In 1998, Kocher et al. introduced Differential Power Attack on block ciphers. This attack allows to extract secret key used in cryptographic primitives even if these are executed inside tamper-resistant devices such as smart card. At FSE 2003 and 2004, Akkar and Goubin presented several masking methods, randomizing the first few and last few($3{\sim}4$) rounds of the cipher with independent random masks at each round and thereby disabling power attacks on subsequent inner rounds, to protect iterated block ciphers such as DES against Differential Power Attack. Since then, Handschuh and Preneel have shown how to attack Akkar's masking method using Differential Cryptanalysis. This paper presents how to combine Truncated Differential Cryptanalysis and Power Attack to extract the secret key from intermediate unmasked values and shows how much more efficient our attacks are implemented than the Handschuh-Preneel method in term of reducing the number of required plaintexts, even if some errors of Hamming weights occur when they are measured.

Random scalar countermeasures, which carry out the scalar multiplication by the ephemeral secret key, against the differential power analysis of ECIES and ECDH have been known to be secure against various power analyses. However, if an attacker can find this ephemeral key from the one power signal, these countermeasures can be analyzed. In this paper, we propose a new power attack method which can do this analysis. Proposed attack method can be accomplished while an attacker compares the elliptic curve doubling operations and we use the principle component analysis in order to ease this comparison. When we have actually carried out the proposed power analysis, we can perfectly eliminate the error of existing function for the comparison and find a private key from this elimination of the error.

RSA-CRT is a widely used algorithm that provides high performance implementation of the RSA-signature algorithm. Many previous studies on each operation step have been published to verify the physical leakages of RSA-CRT when used in smart devices. This paper proposes SAED (subtraction algorithm analysis on equidistant data), which extracts sensitive information using the event information of the subtraction operation in a reduction algorithm. SAED is an attack method that uses algorithm-dependent power signal changes. An adversary can extract a key using differential power analysis (DPA) of the subtraction operation. This paper indicates the theoretical rationality of SAED, and shows that its results are better than those of other methods. According to our experiments, only 256 power traces are sufficient to acquire one block of data. We verify that this method is more efficient than those proposed in previously published studies.

As differential computation analysis attack(DCA) which is context of side-channel analysis on white-box cryptography is proposed, masking white-box cryptography based on table encoding has been proposed by Lee et al. to counter DCA. Existing higher-order DCA for the masked white box cryptography did not consider the masking implementation structure based on table encoding, so it is impossible to apply this attack on the countermeasure suggested by Lee et al. In this paper, we propose a new higher-order DCA method that can be applied to the implementation of masking based on table encoding, and prove its effectiveness by finding secret key information of masking white-box cryptography suggested by Lee et al. in practice.

In this paper, we investigate the several different types of higher-order differential side channel analysis (DSCA) attacks. We present that some of exiting higher-order DSCA attacks have some practical problem applying to two masked intermediate values being parallel processed. In order to solve this problem we propose a new higher-order DSCA attack using an efficient and simple preprocessing function. Using the proposed preprocessing function we clearly show that 2nd-order DSCA attacks are still a practical threat fur masked hardware implementations.

In the recent years, power attacks were widely investigated, and so various countermeasures have been proposed, In the case of block ciphers, masking methods that blind the intermediate values in the algorithm computations(encryption, decryption, and key-schedule) are well-known among these countermeasures. But the cost of non-linear part is extremely high in the masking method of block cipher, and so the inversion of S-box is the most significant part in the case of AES. This fact make various countermeasures be proposed for reducing the cost of masking inversion and Zakeri's method using normal bases over the composite field is known to be most efficient algorithm among these masking method. We rearrange the masking inversion operation over the composite field and so can find duplicated multiplications. Because of these duplicated multiplications, our method can reduce about 10.5% gates in comparison with Zakeri's method.

Side-channel attacks including the differential power analysis attack are often more powerful than classical cryptanalysis and have to be seriously considered by cryptographic algorithm's implementers. Various countermeasures have been proposed against such attacks. In this paper, we deal with the masking method, which is known to be a very effective countermeasure against the differential power analysis attack and propose new gate-level conversion methods between Boolean and arithmetic masks. The new methods require only 6n-5 XOR and 2n-2 AND gates with 3n-2 gate delay for converting n-bit masks. The basic idea of the proposed methods is that the carry and the sum bits in the ripple adder are manipulated in a way that the adversary cannot detect the relation between these bits and the original raw data. Since the proposed methods use only bitwise operations, they are especially useful for DPA-securely implementing cryptographic algorithms in hardware which use both Boolean and arithmetic operations. For example, we applied them to securely implement the block encryption algorithm SEED in hardware and present its detailed implementation result.
