is worse than the former.

  • An adaptive array antennal and a CCI canceller have been considered as techniques for cancelling Multi-User Interference(MUI) in Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access(DS-CDMA) system. These techniques have different problems respectively in the process of cancelling MUI as the number of users increases. For that reason, the scheme which can cancel MUI effectively by compensating for the problems of each of the techniques has been required. For the scheme, the technique to connect an adaptive array antenna and a CoChannel Interference(CCI) canceller in cascade form has been studied. In the existing study about the cascade connection method, the effect of cancelling MUI about two interference signals is analyzed, but the analysis for the quantitative BER(Bit Error Rate) improvement according to the number of users is not considered. Therefore, in this paper, we have analyzed the degree of BER performance improvement quantitatively according to the number of users by introducing the receiving system, which connects an adaptive array antenna and a CCI canceller to a DS-CDMA system in cascade form. For the method of analyzing the performance, we have performed the theoretical analysis and the simulation, considering the case of adopting only an adaptive array antenna and of cascade connection respectively, and having compared and analyzed the results. From the results, it is confirmed that in the case of adopting only an adaptive array antenna, the problems occur in the process of cancelling MUI according to the number of users and the receiving direction of interference signals, and can be compensated by the cascade connection method. In conclusion, we have known that MUI is cancelled effectively by using the cascade connection method, and the much better BER performance improvement is obtained.

  • In multicarrier code division multiple access(MC-CDMA), the total system bandwidth is divided into a number of sub-bands, where each subband may use direct-sequence(DS) spreading and each subband signal is transmitted using a subcarrier frequency. In this paper, the system performance analysis of MC-CDMA using to gain combining(EGC) and maximal ratio combining(MRC) method over frequency selective Nakagami-m fading channel is analyzed. In the proposed system, a data sequence is serial-to-parallel converted, and MC-CDMA is used on each of the parallel data streams. The data streams are spread at both the symbol fraction level and at the chip level by the transmitter. In this paper, the compare to analysis, two standard diversity combining techniques, EGC and MRC, The good performance of system using to MRC more than EGC
