A STUDY ON THE INFLUENCE OF EPINEPHRINE CONTAINED IN DENTAL LOCAL ANESTHETIC AGENTS ON THE BLOOD SUGAR OF DIABETES DURING MINOR ORAL SURGERY (치과용 국소마취제에 포함된 Epinephrine이 당뇨 환자의 소수술시 혈당에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the number of diabetic patients have been increased with westernized living way and meal habitation. The regulation of blood sugar concentration is very important for diabetic patients to keep homeostasis and, to prevent acute or chronic complications. Epinephrine combined with lidocaine is used in dental clinic extensively. And epinephrine combined with lidocaine also effects on decreasing the blood leakage volume by constricting micro vessle and arteriole. But, So far there are few researches about the effect of epinephrine contained in dental local anesthetic agent on the blood sugar of diabetes during minor oral surgery. The purpose of this study was intended to investigate whether epinephrine which combined with dental local anesthetics influence body glucose level in diabetes patients by glucose monitoring. The subject of this study were 38 diabetic patients and 38 normal adults, each patient was checked body glucose after a meal 2 hours later with resting state, and injection 1:100000 epinephrine with dental lidocaine 54 ml or lidocaine 54 ml only. And then the body glucose level was checked 5 minutes and 30 minutes after injection. The results were analyzed by two way ANOVA test (p<0.05). The results were as follows: In the experimental group 1, the mean of the blood sugar level was 180.3 mg/dl before an anesthetic injection, 182.8 mg/dl after 5minutes of the anesthetic injection and 182.2 mg/dl after 30minutes of the anesthetic injection. The change of the blood sugar level was not statistically by two-way ANOVA tests (p<0.05). In the experimental group 2, the mean of the blood sugar level was 237 mg/dl before an anesthetic injection, 234.5 mg/dl after 5minutes of the anesthetic injection and 231.8 mg/dl after 30minutes of the anesthetic injection. The change of the blood sugar level was not statistically by two-way ANOVA tests (p<0.05). In the controlled group 1, the mean of the blood sugar level was 117.6 mg/dl before an anesthetic injection, 119.1 mg/dl after 5minutes of the anesthetic injection and 129.3 mg/dl after 30minutes of the anesthetic injection. The change of the blood sugar level was not statistically by two-way ANOVA tests (p<0.05). In the controlled group 2, the mean of the blood sugar level was 104.2 mg/dl before an anesthetic injection, 102 mg/dl after 5minutes of the anesthetic injection and 105.3 mg/dl after 30minutes of the anesthetic injection. The change of the blood sugar level was not statistically by two-way ANOVA tests (p<0.05).

Antioxidant and Physiological Activities of Coriolus versicolor Fruit Body Crude Extracts (운지버섯(Coriolus versicolor) 자실체 조 추출물의 항산화 활성 및 생리활성 연구)

  • In this research, the total polyphenol and flavonoid contents in the hot water extract (HE) and methanol extract (ME) of the Coriolus versicolor fruiting body and their partial bioactivities were investigated from March, 2015 to February, 2016. For the analysis of the data, the software used was SPSS 2.0. The results indicate that the total polyphenol content in the HE (129.60 mg/dl) was 85,8 mg/dl higher than that in the ME (43.80 mg/dl). The total flavonoid content in the HE (30.50 mg/dl) was 9.5 mg/dl higher than that in the ME (20.90 mg/dl). The DPPH scavenging activities of the HE and ME at a concentration of 3 mg/ml were 41.03% and 16.36% higher than those at a concentration of 1 mg/ml. The tyrosinase inhibitory activities of the HE and ME at a concentration of 3 mg/ml were 8.29% and 10.32% higher than those at a concentration of 1 mg/ml. The elastase inhibitory activities of the HE and ME at a concentration of 3 mg/ml were 3.12% and 21.53% higher than those at a concentration of 1 mg/ml. The collagenase inhibitory activities of the HE and ME at a concentration of 3 mg/ml were 5.44% and 4.07% higher than those at a concentration of 1 mg/ml. In conclusion, these two kinds of extracts are judged to be useful as skin wrinkle relaxants, due to their anti-oxidative and bioactive functions.

