This study was conducted to investigate the effect of onion cultivation under paddy and upland condition on the yield and storage of onion bulbs. In comparison of soil conditions, nitrogen, phosphate, potassium content and average temperature in upland condition were higher than those of paddy condition, but calcium, magnesium, sodium and water content in paddy condition were higher than those of upland condition. The growth of aerial part was better in upland cultivated condition. It showed that bulb formation in paddy cultivated condition was faster during in early growth stage, but was slower during in late growth stage. Average bulb size and weight were higher in upland cultivated condition, but dry weight per 100 g fresh weight and bulb hardness were higher in paddy cultivated condition. Sugar contents, inorganic compounds, nitrogen, phosphate and potassium content of onion were higher in upland cultivated condition, but calcium, magnesium and sodium content of onion were higher in paddy cultivated condition. In distribution of onion bulb size, most of large sized onions were produced in upland cultivated condition. Average bulb production for seed harvesting were $63{\sim}70%$ higher in paddy cultivated condition than that of upland cultivated condition. The rotted rate of onion was about $27.2{\sim}34.6%$ in paddy, $37.5{\sim}51.4%$ in upland cultivated condition respectively, showed favorable result as the difference of $8.7{\sim}24.2%$ in paddy cultivated condition.

In this study, we estimated the applicability of length-weight relationship-based biomass calculations by comparison of body length of genus Polyarthra collected from different habitats. Through the comparison, we also tested availability of representative species-specific biomass value of Polyarthra which is often used without length measurement. Polyarthra samples were collected from rivers (Han River and Nakdong River) and reservoir (Paldang Reservoir), and the body length was measured for statistical comparison among habitats and biomass calculations using different equations suggested previously. According to the results, the body length of Polyarthra spp. was significantly different among sampling sites, and the necessity of body length measurement for rotifer species in each situation has been suggested rather than using the representative biomass values which is fixed without considering time and space. Comparison of suggested biomass calculations based on our measured Polyarthra body length, the equation suggested by McCauley showed more reasonable range of biomass values than that suggested by EPA. In addition, in order to calculate more accurate biomass, it is necessary to measure the body length of rotifers, at least more than 44 individuals to reduce error probability to less than 5% with 99% probability. However, since direct measurement of rotifers biomass is limited, it is considered that further analyses are required for more precise application of rotifer biomass of which has high variability due to complex morphologies and species-specific cyclomorphosis often induced by biotic and abiotic factors in the habitats.

The study was conducted to clarify the mixed seeding rate of whole crop barley with hood type and forage pea for using of forage crops and to compare the forage yield and quality. At a mixed seeding rate between the whole crop barley (WCB) and forage pea, The heading date and plant height of WCB were not a difference according to mixed seeding rate of forage pea. The tillers of the WCB were a decrease and plant of the forage pea were a increase according to increased seeding rate of forage pea. The lodging index of the WCB was a appearance with distribution of $0{\sim}3$, The lodging index of WCB with a 20kg/10a seeding rate of a only WCB without seeding of the forage pea was 3. The overwintering rate of forage pea was a appearance more than 90% at all treatment. The plant height of forage pea was a increase according to increased seeding rate of forage pea at 14 kg/10a and 20 kg/10a plots of WCB. At a mixed seeding between the WCB and forage pea, The fresh weight was a increase according to increased seeding rate of forage pea and was a appearance more than 3,000 kg at all treatment plot. But the dry matter weight was decrease according to increased seeding rates of forage pea. The dry matter weight of 20 kg/10a seeding rate of a only WCB without seeding of the forage pea showed the most amount with 1,266 kg. The crude protein (CP) content was a tendency to increase according to increased seeding rates of forage pea. But, the relative feed value (RFV) was a tendency to decrease according to increased seeding rate of forage pea. The highest RFV was 183.8 at 14 kg/10a seeding rate of a only WCB without seeding of the forage pea. The acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) were a increase according to increased seeding rate of forage pea at 14 kg/10a and 20 kg/10a plots of WCB. The highest content of ADF and NDF were 23.9% and 46.3% at mixed seeding rate of 20 kg/10a of WCB with 10 kg/10a of forage pea, respectively. The highest sum of standardized score by fresh weight, dry matter weight, CP, ADF, NDF and RFV was 2.309 at mixed seeding rate of 20 kg/10a of WCB with 7.5 kg/10a of forage pea. The optimum mixed seeding rate was a considered judgment in the order of mixed seeding rate of 20 kg/10a of WCB with 7.5 kg/10a of forage pea, mixed seeding rate of 20 kg/10a of WCB with 5.0 kg/10a of forage pea.

