HEP(Head Electric Power) system, supplying 3-phase service power to the coach vehicles, is a kind of special auxiliary power equipment which is boarded on 8200 series electric locomotives in KORAIL. This equipment shares high voltage DC link with a main propulsion converter/inverter systems. It was difficult to use high frequency PWM technique so that GTO has been used as a power device same like the main power system. Due to low PWM frequency(300Hz) of HEP inverter, the output voltage has less power quality comparing to normal SIV(Static Inverter) system. In this paper, an optimal PWM strategy is presented for new IGBT type HEP inverter system. Several PWM techniques were investigated to improve output voltage quality under fixed lower filter inductance and not high PWM frequency. Finally PC simulations have been done to clarify its availability.

This paper proposes a mode transition algorithm between the grid-tied and the stand-alone operations for the single-phase inverter with the energy storage system. For the grid-tied operation, the dc-link voltage and the output current are required to be control. For the stand-alone mode, both the output voltage and the output current should be regulated. In order to mitigate a falling-off in control performance during transients in mode change, the load power estimation and the current selection schemes are proposed. The proposed method allows an optimized current reference is selected to reduce an output voltage drop and an excessive over-current in transient. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, both the simulation and the experiments for a 3kW single-phase inverter with the energy storage system have been conducted. From the results, it has been confirmed that the proposed method reduces a transient error as well as implementing smooth mode transition.
This paper proposes a compensation method to improve the distorted space vectors when a 3-level Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) inverter has an unbalanced neutral point voltage. Since both the neutral point voltage of the DC link and the space vector of a 3-level NPC inverter are closely related depending on the output load connecting state, a distorted space vector can occur when the neutral point voltage of a 3-level NPC inverter is unbalanced. The proposed method can improve the distorted space vectors by adjusting the injection time of the small and medium vectors and by modulating the amplitude of the carrier waveforms. In this paper, the proposed method is verified by both simulation and experimental results based on a 3-level NPC inverter.
Grid-connected bidirectional PCS(Power Conditioning System) technology is a technology for implementing distributed renewable energy smart grid. And it is always charged by using power collected from solar modules and commercial grid power among vast smart grid systems, and stored when needed. It is a hybrid energy storage device that allows power to be released into the low voltage system. To this end, a PV input power converter with MPPT function, a bidirectional power converter for battery charging and discharging, and a DC Link input are output to a 3 phase 380V AC system, and if nessary, the bidirectional DC/DC converter We designed and developed a PCS with three power converter structures composed of inverters that perform battery charging. Currently, this system is applied to the site of Jeju, which is vulnerable to power outages and fire accidents.

The parallel operation of voltage source inverters using stator windings of high power three-phase induction motors was proposed in this paper. Most current high power induction motors with more than 4 electric poles have their external terminals installed so that windings of each phase can be approached from the outside. High power induction motors can be driven by parallel-operating several voltage source inverters through these external terminals. This way, in case a certain inverter breaks down, the operation torque will get decreased but the system can maintain its operation with the other inverters, so it can cope more effectively with breakdowns. Moreover, by providing phase difference to the switching movements of each inverter, it can increase equivalent switching frequency, which helps achieve good characteristics such as the reduction in the ripple of output torque, the reduction in the ripple of input current, and the reduction in the size of DC capacitors. Besides, since power is divided into each inverter, it can also decrease the ifluence of EMI occurring in the system. The characteristics of the proposed method were proved through computer simulations in this paper.
The paper identifies a severe form of core saturation instability in an DC/AC interaction system. It then seeks solutions to the problem by HVDC control means. This is achieved by a proper design of the Voltage Dependent Current Order Limiter (VDCOL), the Current Regulator and Timing Pulse generator. Supplementary control loops have also been introduced to result in a satisfactory performance as compared to that obtained one with the use of uncharacteristic harmonic filter on the AC side. Robustness of all the options has been demonstrated through recovery performance of the DC link in response to both I-phase and 3-phase 5 cycle faults on both rectifier and inverter commutating buses.
This paper presents a novel method to detect the rotor position of the BrushLess DC(BLDC) motor at standstill and a start-up method to accelerate the rotor up to a certain speed where the conventional position sensorless control methods based on the back EMF could work reasonably The proposed initial rotor position estimation method is suitable to avoid the temporary reverse rotation or the starting failure. This method can be implemented using only one current sensor at DC link of the inverter. It does not depend on the model of the motor , and it is robust to motor parameter variations. By the proposed method, it is demonstrated experimentally that a stable starting can be achieved even with severe mechanical disturbance.
