Utilizing Spatial Information for Landform Analysis and Web-Based Sight-Seeing Guidance of the Natural Park -A Case Study of Kumoh Mt Province Park- (자연공원의 지형분석과 웹기반 관광안내를 위한 공간정보의 활용 -금오산 도립공원을 중심으로-)

  • For the purpose of data construction for the systematic management and sight-seeing guidance of the natural park, the Kumoh Mt. Province Park was selected as a pilot area. Digital topographic maps, thematic maps and satellite imagery covering the object area were processed and then landform analysis for elevation, slope, aspect and so on was conducted through DEM generation, and the landcover map and NDVI maP were extracted from Landsat TM data. The database was then constructed with these spatial data for GSIS. The image map was generated from IKONOS satellite data, which cover the pilot area data, with one meter resolution and also 3D visualization which was overlaid with main paths up a mountain were conducted. And the moving image files were produced along main paths up including main natural spectacular sights, cultural assets and management facilities. It is expected that the research result can be utilized as the fundamental data for re-assessing suitable land use and constructing Web-based guidance system.

Vehicle Detection Method Based on Object-Based Point Cloud Analysis Using Vertical Elevation Data (OBPCA 기반의 수직단면 이용 차량 추출 기법)

  • Among various vehicle extraction techniques, OBPCA (Object-Based Point Cloud Analysis) calculates features quickly by coarse-grained rectangles from top-view of the vehicle candidates. However, it uses only a top-view rectangle to detect a vehicle. Thus, it is hard to extract rectangular objects with similar size. For this reason, accuracy issue has raised on the OBPCA method which influences on DEM generation and traffic monitoring tasks. In this paper, we propose a novel method which uses the most distinguishing vertical elevations to calculate additional features. Our proposed method uses same features with top-view, determines new thresholds, and decides whether the candidate is vehicle or not. We compared the accuracy and execution time between original OBPCA and the proposed one. The experiment result shows that our method produces 6.61% increase of precision and 13.96% decrease of false positive rate despite with marginal increase of execution time. We can see that the proposed method can reduce misclassification.

Different Types of Active Region EUV Bright Points by Hinode/EIS

  • We have investigated seven Extreme-Ultraviolet (EUV) bright points in the active region (AR 10926) on 2006 December 2 by the EUV imaging spectrometer (EIS) onboard Hinode spacecraft. We determined their Doppler velocities and non-thermal velocities from 15 EUV spectral lines (log T=4.7-7.2) by fitting each line profile to a Gaussian function. We present the Doppler velocity map as a function of temperature which corresponds to a different height. As a result, these active region bright points show two different types of characteristics. Type 1 bright point shows a systematic increase of Doppler velocity from -68 km/s (blue shift) at log T=4.7 to 27 km/s (red shift) at log T=6.7, while type 2 bright points have Doppler velocities in the range of -20 km/s and 20 km/s. Using MDI magnetograms, we found that only type 1 bright point was associated with the canceling magnetic feature at the rate of $2.4{\times}10^{18}$ Mx/hour. When assuming that these bright points are caused by magnetic reconnection and the Doppler shift indicates reconnection out flow, the pattern of the Doppler shift implies that type 1 bright point should be related to low atmosphere magnetic reconnection. We also determined electron densities from line ratio as well as temperatures from emission measure loci using CHIANTI atomic database. The electron densities of all bright points are comparable to typical values of active regions (log Ne=9.9-10.4). For the temperature analysis, the emission loci plots indicate that these bright points should not be isothermal though background is isothermal. The DEM analysis also show that while the background has a single peak distribution (isothermal), the EUV bright points, double peak distributions.

Some Considerations on the Distinct Element Modelling for the Stability Analysis of a Tunnel in a Jointed Rock Mass (절리암반내 터널의 안정성 평가를 위한 개별요소 모델링에 대한 고찰)

  • This paper presents the proposed methods of DE (distinct element) modelling to estimate the stability of tunnels in jointed rock masses. First, the criterion to select the joint set(s) contributed to the discontinuous behaviour in a tunnel section is proposed. Selected joint set(s) is(are) considered to form the edges of distinct elements (rock blocks) and the others to modify the elastic properties of rock blocks. The complex DE model with the average and the deviation of joint orientation and joint length for each joint set was compared to the simple model with only the average of joint orientation and the assumption that joint length is infinite. As a result, the latter is suitable to the purpose of tunnel design because it can show the consistent behaviour of a jointed rock mass such as the locally discontinuous failure and the global anisotropic behaviour.

