  • GCPs (Ground Control Points) are needed to correct the DEM (Digital Elevation Model) produced from high-resolution satellite images and the RPC (Rational Polynomial Coefficient). It is difficult to acquire the GCPs through field surveys such as GPS surveys and to read the image coordinates corresponding to the GCPs. In addition, GCPs cannot cover the entire image of the test site, and the RPC correction results may be influenced by the arrangement and distribution of the GCPs in the image. Therefore, a new method for the RPC correction is needed. In this study, an LHD (Least-squares Height Difference) DEM matching method was applied using previous DEMs: SRTM DEM, digital map DEM, and corrected IKONOS DEM. This was carried out to correct the DEM produced from KOMPSAT-3 satellite images and the provided RPC without GCPs. The IKONOS DEM had the highest accuracy, and the height accuracy was about ${\pm}3m$ RMSE in a mountainous area and about ${\pm}2m$ RMSE in an area with only low heights.

  • The SAR payload of the KOMPSAT-5 is equipped with an X-band (9.66GHz) microwave-based sensor. Especially, since it has a fixed antenna that can be electronically steered with respect to the azimuth and elevation planes, various applications are expected. This study evaluates the production performance and the accuracy of the DEM by producing DEM using the HR and UH mode images of KOMPSAT-5. To evaluate the production performance of the DEM, the sensitivity of DEM was assessed through a baseline analysis and $2{\pi}$ ambiguity; it was found to have good production performance. In addition, to evaluate the accuracy of the produced DEM, 30 check points were compared with SRTM data. As a result, STDEV ${\pm}15-20m$ accuracy was obtained. If the accuracy of the DEM is improved by adjusting the parameters of the filtering method or phase unwrapping method in the future, it will be possible to widely use the KOMPSAT-5 image for environmental and disaster monitoring.

  • The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) obtained elevation data on a near-global scale to generate the most complete high-resolution digital topographic database of Earth. SRTM consisted of a specially modified radar system that flew onboard the Space shuttle SRTM consisted of a specially modified radar system that flew onboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour during an 11-day mission on February 2000. Since 2004, in a GLCF (Global Land Cover Facility, http;//glcf.umiacs.umd.edu/) web-site, products of SRTM including 1Km and 90m resolutions for outside US and a 30m resolution for the US have been provided. This study is to assess the accuracy of SRTM-DEM in comparing with NGIS-DEM generated from NGIS digital topographic map(1:25,000) in Guem river watershed. For the Geum river watershed, SREM-DEM elevation ranged from 0 to 1,605m and NGIS-DEM ranged from 6 to 1,610m, and the average elevation of SRTM-DEM was 226.7m and 218.9m for NGIS-DEM, respectively. NGIS-DEM was subtracted from SRTM in three zones -Zone I (0~100m), Zone II (100~400m), Zone III (over 400m)- to estimate difference between SRTM and NGIS-DEM. As the results, the differences of these DEM were 5.2m (11.6%) in Zone I, 8.8m (3.8%) in Zone II, 12.5m (2.1%) in Zone III. Although there were differences between SRTM-DEM and NGIS-DEM, SREM-DEM would be possible to be utilized as DEM data for the region where DEM is not prepared.

  • Research of accurate DEM generation using images of Kompsat-2 is not enough. This paper focused on generation of accurate Kompsat-2 DEM and comparison with DEM from common software like PCI Geomatica and ENVI. For Kompsat-2 DEM generation, we applied orbit-attitude sensor modeling technique and matching method based on epipolarity and image geometry. The comparison of performance with each commercial programs made a qualitative experiment through naked eyes and a quantitative experiment with USGS DTED. The accuracy was judged by the average absolute error and RMS error with DIED. The result of comparison experiment, we could confirm that the method used in the experiment showed much better performance than DEM made from other commercial programs in most of images.

  • In relation to digital elevation model(DEM) production using high resolution satellite imagery, existing studies present that DEM accuracy differently show according to land cover property. This study therefore proposes auto-selection method of window size for correlation matching according to land cover property of IKONOS Geo-level stereo image. For this, land cover classified image is obtained by IKONOS color image with four bands. In addition, correlation-coefficients are computed at regular intervals in pixels of the window-search area to shorten of matching time. As the results, DEM by the proposed method showed more accurate than DEM using the fixed window-size matching. We estimate that accuracy of the proposed DEM improved more than DEM by digital map and ERDAS in agricultural land.

  • It was pointed out that the terrain distortion of SAR image is even worse than that of optical image although SAR imagery has the advantages of being independent of solar illumination and weather conditions. It is thus necessary to correct terrain distortion in SAR image for various application areas to integrate SAR and optical image information. There has to be a clear evaluation of terrain correction of high resolution SAR image according to the quality of DEM because the DEM of study site is generally used in the process of terrain correction. To achieve this issue, this paper compared the effects of quality of Digital Elevation Model(DEM) in the process of terrain correction of high resolution SAR images, using the DEM produced from 1:5000 topographic contour maps, LiDAR DEM, ASTER GDEM, SRTM DEM. We used TerraSAR-X and Cosmo-SkyMed, as the test data set, which are constructed on the same X-band SAR system as KOMPSAT-5. In order to evaluate quantitatively the correction results, we conducted comparative evaluation with the KOMPSAT-2 ortho image of the same region. The evaluation results showed that the DEM produced from 1:5000 topographic contour maps achieved successful results in the terrain correction of SAR image compared with the other DEM data, and the widely used SRTM DEM data in various applications was not suitable for the terrain correction of high resolution SAR images.

  • The new discrete elements method (DEM) is applied to the one-group neutron transport equation in one-dimensional slab geometry. The fixed source and the criticality problems are treated and three spatial differencing schemes (the DD, the SC, -and the LC schemes) are tested to determine the most computationally efficient in the DEM. In all cases, the accuracy of the results obtained from the DEM shows an improvement over that obtained from the standard discrete ordinates calculations. And the LC scheme gives the most accurate results in the DEM.

  • A Stereo matching has been an important tool for reconstructing three dimensional terrain. In this stereo matching process, DEM(Digitai Elevation Map) can be generated by the disparity from reference image to target image. Generally disparity map in matching process can be implemented by wraping from reference image to target image and if the role of reference and target is interchanged, the different DEM can be obtained. To evaluate the generated DEM from matching process, We adapted the Photorealistic synthetic image generator using ray tracing technique. The generator produce two simulated image from previous DEM and Ortho-image which is regard as Ground-truth. In this paper, we are concern about estimating more accurate DEM from these two DEMs. The several fusion methods of two DEMs are proposed to generate accurate DEM and compared with previous method. one of fusion methods is by using Cross-Correlation match score and the true DEM should have a high matching score.

  • Increasing number and acquisition rate of satellite imagery promoted researches related with DEM generation based on satellite imagery. SPOT image gave us advantage to generate DEM which covers wide area of $60km{\times}60km$. In the case of rigorous sensor model of SPOT imagery, ephemeris data and several ground control points are need and requires arduous computational costs to produce DEM. In this study, using alternative sensor model based on Direct Linear Transform, we generated DEM using small number of ground control points. As a result, it was possible to acquire the DEM with suitable accuracy.
