Expansion of Operating Mode of 3-Phase Quasi-Resonant DC Link Inverter (3-Phase Quasi-Resonant Inverter의 동작모드 확장)

  • This paper describes a 3-Phase Quasi-Resonant DC Link Inverter (3-phase QRI), which has two operating modes, ie. inverting mode and rectifying mode. First the 3-Phase QRI is simplified and the resonant circuit is analyzed in comparison with two resonant DC-to-DC converters. This analysis shows that the maximum voltage of resonant capacitor is limited to twice the input voltage irrespective of operating modes. A new simple control method in rectifying mode is suggested, which does not require any other element in power circuit. The characteristic of 3-Phase Quasi Resonant Inverter has been verified by simulation using the proposed control method.

  • In this paper, we present a new SVPWM strategy for a 3-level inverter. This SVPWM method is easily implemented without switching table like SVPWM. In addition, with proposed method, we can also keep the voltage balancing of DC-link capacitors and guarantee minimum on/off time of the devices. The principle of the proposed SVPWM method is described in detail, and its implementation method is also proposed. The usefulness of the proposed SVPWM method is verified through the simulation using MATLAB/Simulink.

  • Large aluminium electrolytic capacitors are widely used in inverter systems for smoothing dc-link voltage. If capacitors in dc-link are deteriorated by ageing, dc-link voltage is fluctuated by lessened capacitance and their bodies are heated by raised ESR(equivalent serial resistance) and finally system faults can be occurred. In this paper, on-load ageing test method of electrolytic capacitor in inverter system is proposed and test results are shown.

  • It is very important to maintain the balanced output voltage waveforms under the unbalanced DC-link voltages in the four-switch three-phase inverter(FSTPI). In this paper, the improvement of output voltage waveforms is proposed with the aid of DC-link voltage ripple estimation. The proposed method can be implemented without the additional voltage sensor. The proposed method applied to the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is simulated and experimented in order to verify its feasibility.

  • Grid voltage variation is usually happened but existing PV inverter dose not consider this variation before inverting into AC power. This inverting is a cause of unnecessary losses. This paper proposes that DC-link should be changed for removing those losses. Furthermore, maximum efficiency tracking control algorithm with variable DC-link voltage is proposed and verified by simulation and experiment.

  • The three-phase four-leg voltage source inverter (VSI) topology can be an interesting option for the three phase-four wire system. With an additional leg, this topology can handle the neutral current, hence the DC link capacitance can be reduced significantly. In this paper the three dimensional space vector modulation (3D SVM) in ${\alpha}{\beta}{\gamma}$ coordinates for the three-phase four-leg VSI is presented. By using the 3D SVM method, the DC link voltage can be reduced by 16% compared with the split DC link capacitor topology and the output distortion can also be reduced under the unbalanced load condition.

  • A predictive current control technique for an induction motor employing a resonant DC link inverter is proposed to overcome the disadvantage of the current regulated delta modulation(CRDM) which was employed to control the resonant DC link inverter. The discrete model of an induction motor and estimation of back EMF are investigated and a novel predictive current control technique is newly developed based on this discrete model and estimated back EMF. Using the proposed control technique, the minimized current ripple with reduced offset can be obtained. The usefulness of the proposed technique is verified through the computer simulation.

  • This paper presents a circuit of the quasi-resonant DC link to achieve soft-switching three phase inverter using intelligent IGBT power module. The soft-switching operation in this circuit is confirmed simulation and experimental results. Its conductive noise is measured for electrical AC motor drive as compared with that of the conventional hard switching inverter.

  • This study proposes an isolation amplifier circuit for the sensing and feedback of inverter DC-link voltage, which is inevitable for the precise control of inverter output voltage. The isolation amplifier consists of a pulse-width modulator and a pulse transformer with dual secondary windings. The accuracy of the proposed circuit depends on the precise matching of filter parameters in dual secondary circuits. The influences of parameter inaccuracy on the amplifier performances are analyzed. A modified circuit is proposed to reduce the dependency on filter parameters. The validity of the proposed method is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • This paper presents a simple circuit topology of the auxiliary active quasi-resonant DC link snubber-assisted three phase voltage source soft-switching inverter for small scale PM motor drive applications. The pulse processing drive circuit interface and its soft-switching operation are discussed from an experimental point of view. Moreover, its conductive noise is measured and evaluated for electrical AC servo motor drive as compared with that of the conventional hard switching inverter.
