  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to find an effective medical device to detect cold sensation of hands. Methods: Patients with cold sensation of hands (N=42) were recruited in July 2013. We surveyed patients’ general characteristics, severity of cold sensation, body temperature in Nogung (PC8) and Hyeopbaek (LU4) measured with a digital thermometer, digital infrared thermal imaging, and pulse wave velocity. Results: The relation between severity of cold sensation and temperature in Nogung (PC8) and Hyeopbaek (LU4) was statistically significant. The results showed a higher correlation of severity of cold sensation with Nogung (PC9) than with Hyeopback (LU4) temperature. No other indices were statistical significant. Conclusions: Measuring the Nogung (PC9) temperature is most reasonable for assessing the severity of cold sensation of hands. To generalize this result, however, a large-scale study is warranted.

  • In Oriental medicine, Ginseng had been used for many diseases widely. It's main effects are suppling Qi and Promoting metastasis. The objective of this study is to examine the effect of Ginseng on control of body temperature. We conducted this study with 24 volunteers who had no problem in their health from November 2002 to January 2003. The body temperature were measured by DITI and thermometer before taking Ginseng and after 30minutes of the taking Ginseng extract 15g. We observed the difference of temperature among face chest and upper abdomen. All data were coded for computer analysis and significance were tested by Paired t-test and independent-t-test. According to our study, the axillary temperature show no signifiant change between two groups. The difference of temperature$({\Delta}T)$ between face and upper abdomen significantly increase after taking Ginseng extract(p<0.01). The difference of temperature$({\Delta}T)$ between face and chest significantly increase after taking Ginseng extract(p<0.05).

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a possibility of the Korean medical treatment in patient with anterior interoseous nerve entrapment syndrome. The patient treated with acupunture, herbal medicine and Needle-embedding Therapy from April 19th to May 15th. We measured Visual Analotgue Scale(VAS), and Observed the change in body tempreture using Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging(DITI). After received Korean medical treatment, the patient showed improvement in muscle strength, sensation, VAS, temperature differential. Therefore we can consider Korean medical treatment before operation in interosseous nerve syndrome.

  • Purpose: We investigated the effect of far-infrared radiating products on cold hypersensitivity of lower limbs using CST. Methods: 7 patients with cold hypersensitivity of lower limbs were investigated in this study. Exclusive criteria was skin diseases, spinal nervous disease and external wounds. They were asked to answer the VAS of cold hypersensitivity at baseline and after 3 weeks. We measured temperature of lower limbs with Spectrum 9000 MB (Dorex Inc, USA). We performed cold stress test (CST) by 3 thermographic observation using DITI : 1st was taken after 15 minutes resting at $25^{\circ}C$, the 2nd was immediately taken after 1 minute soak in $20^{\circ}C$ water, the 3rd was taken at 15 minutes after soak. We performed 3 times of CST : 1st CST was perfomed at baseline, 2nd CST was perfomred after 1 week and just observation, 3rd CST was performed after 1 week using far-infrared radiating products (lasner, UMT, Korea). Results: After using products, temperature of foot incresed more than thigh area, but there was no significance. There was no statistical difference of VAS, change of temperature and CST between before and after using far-infrared radiating products. Conclusion: There was no statistical effect of far-infrared radiating products on change of temperature of lower limbs.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of TKM to Rhumatitis Arthritis after parturition and show the importance of recuperation after parturation. Methods: The patient was a 33-year-old woman who complains arthralgia, edema and sense of coldness after her third parturation. The patient was treated by Herb medicine, Acupuncture treatment, Moxa treatment and Physical Treatment. And the progress of symtoms was evaluated by cheking the change of VAS, and inspecting the DITI. Results: The Pain and edema have declined. After discharge, she got definite diagnosis as Rhumatitis Arthritis. But We already estimated it from the results of serum test. So we had treated the patience with TKM and we could explain the prognosis. We regulated the pain and edema successfully at the acute phase. And the patient could take care of herself, she didn't play her disease down as a simple symptoms of parturation. Conclusion: TKM is expected to have positive effect on Rheumatic arthritis with quick onset after parturation.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate effect of kinesio taping on the delayed onset muscle soreness(DOMS). Methods Fourteen healthy subjects were randomly divided into two groups; experimental group(n=7) and control group(n=7). All subjets performed eccentric exercise of knee extensor until exhausted. After 24 hours experimental group was taped with kinesio tape to the quadriceps muscle and control group was not applied. To compare with the effectiveness of kinesio taping between two groups, I measured DOMS with pain(VAS) and temperature(DITI). The data were analyzed by Independence T-test. Results: The Experimental group was not significantly different the body temperature and pain than Control group at 24 hours after exercise without taping. The Experimental group was more decreased pain and temperature than Control group at 24 hours after exercise with taping. The Experimental group was more decreased pain than Control group at 48 hours after exercise. The Experimental group was more decreased pain and temperature than Control group at 72 hours after exercise. Conclusion: Experimental group more rapidly recovered temperature and more rapidly decreased pain after apply taping than control group.

  • A 35-year-old female patient who had been paraplegic since her upper thoracic cord injury one and a half years before was presented with a syringomyelia involving C7 to T2 cord segments on follow-up magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). Her pain on the chest and bilateral axilla worsened since about 2 years after initial injury, and MRI demonstrated a progressively enlarging cystic syrinx cavity of the cervicothoracic cord. The posttraumatic syringomyelia was managed operatively by lysis of the arachnoid adhesions, myelotomy, and expansile duraplasty. Post-operatively her pain was relieved, and MRI showed decrease in size of the syrinx, and digital infrared thermographic imaging(DITI) showed diminution of the hyperthermic area on the anterior chest. In conclusion, the posttraumatic syringomyelia can be managed successfully without shunt operation. It seems apparent that expansile duraplasty is effective in controlling the posttraumatic syrinx.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to the effects of temporomandibular joint movement restriction on treatment of SCM muscle pain. Methods: The Subjects(n=20) were males(n=7) and females(n=13) that had SCM muscle pain and movement restriction at one side oftemporomandibular joint. The massage and Taping performed on the SCM muscle during 4 weeks. The measured items of SCM pain were pressure-pain scale, DITI. The measured items of temporomandibular joint movement restriction were VAS, ROM, deviation. Results: SCM muscle of pressure-pain scale is lower in ipsilateral than counterlateral, But temperature is higher in ipsilateral than counterlateral. Pressure-pain scale was statistical significance (p<0.05). After studying, the pain and temperature of SCM muscle was decreased and statistical significance(p<0.05). After studying, VAS of Temporomandibular joint was decreased, ROM was increased, deviation was decreased. All of measured items of Before and after studying found a statistical significance(p<0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that SCM muscle pain related TM joint pain and movement restriction. The patient with TM joint movement restriction that may take effect on reducing SCM muscle pain.
