디지털 흉부 후·전 방향 방사선영상을 이용한 정상 한국인 폐 크기의 영상의학적 계측 (Radiological Measurements of Lung Field Size in Normal Korean using Digital Chest Posteroanterior Radiography)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide baseline data on lung field size measured radiological method by chest PA image in normal Korean. The subject of this study is 496 normal persons who performed chest PA examination using x-ray digital radiography system. The measurement method is from the apex of right and left lung to the costophrenic angle of both lung, from the top of the image to the lowest costophrenic angle of both lung and transverse line of the largest lung area. As a result of this study, the following conclusions were obtained. A lung field size of male is larger than the female(p<0.05). The younger the age, the longer both lung length and total lung height statistically significant. As a increase height and length, A lung field size was increased(p<0.05). But, BMI is not associated with a lung field size. This study will be data of reference data when radiological technologists perform chest PA examination.

Temperature and diameter effect on hydrodynamic characteristic of surfactant drag-reducing flows

  • Hydrodynamic characteristic of surfactant drag-reducing flows is still not fully understood. This work investigated the temperature and diameter effect on hydrodynamic characteristic of cationic surfactant drag reducing flows in pipes. Solution of oleyl bishydroxyethyl methyl ammonium chloride (Ethoquad O/12), 900 ppm, as a cationic surfactant and sodium salicylate (NaSal), 540 ppm, as a counter-ion was tested at 12, 25, 40, and $50^{\circ}C$ in pipes with diameter of 13, 25, and 40 mm. Drag reduction effectiveness of this surfactant solution was evaluated in 25 mm pipe from 6 to $75^{\circ}C$. Rheological characteristic of this solution was measured by stress control type rheometer with cone-and-plate geometry. Scale-up laws proposed by previous investigators were used to evaluate the flow characteristic of the solution. It was found that this surfactant solution has clear DR capability until $70^{\circ}C$. Result of this work suggested that temperature has a significant influence in changing the hydrodynamic entrance length of surfactant drag reducing flows. From rheological measurement, it was found that the solution exhibits Shear Induced Structure at all temperatures with different degree of peak viscosity and critical shear rate.

Susceptibility of Koi, Koi×Red Common Carp, and Red Common Carp×Koi to Koi Herpesvirus (KHV)

  • The disease-causing koi herpes virus (KHV), also known as cyprinid herpesvirus-3 (CyHV3), causes mass mortality of koi and carp. Koi (Cyprinus carpio) is a host for KHV, one of 12 virus species in the Alloherpesviridae family. We examined the effects of KHV disease koi (KK), and on koi×red common carp (KR) and red common carp×koi (RK) cross, using a virus challenge test. The infected fish had clinical signs that included gill necrosis and skin lesions. The RK and KR were highly more resistant (cumulative mortality: RK; 6% and KR; 8%) to KHV infection than KK fish (cumulative mortality: 28%). KHV DNA was confirmed in the tissues of all dead fish in groups by use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and the presence of the KHV protein in kidney was confirmed by immunohistochemistry. Histological analysis showed severe gill lesions and fusion of the lamellae in KK fish, but less severe damage in RK fish. In immunohistochemistry analysis, the KHV protein localized in the cytoplasm of infected kidney cells of KK, but the cross groups had lower levels of KHV antigen. Our data indicate that the cross groups had increased resistance to KHV disease.

Reproduction and Maturation of Sea Bass, Lateolabrax japonicus, after Transportation from Net-Cages to Indoor Tanks

  • To determine whether the reproductive processes of sea bass, Lateolabrax japonicus, proceed normally after transportation from an outdoor net-cage into indoor tanks, we examined changes in the gonadosomatic index (GSI), histological gonadal tissue, and plasma levels of sex hormones (testosterone and estradiol-17ß) during their annual reproductive cycle. We also measured maturation and spawning across two sea water salinity levels (full and low salinity). Fecundity was estimated by the relationship between egg number and body size in female sea bass. Monthly changes in the GSI, histological gonadal tissues, and oocyte size showed both male and female sea bass reach final maturation in January and February, respectively, indicating that the spermiation of males occurs earlier than the spawning of females. The histological results indicated that the sea bass is a multiple spawner, similar to many marine teleosts, exhibiting group-synchronous oocyte development. Female maturation and spawning were enhanced in lower salinity seawater (29.6-31.0 psu) compared to that of normal salinity (34.5-35.1 psu). These results confirm that sea bass reproduction can occur successfully in captivity and imply that fertilized eggs can be collected from February to March. Additionally, our results show that lower salinity enhances oocyte maturation and spawning of female sea bass.

An Efficient DNA Sequence Compression using Small Sequence Pattern Matching

  • Bioinformatics is formed with a blend of biology and informatics technologies and it employs the statistical methods and approaches for attending the concerning issues in the domains of nutrition, medical research and towards reviewing the living environment. The ceaseless growth of DNA sequencing technologies has resulted in the production of voluminous genomic data especially the DNA sequences thus calling out for increased storage and bandwidth. As of now, the bioinformatics confronts the major hurdle of management, interpretation and accurately preserving of this hefty information. Compression tends to be a beacon of hope towards resolving the aforementioned issues. Keeping the storage efficiently, a methodology has been recommended which for attending the same. In addition, there is introduction of a competent algorithm that aids in exact matching of small pattern. The DNA representation sequence is then implemented subsequently for determining 2 bases to 6 bases matching with the remaining input sequence. This process involves transforming of DNA sequence into an ASCII symbols in the first level and compress by using LZ77 compression method in the second level and after that form the grid variables with size 3 to hold the 100 characters. In the third level of compression, the compressed output is in the grid variables. Hence, the proposed algorithm S_Pattern DNA gives an average better compression ratio of 93% when compared to the existing compression algorithms for the datasets from the UCI repository.