The Association of Obesity and Serum Uric acid in Korean adults (대한민국 성인에서 비만과 Uric acid의 관련성)

  • The aim of this study was to examine the impact of the obesity status on serum uric acid in health check-up examinees. The study subjects were 1,118 adults, 20 years and over (636 males, 482 females), the health package check-up at the general hospital in Gwang-Ju from January to December, 2011. This study assessed the serum uric acid, blood urea nitrogen, and creatinine levels, as well as the anthropometric variables (SBP, DBP, and BMI). In a model I, after adjusting for the variables, such as age, SBP, DBP, TC, TG, HDL-C, and FBG, the mean uric acid level ($M{\pm}SE$) increased with increasing obesity status in males (p<0.001) or females (p=0.036). In model II, after adjusting for BUN and creatinine, the mean uric acid ($M{\pm}SE$) in males increased with increasing obesity status (Normal weight [BMI <$23.0kg/m^2$], $4.89{\pm}0.07mg/dl$; overweight [BMI $23.0-24.9kg/m^2$], $5.01{\pm}0.09mg/dl$; obesity [BMI ${\geq}25.0kg/m^2$], $5.35{\pm}0.08mg/dl$) (p<0.001). In the females, however, the mean uric acid ($M{\pm}SE$) did not increase with increasing obesity status (Normal weight, $5.03{\pm}0.08mg/dl$; overweight, $5.19{\pm}0.11mg/dl$; obesity, $5.27{\pm}0.09mg/dl$) (p=0.191). In conclusion, these results suggest that an increase in obesity status is associated with an increase in the serum uric acid levels in males, but not in females.

A study on Blood pressure and Blood constituents of middle-Aged men Obesity (중년 남성 비만의 혈압 및 혈액 성상에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate blood pressure and blood constituents in middle-aged men obesity. All the measurements were taken from 1524(obese 453, control 1071) man's subjects. The body mass index BMI in obese group and control was 26.6$\pm$1.4kg/$m^2$ and 22.2$\pm$1.9kg/$m^2$ respectively. The mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure in obese group were significantly higher than control(p<0.001). The concentrations of serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and atherogenic index in obese group were 202.1$\pm$34.7mg/dl, 210.0$\pm$121.8mg/dl, 43.4$\pm$10.3mg/dl, 116.7$\pm$33.5mg/dl, 3.8$\pm$1.2, respectively. There was significance in the relation between cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL-cholesterol and BMI. The frequency of dyslipidemia (hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia) in obese group was significantly more than control(p<0.001).

Relationship between Transferable Embryos and Major Metabolite Concentrations in Holstein Donor Cows

  • This research was investigated the relationship, in high-producing Holstein donor cows, between the number of the transferable embryos and the blood serum concentrations of Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN), glucose and cholesterol, which affect the nutritional state of cows. CIDRs were inserted into the vaginas of twenty two heads of Holstein cows, regardless of estrous cycle. Superovulation was induced using folliclar stimulating hormone (FSH). For artificial insemination, donor cows were injected with $PGF_{2{\alpha}}$ and estrus was checked about 48 hours after the injection. Then they were treated with 4 straws of semen 3 times, with 12-hour intervals. Embryos were collected by a non-surgical method 7 days after the first artificial insemination. The total numbers of ova collected from 3 experimental groups whose blood BUN concentrations were <10 mg/dl, 11~18 mg/dl and ${\geq}19$ mg/dl were 8.9, 12.5 and 19.0, respectively; whereas the numbers of transferable embryos were 5.8 + 1.9, 7.9 + 2.8 and 5.2 + 1.4, respectively. When glucose concentration was <60 mg/dl, the total number of collected ova was 9.9, which was smaller than when the concentration was 60~70 mg/dl or ${\geq}70$ mg/dl. When glucose concentration was 60~70 mg/dl, the number of transferable embryos was 7.1 + 2.4, which was slightly larger than the numbers 6.4 + 2.1 and 6.1 + 1.7 that were obtained when the concentrations were <60 mg/dl and ${\geq}70$ mg/dl, respectively ; however, the differences were not significant (p>0.05). When cholesterol concentrations were <150 mg/dl, 150~200 mg/dl and ${\geq}200$ mg/dl, the total numbers of collected ova were 11.2, 11.3 and 8.6, respectively. Whereas the numbers of transferable embryos were 7.1 + 2.1, 7.3 + 1.9 and 5.6 + 1.3, respectively ; however, the differences were again not significant (p>0.05). The result of this research showed no significant difference in ovum recovery rate and the number of transferable embryos according to major metabolite concentrations in high-producing Holstein donor cows. However, it is considered that the failure of maintaining proper nutritional status would cause the fall in in vivo embryo productivity.