This study was conducted to investigate optimal temperature of garlic and develop bulb weight model in harvest time. Day and night temperature in chambers was set to $11/7^{\circ}C$, $14/10^{\circ}C$, $17/12^{\circ}C$, $20/15^{\circ}C$, $23/18^{\circ}C$, $28/23^{\circ}C$(16/8h). Bulb fresh and dry weight was heaviest on $20/15^{\circ}C$. In $11/7^{\circ}C$ and $14/10^{\circ}C$, leaf number and total leaf area increased slowly. But in the harvest, leaf number and total leaf area were not significant, except $28/23^{\circ}C$. Models were developed with fresh bulb weight. As a result of analyzing the model, $18{\sim}20^{\circ}C$ certified optimal mean temperature. And the growing degree day base temperature estimated $7.1^{\circ}C$, upper temperature threshold estimated $31.7^{\circ}C$. To verify the model, mean temperature on temperature gradient tunnel applied to the growth rate model. Lineal function model, quadric model, and logistic distribution model showed 79.0~95.0%, 77.2~92.3% and 85.0~95.8% accuracy, respectively. Logistic distribution model has the highest accuracy and good for explaining moderate temperature, growing degree day base temperature and upper temperature threshold.
As a basic experiment to enhance the symbiotic utility of atmospheric nitrogen on soybean, host affinities and serological distribution of Bradyrhizobium japonicum indigenous to five Korean upland soils were measured. Based on nodulation, the symbiotic affinities between indigenous B, japonicum and eight soybean cultivars were remarkably different among soil inocula. On the whole, the averaged affinities of B. japonicum populations to soybeans were favorable in order of Goseong > Milyang > Suweon soils, but those in Iksan and Namjeju soils were not, especially for Danweonkong, Jangkyeongkong, and Eunhakong soybean cultivars. Regression analyses between nodules mass and shoot dry weight of soybean yielded model with $R^2=0.51$ for Goseong, $R^2=0.45$ for Milyang, $R^2=0.38$ for Iksan, $R^2=0.28$ for Namjeju, and $R^2=0.24$ for Suweon soils. B. japonicum from sampled soils were serologically fell into more than seven serogroups such as YCK 117(34.1%), YCK 141(6.5%), YCK 321(6.5%), YCK 445(4.7%), YCK 338(2.9%), YCK 150(1.2%), YCK 258(0.6%). The dominant serogroup YCK 117 was distributed 51.9 for Namjeju, 45.8 for Goseong, 41.7 for Iksan. 34.2 for Sueveon, and 11.1% for Milyang soils.
The damage by the black-tipped sawfly, Acantholyda posticalis posticalis Matsumura, has been increasing at several locations in central part of the Korean peninsula. This study was undertaken at selected plots in Kapyung-gun, Kyunggi Province and Hongchon-gun, Kangwon Province from 1984 to 1987. The purpose of this study was to provide basic information for integrated control of this pest and to determine the economic threshold by investigating the pest host interactions with special reference to damage analysis. The results obtained were as follows ; 1. The damage was more severe at upper part than at lower part of the crown. The vertical distribution of dry weight of damaged trees above ground showed L-type distribution, whereas that of healthy trees showed C-type distribution. 2. The needle loss by sawfly reduced both of height and the diameter growth of the main stem. The growth reduction occurs when the needle loss is 50% or higher. About 10% of tree growth was reduced at 50% of needle loss. 3. The reduction of diameter growth was more severe at upper part than at lower part of the main stem. 4. Volume growth was reduced when more than 50% of the needles were damaged after three years of the sawfly infestation. Reductions of total volume increment at the levels 70% and 90% of needle damage were 9% and 20%, respectively.

