Hybrid beamformer composed of Direction-of-Arrival (DOA) based scheme followed by Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC) is proposed to overcome the degradation due to inaccurate channel estimation caused by insufficient pilot power, which happens in conventional Single-Input Multiple-Output (SIMO) Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) reverse link. The proposed scheme could provide more accurate channel estimation and interference reduction at the expense of diversity gam in the spatially correlated SIMO channel. As a result, hybrid scheme outperforms conventional MRC beamformer for six or more antennas in the channel environment, in which Angle-of-Spread (AOS) is within 30$^{\circ}$.
Compressive Sensing (CS) has been widely studied as a promising technique in many applications. The CS theory tells that a signal that is known to be sparse in a specific basis can be reconstructed using convex optimization from far fewer samples than traditional methods use. In this paper, we apply CS technique to Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar systems which employ uniform linear arrays (ULA). Especially, we investigate the problem of finding the direction-of-arrival (DOA) using CS technique and compare the performance with the conventional adaptive MIMO techniques. The results suggest the CS method can provide the similar performance with far fewer snapshots than the conventional adaptive techniques.

In this paper, a practical quasi-optimal DOA(direction of arrival) estimator is proposed in order to develop a one-axis gimbaled ultrasonic source tracker for mobile robot applications. With help of the gimbal structure, the ultrasonic moving source tracking problem can be simply reduced to the DOA estimation. The DOA estimation is known as one of the representative long-pending nonlinear filtering problems, but the conventional nonlinear filters might be restrictive in many actual situations because it cannot guarantee the reliable performance due to the use of nonlinear signal model. This motivates us to reformulate the DOA estimation problem in the linear robust state estimation setting. Based on the assumption that the received ultrasonic signals are noisy sinusoids satisfying linear prediction property, a linear uncertain measurement model is newly derived. To avoid the DOA estimation performance degradation caused by the stochastic parameter uncertainty contained in the linear measurement model, the recently developed NCRKF (non-conservative robust Kalman filter) scheme [1] is utilized. The proposed linear DOA estimator provides excellent DOA estimation performance and it is suitable for real-time implementation for its linear recursive filter structure. The effectiveness of the suggested DOA estimation scheme is demonstrated through simulations and experiments.
Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation of space signals is a basic problem in array signal processing. DOA estimation based on the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm can theoretically overcome the Rayleigh limit and achieve super resolution. However, owing to its inadequate real-time performance and accuracy in practical engineering applications, its applications are limited. To address this problem, in this study, a DOA estimation algorithm with high parallelism and precision based on an analysis of the characteristics of complex matrix eigenvalue decomposition and the coordinate rotation digital computer (CORDIC) algorithm is proposed. For parallel and single precision, floating-point numbers are used to construct an orthogonal identity matrix. Thus, the efficiency and accuracy of the algorithm are guaranteed. Furthermore, the accuracy and computation of the fixed-point algorithm, double-precision floating-point algorithm, and proposed algorithm are compared. Without increasing complexity, the proposed algorithm can achieve remarkably higher accuracy and efficiency than the fixed-point algorithm and double-precision floating-point calculations, respectively.
Many high-resolution algorithms based on the eigen-decomposition analysis of observed covariance matrix, such as MVE, MUSIC, and EVM, have been proposed. However, the resolution of spectral estimates for these algorithms is severely degraded when Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) is low and arrival angles of signal are close to each other. And EVM and MUSIC is powerful for the characteristic of SNR. But have the limitation that the number of signals presented is known. While MVE is bad the characteristic of SNR. In this study, we propose a modified MVE to enhance the resolution for Direction-Of-Arrival (DOA) estimation of underwater acoustic signal. This is to remove the limitation that existing algorithms should know the information for the number of signals. Because the algorithms founded on the eigen value estimate DOA with only the noise subspace, they have the high-resolution characteristic. And then, with the method reducing the effect of the signal subspace, we are to reduce the degradation because of complementary relationship between the signal subspace and the noise subspace. This paper, with using the simulation data, we have estimated the proposed algorithms, compared it with other high-resolution algorithms. The simulation results show that the modified MVE proposed is accurate and has a better resolution even though SNR is low, under the same condition.

This paper proposes a quasi-optimal linear DOA (Direction-of-Arrival) estimator which is necessary for the development of a real-time robot auditory system tracking moving acoustic source. It is well known that the use of conventional nonlinear filtering schemes may result in the severe performance degradation of DOA estimation and not be preferable for real-time implementation. These are mainly due to the inherent nonlinearity of the acoustic signal model used for DOA estimation. This motivates us to consider a new uncertain linear acoustic signal model based on the linear prediction relation of a noisy sinusoid. Using the suggested measurement model, it is shown that the resultant DOA estimation problem is cast into the NCRKF (Non-Conservative Robust Kalman Filtering) problem [12]. NCRKF-based DOA estimator provides reliable DOA estimates of a fast moving acoustic source in spite of using the noise-corrupted measurement matrix in the filter recursion and, as well, it is suitable for real-time implementation because of its linear recursive filter structure. The computational efficiency and DOA estimation performance of the proposed method are evaluated through the computer simulations.
Nowadays adaptive technique allows arrays of any geometry to be used with fast direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimators designed for linear arrays. So the interpolation of data from a given antenna array onto the output of a virtual array is needed before the direction finding technique is applied to the outputs of a uniform linear virtual array (ULVA). In this paper some superresoluntion methods are used to estimate DOA by best-fit transformation matrix T under different nonuniformly spaced array.

This paper proposes a high resolution direction finding method, which is so called the 'averaged MUSIC'. This method uses a new sample array covariance matrix that consists of diagonal components obtained by taking averages of the diagonal component values of the sample covariance matrix for the MUSIC. This paper also shows that the proposed method performs higher resolced direction-of-arrival estimation than the MUSIC in such cases as low signal-to-noise ratio, closed signal sources, and limited number of sensors, based on the statistical analysis.

In this paper, a phase comparison direction finding method of circular array composed of 8 antennas considering polarization characteristics is analyzed. A broadband cavity-backed patch antenna operating in 6 ~ 12 GHz is used, and the antennas are arranged in radial direction to receive various polarization signals. For the phase comparison, widely spaced elements are used to obtain precise DOA(Direction of Arrival), and narrowly spaced elements are used to resolve ambiguity. Two dimensional direction finding is performed for ±20° in both azimuth and elevation, and the DOA error is less than 0.5° and 1.6° near the boresight and the ±15° region, respectively.

This paper describes an estimation of DOA(Direction Of Arrival) measurement system using DBF receiver with linear array antenna. This DBF receiver is composed of resistive FET mixer using low IF mettled. A radio frequency(RF), a local oscillator(LO) and ail intermediate frequency(IF) considered in this research are 2.09 GHz, 2.08 GHz and 10 MHz, respectively. This receiver is composed of a band-pass filter, a low-pass filter, a DC bias circuit. DOA measurement system is consist of linear array antenna, DBF receiver, AD control box and computer in the anechoic chamber. Receiving antenna is 4-array monopole antenna and DBF receiver is 4-Ch resistive FET mixer without amplifier. DOA algorithm is implemented using MUSIC algorithm with high resolution. We show that the results of DOA is $-30^{\circ},\;0^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$, respectively. And we know that DOA estimation error occur by antenna radiation pattern and fabrication error of antenna array.