Parturition and Morphological Development of Larvae and Juvenile in Hippocampus kuda from Korea

  • The newborn, Hippocampus kuda larvae were 6.97-8.81, standard length (SL) mm (mean 7.89 mm) and mouth and anuse were open. Dorsal fin rays 15-18 and pectoral fin-rays were counted 8 and had 10-11+21 myotomes, body's bony plate ring being developed strongly in the central axis of myotomes part. 4 days after bearing, the SL was 7.02-9.47 mm (mean 8.24 mm) and nostrils began to open. 12 days after bearing, larvae attained to 8.91-11.2 SL mm (mean 10.0 mm). From this time, their unique predation habit appeared. 21 days bearing, larvae attained to 12.1-14.8 SL mm (mean 13.4 mm) the and thorn of back was enlarged among the plate formed around ring. 41 days bearing, seahorses attained to 17.1-17.8 SL mm (mean 17.4 mm) and the number of body's bony plate ring of the top of rings trunk was 11 and on the tail of them was 33-36, similar to figure of adult.

Insulin-Like Growth Factors-1 Receptor (IGF-1R) Expression and the Phosphorylation of Endogenous Substrates Lead to Maturation of the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas

  • This study investigated the IGF-1 signal in specific tissues using Pacific oysters artificially matured via water temperature elevation. Pacific oysters were subjected to water temperature elevation from March to June, and 20 were randomly sampled each month. The condition index (CI) and tissue weight rate (TWR) were examined by measuring shell length, shell height, shell width, and soft tissue weight. The IGF-1 signal in tissues (adductor muscle, digestive glands, gills, labial palps, mantle edges, and gonads) was analyzed by sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and Western blotting. From April to June, the TWR of females and males increased from 19.1±2.9 to 21.0±3.6 and 18.2±2.0 to 19.2±2.5, respectively, while the CI remained the same. The IGF-1 signal in each tissue differed. IGF-1 was expressed in the adductor muscle, while tyrosine was expressed in all tissues. The phosphor (p)-ERK and p-AKT activities were high in the adductor muscle, mantle edge, and gonads. IGF-1 signaling affected the growth and maturity of the Pacific oysters examined.

A Highlight on Reasons for Tattoo Regrets and Removal

  • Background and Objectives As the popularity of tattooing has increased, the number of people regretting their tattoos, and therefore seeking tattoo removal services has also increased. This study aimed to highlight the reasons for tattoo regrets. We explore herein, the reasons for seeking tattoo removal at a specialized laser center in South America. Materials and Methods This is a retrospective study of over 757 surveys, including patients who sought tattoo removal services between August 2017 and February 2020. The surveys were conducted using questionnaires which were sent to the patients through email and WhatsApp messages. Results Sixty percent of the patients seeking tattoo erasing services were women (α=0.001), an average of 30 years, with a high educational level (46.6% of them were university or tertiary). Most of the tattoos (89%) had a professional origin, 60% were done with black color and 65% were in exposed areas. More than half of the patients (51%) gave dissatisfaction as the main reason for erasing their tattoos. More than half of patients (51.2%) regretted their tattoos between the same day of being tattooed and five years later. Conclusion In the present study, in South America, tattoo regrets were mostly common among educated (university or tertiary level) women in their 30s. The most preferred color for a tattoo was black. Exposed areas, especially the arms, were preferred more than the covered areas. Most of the participants regretted their tattoos within five years of being tattooed.

Genetic Variations within and between Blue Crab (Portunus trituberculatus) Groups

  • The five oligonucleotide primers (oligo-primers) turned out a total of 335 fragments (FMs) (52.9%) in the blue crab (Portunus trituberculatus) group alpha and 298 FMs (47.1%) in the crab group beta, with the FM scales range varying from 100 bp to 2,000 bp. The highest band-sharing (BS) value (0.907) was found between individual's no. 19 and no. 20 within the blue crab group beta. Parties in the blue crab group beta (0.601±0.017) had higher BS rates than did parties from the crab group alpha (0.563±0.017) (p<0.05). The polar dendrogram got by the five oligo-primers points out two genetic extents: bundle I (BLUECRAB 01, 03, 04, 05, 06, 08, and 10) and bundle II (BLUECRAB 02, 07, 09. 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22). The OPD-01 primer revealed 22 loci shared by all the examples of the as FMs of 1,000 bp. The oligo-primer OPA-05 made unique loci shared to each group (ULSEG), almost 400 bp and 500 bp, individually, in blue crab group beta. The remaining oligo-primers did not reveal any loci shared by the two crab groups (LSTG). The average number of ULSEG was diverse and 1.6-fold higher in the crab group beta than in the crab group alpha.

Re-engineering Adult Education Programme-an Online Learning Curricular Perspective

  • The Web based multimedia programmes/courses are becoming widely available in recent years. Most of these courses focus on Behaviorist way of learning, which does not promote deep learning in any way. For Adults this approach further incapacitated, as it does not satisfy Andragogical needs. The search for Constructivist way of learning through the web applied to Indian conditions led to need for developing a curriculum development approach that would promote construction of knowledge through web based collaboration. This paper attempts to reengineer existing curriculum development processes and lays out a framework of‘Problem Based Online Learning (PBOL)’curriculum design. In this context, entire curriculum development life cycle is evolved and explained. This is a part of doctoral work (Ph.D), which is in progress and being undertaken by K.James Mathai, and guided of Dr.D.S.Karaulia.