The Analysis of Flooding by Virtual Flood Scenario (가상 홍수시나리오에 의한 홍수범람 해석)

  • A virtual flood scenario has been constructed to investigate the overflowing process in the flooding area. The topography is constructed using the airborne LIDAR data. In addition, the frequency and scale of the flooding and the destruction condition of the flooding defensive structure are used as input to the scenarios. Through the scenario, the inundation depth with respect to time and maximum depth has been analyzed. This analysis shows the water level variation with time which show the flooding process. Moreover, a flooding map is drawn using the results from the scenario, distribution of the defensive structure, vulnerable area, and expected destruction points in the study area. It is expected that this study can be effectively used to examine the flooding process and flood disaster management. Furthermore, it could provide important basic information for the land development and the city planning of a possible flooding area.

  • The purpose of this research was to propose housing estate planning that applies 3D spatial information to DAS housing estate planning program and to enhance applicability of 3D spatial analysis. In addition, this research evaluated the applicability of 3D spatial information to site planning of Korea Land and Housing Corporation and developed models for the purpose of applying the spatial information efficiently. Moreover, we tested applicability of LiDAR that can allow 3D spatial information to be more efficient and accurate. The results from cross section analysis implies that LiDAR has higher usability than existing geographic information. Additionally, this study shaded light on the suggested system development model that can simulate location or height of an apartment house by spatially analyzing difference between before-and-after site development.

A Study on the Ultimate End Bearing Capacity of Drilled Shafts in Rocks (암반에 설치된 현장타설말뚝의 극한선단지지력에 관한 연구)

  • The end bearing capacity of rock-socketed drilled shafts under axial loading is investigated by Hoek-cell tests and a numerical analysis. From the test results, it was found that the ultimate end bearing capacity ($q_{max}$) was influenced by pile diameter, rock mass modulus and the spacing of discontinuity. A new ultimate end bearing capacity method is proposed by taking end bearing capacity influence factors, including rock mass discontinuity, based on field data. Through comparisons with other field data, the proposed $q_{max}$ method represents a definite improvement in the prediction of ultimate end bearing capacity of rock-socketed drilled shafts.

  • Usually in flood flow problems, one-dimensional approach does not provide the required details of complex flow phenomena such as the flow in braided rivers and river junction. In this study, two-dimensional finite element mesh is constructed using DEM and GIS tool, and applied to RMA-2model. The purpose of this study is to investigate the applicability of the two dimensional model in natural rivers and to analyze characteristics of river flow due to the change of cross section. For model calibration, the result of unsteady flow analysis was compared with the observed data. Accordingly, the SMS model in this study prove to be very effective and reliable tool for the simulation of hydrodynamic characteristics under the various flow conditions.

  • The river management in Korea had been focused on line based 2D spatial data for the developing river management application system. In this study, the polygon based 3D spatial data such as aerial photos and satellite images were selected and used through comparing their resolution levels for the river environment management. In addition, 1m detailed DEM (Digital Elevation Model) was constructed to implement the real topography information around river so that the damage area scale could be extracted for flood disaster. Also, the social environment thematic maps such as a cadastral map or land cover map could be used to verify the real damage area scale by overlay analysis on aerial photos or satellite images. The construction of these spatial data makes possible to present the real surface information and extract quantitative analysis to support the scientific decision making for establishing the river management policy. For the further study, the lidar surveying data will be considered as the very useful data by offering the real height information of riverbed as the depth of river so that flood simulation can give more reality.

Analysis of future flood inundation change in the Tonle Sap basin under a climate change scenario

  • In this study, the future flood inundation changes under a climate change were simulated in the Tonle Sap basin in Cambodia, one of the countries with high vulnerability to climate change. For the flood inundation simulation using the rainfall-runoff-inundation (RRI) model, globally available geological data (digital elevation model [DEM]; hydrological data and maps based on Shuttle elevation derivatives [HydroSHED]; land cover: Global land cover facility-moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer [GLCF-MODIS]), rainfall data (Asian precipitation-highly-resolved observational data integration towards evaluation [APHRODITE]), climate change scenario (HadGEM3-RA), and observational water level (Kratie, Koh Khel, Neak Luong st.) were constructed. The future runoff from the Kratie station, the upper boundary condition of the RRI model, was constructed to be predicted using the long short-term memory (LSTM) model. Based on the results predicted by the LSTM model, a total of 4 cases were selected (representative concentration pathway [RCP] 4.5: 2035, 2075; RCP 8.5: 2051, 2072) with the largest annual average runoff by period and scenario. The results of the analysis of the future flood inundation in the Tonle Sap basin were compared with the results of previous studies. Unlike in the past, when the change in the depth of inundation changed to a range of about 1 to 10 meters during the 1997 - 2005 period, it occurred in a range of about 5 to 9 meters during the future period. The results show that in the future RCP 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios, the variability of discharge is reduced compared to the past and that climate change could change the runoff patterns of the Tonle Sap basin.