Quality Characteristics of Ground Pork Meat containing Hot Water Extract from Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) (민들레 열수 추출물을 첨가한 분쇄돈육의 품질 특성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of addition of dandelion leaf, root and whole part extract on the quality and sensory characteristics of ground pork meat. Four types of ground pork were evaluated: 10% ice water added (control), 10% dandelion leaf extract added (DL), 10% dandelion root extract added (DR), and dandelion whole part extract added (DW). There was no significant difference in $L^*$, $b^*$, VBN content, moisture, protein, fat and ash of raw and cooked ground pork, cooking yield, water holding capacity, moisture retention, fat retention, reduction in diameter, total free amino acid, taste, texture, juiciness, or overall acceptability. The total polyphenol content of the control, DL, DR, and DW groups were 2.07, 6.49, 3.85 and 5.77 mg/100 g, respectively. Total phenol content of DL was significantly higher than those of the other samples. The pH was highest in the control. The TBARS values of the control, DL, DR and DW were 0.52, 0.20, 0.31, and 0.24 mg MA/kg, respectively, and TBARS values of the control were significantly higher than those of the other samples. Flavor was highest in DL. We suggest that dandelion leaf extracts may be a useful ingredient in ground pork to improve color, flavor, and antioxidant potential.

An Exploratory Study on the Effects of Barley Sprout Powder Intake on Blood Lipids in Women in Their 50s: One Case Report (보리 새싹 분말 섭취가 50대 여성의 혈중지질에 미치는 효과 탐색 연구: one case 보고)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to study barley sprout powder's effect on blood lipids in women in their 50s. Methods: For 18 months of ingesting 3 grams of barley sprout powder daily, and the changes were investigated before and after the blood tests every six months. Results: The systolic blood pressure decreased from 107 mmHg for the first test to 91 for the fourth test. Diastolic blood pressure dropped from 69 mmHg to 49 mmHg at the first test. Abdominal circumference decreased from 84 cm at the first measurement to 78 cm at the fourth round. Fasting glucose and HDL were not affected. Total cholesterol was significantly refused from 264 mg/dl in the first measurement to 172 mg/dl in the fourth measurement. The first measurement of triglycerides in 2018 was 179 mg/dl, and it was highly reduced at the fourth measurements to 80 mg/dl. The first measurement of LDL was 182 mg/dl, and the fourth was a high decrease to 97 mg/ dl. Conclusions: After the women in the 50s ingesting sprout barley for 18 months, the overall improvements were shown by reducing significantly with fasting blood sugar, blood pressure, blood triglyceride, and LDL concentrations.

  • Determination of dl${\alpha}$-tocopherol and its acetate in their preparation through Infrared absorption spectrum was examined, using the sharp bands at 1085cm$^{-1}$ and 1210cm$^{-1}$ res[ectovely as the key bands. The accuracy of the determination was 100${\pm}$2% to the weight taken.

  • The determination method of l-ephedrine and dl-methylephedrine by gas chromatography was developed, using reactive alkaline precolumn packed with celite 545 containing KOH. Symmetrical peaks were achieved under the condition, inlet temperature, $180^{\circ}C$-$230^{\circ}C$; column temperature, $180^{\circ}C$- $160^{\circ}C$; carrier gas flow rate, 30ml/minute. The peaks of the salts coincided with those of bases. When this method was applied to preparations, using d-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde as inner standard, good results were obtained. The relative retention times of l-ephedrine and dl-methylephedrine to p-dimethyl aminobenzaldehyde were 0.50 and 0.65 respectively.

  • Two new orotic acid derivatives orotyl-DL-alanine and orotyl-L-tyrosine were synthesized. They were obtained as high melting crystalline masses by condensing DL-alanine and L-tyrosine each with orotyl chloride in aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, followed by acidifying the reaction mixture.
