Floating Power Supply Based on Bootstrap Operation for Three-Level Neutral-Point-Clamped Voltage-Source Inverter

  • This paper presents a survey of floating power supply based on bootstrap operation for three-level voltage-source inverters. The floating power supply for upper switches is achieved by the bootstrap capacitor charged during on-time of the switch underneath. Hence, a large number of bulky isolated DC/DC power supplies for each gate driver are reduced. The Pspice simulation results show the behavior of bootstrap devices and the performance of bootstrap capacitor voltage.

Simulation study of a regenerative inverter for absorption of regenerative energy in a DC traction substation (도시철도직류변전소의 회생전력 흡수를 위한 회생인버터 시뮬레이션)

  • In DC traction substation with 12-pulse diode rectifiers, the DC line voltage tends to rise above noload voltage because it can't absorb the regenerative power caused by electric brakes of train. To solve this problem, an IGBT regenerative inverter should be installed and recycles the surplus regenerative power by delivering it. to the supply grid. In this paper, the DC traction substation equipped with a IGBT regenerative inverter is studied using computer simulation. Matlab/simulink is used to simulate the operation of regenerative inverter which injects the regenerative power into the supply grid and stabilizes the DC line voltage. It is confirmed that the high quality regenerative power is delivered to the supply grid thorough computer simulation.

  • This paper deals with regenerative energy in railway system which one of the largest customer in terms of load capability. Unlike the other loads of power system, loads of railway systems change in time and space. It has a characteristic amount of generating regenerative energy by frequent starting and braking in railway system. Therefore, it is expected higher utilization in railway system than the other systems. The purpose of DC power supply simulation is analyzing backed energy, regenerative energy by each railway vehicle and substation. In this paper, regenerative energy utilization are analyzed using DC power supply simulation and it is performed changing major influence on the design such as the number of installing absorber, internal resistance value, no-load voltage value at substation or operating parameters at regenerative energy utilization. After simulating, results are compared and analyzed.

  • A noble polarity inversion dc/dc power conversion circuit that has the high input-output voltage conversion ration characteristics is presented for high voltage DC power supply applications. The proposed circuit features the reduced voltage stresses of the component compared to those of the conventional ones. The operational principles of the proposed circuit is analyzed and comparative features are presented. The simulation results and experimental results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed circuit.

  • Currently, power conversion system which converts AC to DC Power is applied in domestic urban railway. The diode rectifier is used in most of them. However the diode rectifier can not control the output voltage and can not regenerate power as well. On the other hand, PWM (pulse width modulation) converter using IGBT (isolated gate bipolar transistor) can control output voltage, allowing it to reduce the output voltage drop. Moreover the Bi-directional conduction regenerates power which does not require additional device for power regeneration control. This paper compared the simulation results for the DC power supply system on both the diode rectifier and the PWM converter. Under the same load condition, simulation circuit for each power supply system was constructed with the PSIM (performance simulation and modeling tool) software. The load condition was set according to the resistance value of the currently operating impedance of light rail line, and the line impedance was set according to the distance of each substations. The train was set using a passive resistor. PI (proportional integral) controller was applied to regulate the output voltage. PSIM simulation was conducted to verify that the PWM Converter was more efficient than the diode rectifier in DC Traction power supply system.

  • The advance of traction motor control technology and the complexity of the traction power supply system makes the simulation essential in determining the dimension of the traction power supply system. The conventional method, use of the simplified and/or empirical equations, becomes inadequate in optimization of the design. The simulator presented in this paper is a numerical time based simulator running on a PC. The input to the simulator includes the track data, the train characteristic, network data and operating data. Basically the simulator conducts train running simulation and loadflow study repeatedly. The principle algorithms and its output is discussed in the paper.

  • This study proposes a AC/DC railway vehicle control algorithm that enables simultaneous driving of AC and DC power supply sections. In the Seoul metropolitan region, trolley voltage for railway vehicle is divided into AC and DC power supplies. Therefore, AC/DC railway vehicle algorithm is essential for driving on the outskirts of the region. This study analyzes resonance and beat phenomena for simultaneously running in AC and DC power supply sections, and proposes a control algorithm for railway vehicles with the application of damping and beatless controls based on this analysis. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified by simulation and analysis of actual driving results.

  • Generally, high frequency switching DC-DC converter that DC power supply for discharge lamp drive to generate ultraviolet rays(UV) is acted by hard switching mode is used. Therefore in this paper, wish to mix first existent first-side status phase shift PWM DC-DC converter and posing secondary-side status phase shift PWM DC-DC converter by high frequency link DC-DC converter that use soft switching circuit technology and develop DC power supply for discharge lamp drive. DC power supply driving Discharge lamp proposed describe validity through simulation and an experiment.