This study examined the habitat distribution characteristics of Aquatic Oligochaeta according to the construction of weirs in the four major rivers in South Korea. The area was investigated 10 times from March to October in 2018 and a total of 18 species and 35,390 ind. m-2 were sampled. The dominant species by number was Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri(77.1%) and the subdominant species was Branchiura sowerbyi(9.5%). A total of 32.418 g m-2 dry weight was analyzed. The correlation analysis showed that the number of Aquatic Oligochaeta individuals correlated with the sediment depth, clay ratio, silt ratio, sand ratio, cobble ratio, pebble ratio, pH and TOC mg L-1. Specifically, the clay ratio and sediment depth were associated with increases in the number of individuals. The total organic carbon(TOC) increased from March to October and, conversely, the number of individuals tended to decrease.

Characteristics of heating and drying of Canadian-imported Douglas-fir timber using microwave in order to secure convenience and quality of drying timber and to get basic data for secondary conservation treatment are as follows: As the results of analysis of change curves of internal temperature of the timber after irradiating it, round timber and board timber showed stable heat distribution, heat consumption and surface water-content in heating with 30kW for 30 minutes and 120 minutes and with 40kW for 3 minutes and 9 minutes, respectively. Especially, surface water-content distribution according to heating by microwave showed very even leveling and water-content decrease rate was also more 30% compared to its weight showing excellent dry efficiency. And in case of soaking timbers into liquid chemicals for secondary conservation according to the analysis results of heat consumption, it is expected that large amount of preservative will be permeated. Therefore, timber heated by microwave is remarkably available for using industrial materials and developing secondary utilized products with its fast water-content decrease and dryness and higher heat consumption.

There has been a recent trend in Korea that treatments for combustible wastes among municipal solid waste (MSW) by those methods, such as incineration and landfill are restricted as much as possible and Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) are encouraged actively in order to promote resource recovery. To build and operate properly these facilities, the physicochemical characteristics of MSW should be analyzed precisely beforehand. In particular, designing a crusher or separator properly which is the main process in MBT facilities of MSW. require the information on the size distribution characteristics of MSW, but they are nor sufficient in the qualities and quantities yet as of now. Accordingly, this study aims to evaluate size distribution characteristics of MSW and its physicochemical characteristics by size. The samples of MSW were collected from detached dwelling area, apartment area, business area, and commercial area of A city in Korea. According to the result of analysis, paper records 29.78~60.02% by wet weight basis, so it was the most regardless of the regions where the wastes were generated. And in terms of element analysis, Carbon(C) was 34.77~44.39%, the largest friction, and Oxygen(O) was the next occupying 19.46~33.71%. As indices of RDFs, Chlorine(Cl) was 0.39~0.83%, so it was less than the standard, 2.0%(by dry weight basis); moreover, Sulfur(S) did not exceed the standard, 0.6%, either. In the size distribution of MSW, waste fraction ranging 50~80mm in diameter was the most in combustible waste while 30~50mm was in incombustible waste.
This study was conducted for the production of water-soluble dietary fiber (SDF) from buckwheat hulls by using Celluclast or Viscozyme. The functionality of this SDF, including antioxidant activity, glucose- and bile acid-retardation effects in vitro, was measured. SDF yields from cellulose and hemicellulose fractions were 60.5 and 123.7 g/kg dry matter, respectively. Analysis of molecular weight distribution of SDF by using gel chromatography showed that SDF degradation increased with increase in reaction time. The antioxidant activity of SDF obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis was higher than that of dietary fiber without enzyme treatment. SDF showed higher retardation effects on glucose and bile acid than the sample without dietary fiber did. The results of this study suggested that SDF produced from buckwheat hull by enzymatic hydrolysis is a good source of functional food material because of its high antioxidant activity and glucose- and bile acid-retardation effects.
