  • Nowadays, the IoT portable electronic devices have become more useful and diverse, so they require various supply voltage levels to operate. This paper presents a DC-DC buck converter with pulse width modulation (PWM) for portable electronic devices. The proposed step-down DC-DC converter consists of passive elements such as capacitors, inductors, and resistors and an integrated chip (IC) for signal control to reduce power consumption and improves ripple voltage with the resolution. The proposed DC-DC converter is simulated and analyzed in PSPICE circuit design platform, and implemented on the prototype PCB board with a Texas Instruments LM5165 IC. The proposed buck converter is showed 92.6% of peak efficiency including a load current range of 4-10 mA, 3.29 mV of the voltage ripple at 5 V output voltage for the supply voltage 12 V. Measured and Simulated power efficiency are made good agreement with each other.

  • Rack-level DC power supply is the optimal technology for providing DC power to a volume server without any power infrastructure changes in an existing AC data center. In this paper, we propose a smartly controllable and monitorable DC rack power system. The proposed system improves power efficiency by changing the power distribution architecture of a conventional method in the rack. We developed an optimal power control method in multipower modules to provide high efficiency at low loads. In addition, the proposed system provides real-time web monitoring of the rack power and environment around a rack. In our experiments, the proposed system improved the power efficiency by over 10% compared to an AC power system providing N+1 redundant power and power monitoring.

  • The design and performance analysis of a power factor corrected (PFC), single-phase, single switch flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter is carried out for low power battery charging applications. The proposed configuration of the flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter consists of only one switch and operates in discontinuous current mode (DCM), resulting in simplicity in design and manufacturing and reduction in input current total harmonic distortion (THD). The design procedure of the flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter is presented for the battery charging application. To verify and investigate the design and performance, a simulation study of the flyback buck-boost converter in DCM is performed using the PSIM6.0 platform. A laboratory prototype of the proposed single switch flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter is developed and test results are presented to validate the design and developed model of the system.

  • This paper presents a nonlinear method to control a DC-DC converter and track the Maximum Power Point (MPP) of a Photovoltaic (PV) system. A backstepping controller is proposed to regulate the voltage at the input of a buck-boost converter by means of Lyapunov functions. To make the control initially faster and avoid local maximum, a regression plane is used to estimate the reference voltages that must be obtained to achieve the MPP and guarantee the maximum power extraction, modifying the conventional Perturb and Observe (P&O) method. An experimental platform has been designed to verify the validity and performance of the proposed control method. In this platform, a buck-boost converter has been built to extract the maximum power of commercial solar modules under different environmental conditions.

  • Stabilized tracking platform in a missile consisting of a flat planar antenna, pitch/yaw gimbals, gear trains, and current controlled DC drive motors for pitch and yaw gimbal must have a capability to track a target as an inertial sensor in the presence of missile body motion such as maneuvering and vibration. Because of this reason, tracking a target from dynamic platform requires a servo architecture that includes a outer tracking loop(position loop) and inner rate loop that stabilizes the line of sight(LOS). This paper presents a gimbaled platform model including nonlinear phenomena due to viscous and Coulomb friction based on experimental data and torque equilibrium equation, the design concept for the inner tacholoop having P controller structure ...

  • DC bias will cause abnormal vibration of transformers. Aiming at such a problem, transformer vibration affected by DC bias has been studied combined with transformer core and winding vibration mechanism use multi-physical field simulation software COMSOL in this paper. Furthermore the coupling model of electromagnetic-structural force field has been established, and the variation pattern of inner flux density, distribution of mechanical stress, tension and displacement were analyzed based on the coupling model. Finally, an experiment platform has been built up which was employed to verify the correctness of model.

  • Facing the current hikes of labor wage and high oil price, it is needed to have energy-saving machinery which also enables us precise farm operations. Thus, it was necessary to develop a safe machine which allows secure and pleasant works along orchard slopes. In this study, a lifting utility with balance-controlled platform was developed. The platform utility could maintain to level the workbench while driving along slopes. Even the machine body was driven at the tilt angle ranges of ${\pm}20^{\circ}$, the platform bench could be maintained within ${\pm}0.5^{\circ}$ of a gimbal angle. In addition, the machine lifted up to 2.0 m using an electric-hybrid driving mechanism with a low noise. A tandem hybrid power source was developed with a DC 72 V, 100 AH for the Deep-Cycle batteries, charged with 3.5 kW gasoline generator as an auxiliary power source. HST, which is one of the CVT's, was adopted as a transmission device, and a crawer track was used for the safety of the vehicle against tip-over. The maximum lifting height of platform was is 2,500 mm, and the maximum extendable width was 2,900 mm.

  • In this paper, we propose a black ice detection platform framework using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). To overcome black ice problem, we introduce a real-time based early warning platform using CNN-based architecture, and furthermore, in order to enhance the accuracy of black ice detection, we apply a multi-scale dilation convolution feature fusion (MsDC-FF) technique. Then, we establish a specialized experimental platform by using a comprehensive dataset of thermal road black ice images for a training and evaluation purpose. Experimental results of a real-time black ice detection platform show the better performance of our proposed network model compared to conventional image segmentation models. Our proposed platform have achieved real-time segmentation of road black ice areas by deploying a road black ice area segmentation network on the edge device Jetson Nano devices. This approach in parallel using multi-scale dilated convolutions with different dilation rates had faster segmentation speeds due to its smaller model parameters. The proposed MsCD-FF Net(2) model had the fastest segmentation speed at 5.53 frame per second (FPS). Thereby encouraging safe driving for motorists and providing decision support for road surface management in the road traffic monitoring department.

  • Platform Screen Door, PSD, is a device that seeks to prevent accidents with regards to falling off the platform and getting trapped between the trains, achieve improvements on the cleanliness of the air, address the accessibility issue of the disabled and the elderly and provide fresher environment on the platform in general. This is achieved by preventing health hazards and accidents from occurring through installation of fixed and moving doors between rail, tram and subway platforms and the railway. Domestic firms have achieved domestic production to a large degree in various Control Units including the Overall Control Unit and RF devices through investments in technology. Despite this, full domestic production of the core of the PSD system, Door Control Unit, DCU, is not yet achieved, having to install PSDs in a relatively short period of time. Currently, controllers with DC motors are developed for installation or one is faced with having to import foreign produced controllers. In this research, the control unit prototype using the BLDC motor was domestically produced. The performance of the control unit was rigorously tested through installation on Eun-Ha Rail on Wol-Mi Island.
