  • Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) is the mobile TV service based on a digital radio transmission system that provides high quality audio/video and other auxiliary data services. As users want to store the DMB content in their device to be consumed later or to be shared among users, a standardized format needs to be specified to guarantee the interoperability for the DMB contents for various devices. DMB AF (Application Format) specification defines a file format for DMB contents and services. It specifies how to combine the variety of DMB contents with associated information for a presentation in a well-defined format that facilitates storage, interchange, management, editing, and presentation of the DMB contents in protected, governed, and interoperable ways. In this paper we present our implementation of DMB AF as part of the development of DMB AF reference software. Our implementation of DMB AF is developed as the reference software for the standard specification that consists of a three applications: packager, media player, metadata browser and collection of supporting libraries used by the applications.

  • In this paper, implementation process of standard platform for T-DMB Receiver in low-cost and small-size are following: First, implement SoC for 32 bit RISC CPU and 16 bit DSP, Hardware H.264 CODEC, Post Processor or Video Display, Audio Processor, I/O Device. Second, implement Real Time OS for flexible application. Third, propose simple architecture for interface with peripheral devices using one-chip processor.

  • In this paper, the efficient implementation technique of media processing part in the terrestrial and satellite DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) receiver is presented. To implement the unified multimedia Processor of DMB receiver, we investigated the characteristic of DMB service and the functionality of each processing part in the DMB receiver. To implement the synchronization between audio and video media, we present the general method to use the reference clock of the stream in the DMB receiver. Also we present the method to handle the bit error of the received bitstream within the wireless net work for robust media processor.

  • 디지털 멀티미디어 방송(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting :DMB)는 디지털 라디오 방송 시스템에 기반으로 한 최초의 휴대용 TV 서비스이다. 최근 제 78차 MPEG 회의에서 DMB 콘텐츠에 대한 멀티미디어 응용 포맷으로 DMB MAF에 대한 논의가 진행되었다. DMB MAF는 DMB 콘텐츠에 대한 ISO 파일 포맷을 기반으로한 DMB 단말기 간의 상호운영성의 지원 및 저장을 지원하기 위한 파일포맷이다. 본 논문에서는 DMB MAF를 위한 MPEG-21 IPMP 및 REL을 이용한 보호관리 기술에 대해 설명한다.

  • Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) Multimedia Application Format (MAF) [3] specify how to combine the variety of DMB contents with associated information for a presentation in a well-defined format that facilitates interchange, management, editing, and presentation of the DMB contents. The current metadtata specification for DMB MAF [3] is based on TV-Anytime metadata tools. In this paper, we overview the general application scenarios of DMB MAF and then explore the TV-Anytime metadata tools and usage examples proposed for DMB MAF.

  • This study analyzed the properties of VHF band and suggested an efficient VHF band application plan for digital radio and UHDTV broadcasting through the experiment by the house T-DMB device in practical user environment. In order to find an efficient frequency band for digital radio broadcasting, this study examined first, to check the times of drop-out receive occurring in the audible area using a DMB/FM CAR Radio for T-DMB that has the characteristics of DAB. Second, this article explored the phenomenon of feedback loops in the same channel using a T-DMB house gap filler transmitting the signal by the same OFDM modulation scheme with UHDTV for configuring suitable SFN transmission network of the UHDTV broadcasting. Based on these experiments, this study suggested a suitable VHF band for digital radio and an efficient utilization of the VHF frequency band for the SFN network configuration of UHDTV.

  • 방송과 통신의 융합, 방송서비스의 다양화와 더불어 방송의 디지털화는 기존의 아날로그 방식에 비해 고화질 및 고음질의 방송 서비스 제공 및 타 매체와의 호환성 그리고 다양한 부가 서비스의 제공 등에 있어서 많은 이전을 제공할 수 있다. 또한, 디지털방송 방식은 기존 아날로그 방식의 이동수신 문제점을 해결하고자 디지털 오디오 방송(DAB: Digital Audio Broadcasting)에 멀티미디어 서비스를 .제공하는 디지털 멀티미디어 방송(DMB: Digital Multimedia Broadcasting)을 제안하였다. 지상파 DMB 방송은 유럽의 Eureka-147 방식의 DAB를 기반으로 하며 디지털 라디오방송과 함께 오디오 외에도 다양한 멀티미디어를 전송하고, 콘텐츠에 대화형 기능을 포함하는 서비스 형태를 목표로 하고 있다. 현재 지상파 DMB 서비스에서는 기본적인 AV 서비스를 위해 비디오는 AVC, 오디오는 BSAC에 대해 규정하고 있다. 또한 AV 규격 외에 대화형 서비스를 제공하기 위한 보조 데이터로서 장면기술 데이터와 그래픽 데이터를 지원하고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 지상파 DMB를 이용한 대화형 서비스를 제공하기 위해 요구되는 초기 객체 정보, 객체 정보, 장면 구성 정보를 바이너리 형태로 생성해 주는 MPEG-4 바이너리 컨버터를 설계하고 구현하였다.

  • In Korea, Eureka-147 DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) temporarily decided as the standard system for digital audio broadcasting was evolved into DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) to complement the technical vulnerability in mobile reception of terrestrial DTV. According to introducing video service in T-DMB (Terrestrial DMB), 'Terrestrial DMB Experimental Broadcasting for Video Service', a national project of the MIC (Ministry of Information and Communication), was done for verifying the possibility of video service via T-DMB. The main objective of the project is computing the effective field strength and coverage for making a plan to build T-DMB broadcasting network and developing transmitting and receiving equipment. In case of digital broadcasting, it is absolutely essential to measure BER (Bit Error Rate) and electric field strength in order to evaluate coverage and quality of received signal. In this paper, we implement an integrated mobile measurement system for T-DMB. For this purpose, we propose efficient data structure and algorithm for BER measurement. By adding GPS (Global Positioning System) and electric field strength measurement parts into BER measurement part, we complete the integrated mobile measurement system, and then verify it by experiments and field tests. The developed system was used in a national project, 'Terrestrial DMB Experimental Broadcasting for Video Service' and measurement results will be used as fundamental data for building T-DMB broadcasting network.

  • The birth of a new mobile medium of communication In 2005, the DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), was celebrated for the mobile and asynchronous personal medium. But now, the most film- & video-channels of this epoch-making medium of communication combine with the rebroadcasting of long play film for cinema oder TV series. The purpose of this study is thus to point out the disharmony between new mobile medium and the old, recycled contents and to propose as an alternative content the digital shortshort moving images.
