The present work is concerned with the switching conduction characteristics of PI LB films in metal insulator metal sandwiches. By applying various DC voltage bias to MIM junctions, conduction characteristics of junctions can be changed between the high-voltage low-current(off) condition, the low-voltage high-current (on) condition and the medium(mid) condition. Switching conduction characteristics can be also observed in MIM junctions employing some aromatic compounds as insulators. Switching conduction characteristics is assumed to be owing to the existence of aromatic rings, space charge in films, impurities on metal-insulator interface, and difference in work functions of base and top electrodes metal. To study the conduction process of on, off, and mid conductions, we measured I-V, d$^{2}$V/d I$^{2}$-V characteristics of junctions with several different top electrodes under various temperatures. Small conductance changes of junctions can be measured by observing the second derivative, d$^{2}$V/dI$^{2}$, of I-V curve. A dynamical technique is used to get the second derivatives. That is, a finite modulation of the current is applied to the junctions and the second harmonic of the voltage is detected.

The growth of nanocrystalline diamond films on a p-type poly silicon substrate was studied using microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition method. A 6 mm thick poly silicon plate was mirror polished and scratched in an ultrasonic bath containing slurries made of 30 cc ethanol and 1 gram of diamond powders having different sizes between 5 and 200 nm. Upon diamond deposition, the specimen scratched in a slurry with the smallest size of diamond powder exhibited the highest diamond particle density and, in turn, fastest diamond film growth rate. Diamond deposition was carried out applying different DC bias voltages (0, -50, -100, -150, -200 V) to the substrate. In the early stage of diamond deposition up to 2 h, the effect of voltage bias was not prominent probably because the diamond nucleation was retarded by ion bombardment onto the substrate. After 4 h of deposition, the film growth rate increased with the modest bias of -100 V and -150 V. With a bigger bias condition(-200 V), the growth rate decreased possibly due to the excessive ion bombardment on the substrate. The film grown under -150V bias exhibited the lowest contact angle and the highest surface roughness, which implied the most hydrophilic surface among the prepared samples. The film growth rate increased with the apparent activation energy of 21.04 kJ/mol as the deposition temperature increased in the range of $300{\sim}600^{\circ}C$.
Hydrogenated amorphous carbon(a-C:H) films were deposited on p-type Si(100) by DC saddle-field plasma enhanced CVD to investigate the effect of substrate bias on optical properties and structural changes. They were deposited using pure methane gas at a wide range of substrate bias at room temperature and 90 mtorr. The substrate bias voltage ($V_s$) was employed from $V_s=0 V$ to $V_s=400 V$. The information of optical properties was investigated by photoluminescence and transmitance. Chemical bondings of a-C:H have been explored from FT-IR and Raman spectroscopy. The thickness and relative hydrogen content of the films were measured by Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS) and elastic recoil detection (ERD) technigue. The growth rate of a-C:H film was decreased with the increase of $V_s$, but the hydrogen content of the film was increased with the increase of $V_s$. The a-C:H films deposited at the lowest $V_s$ contain the smallest amount of hydrogen with most of C-H bonds in the of $CH_2$ configuration, whereas the films produced at higher $V_s$ reveal dominant the $CH_3$ bonding structure. The emission of white photoluminescence from the films were observed even with naked eyes at room temperature and the PL intensity of the film has the maximum value at $V_s$=200 V. With $V_s$ lower than 200 V, the PL intensity of the film increased with V, but for V, higher than 200 V, the PL intensity decreased with the increase of $V_s$. The peak energy of the PL spectra slightly shifted to the higher energy with the increase of $V_s$. The optical bandgap of the film, determined by optical transmittance, was increased from 1.5 eV at $V_s$=0V to 2.3 eV at $V_s$=400 V. But there were no obvious relations between the PL peak and the optical gap which were measured by Tauc process.
In this paper, Characteristics of the ITO thin film deposited were analyzed using DC magnetron sputtering in order to investigate the deposition conditions of ITO thin film for transparent electrode. The experiment conditions were atmospheric pressure from 1 to 3[mTorr] with 1 [mTorr] step, bias electric voltage ranged from 260[V] to 330[V] with 10[V] step. The transmittance, refractive index and surface and cross-sectional shape of the deposited thin film were measured with an UV.-VIS. spectrophotometer, ellipsometer and SEM. Such condition as 1~2[mTorr] and near 300[V] voltage the transmittance was over 90[%] and the refractive index more than 2. Therefore, it was confirmed that the appropriate condition for making a highly transparent conductive electrode.
Magnetoelectric(ME) laminate composites of $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-PbTiO_3 (PMN-PT)$ and Terfenol-D were prepared by sandwiching single crystals of PMN-PT between Terfenol-D disks. The magnetoelectric voltage coefficient (dE/dH) of the composite was determined to be 10.30 V/cm${\cdot}$Oe, at 1 kHz and under a dc magnetic bias of 0.4 T. The value of dE/dH is ∼80 times higher than either that of naturally occurring magnetoelectrics or artificially-grown magnetoelectric composites. This superior magnetoelectric voltage coefficient is attributed to the high piezoelectric voltage constant as well as the high elastic compliance of PMN-PT single crystal and the large magnetostrictive response of Terfenol-D.
In this paper, high purity RF sputter-type ion source for non-mass separated ion beam deposition was evaluated. The fundamental characteristics of the ion source which is composed of an RF Cu coil and a high purity Cu target (99.9999 %) was studied, and the practical application of Cu thin films for ULSI metallization was discussed. The relationship between the DC target current and the DC target voltage at various RF power and Ar gas pressures was measured, and then preparation conditions for Cu thin films was described. As a result, it was found that the deposition conditions of the target voltage, the target current and the Ar pressure were optimized at -300 V, 240 W and 9 Pa, respectively. The resistivity of Cu films deposited at a bias voltage of -50 V showed a minimum value of 1.8 $\pm$ 0.1 $mu\Omega$cm, which is close to that of Cu bulk (1.67 $mu\Omega$cm).
In order to utilize as a pre-ionization means for reproducible ohmic plasma on KAIST-TOKAMAK, a simple, safe, economical and continuous microwave source has been developed using a home kitchen micro-wave oven. The magnetron used in the study can provide 500 W of power at 2.45 GHz. A conventional magnetron in a home kitchen microwave oven generates microwave for 8 ms at every 16 ms periodically due to the periodic (60 Hz) high voltage applied to the magnetron cathode. In order to generate continuous microwave which is suitable for tokamak pre-ionization, the magnetron operation circuit has been modified using a DC high voltage (5 kV, 1 A) power supply. It provides high-voltage with small ripple for magnetron cathode bias. Using the developed magnetron system, electron cyclotron resonace heated (ECH) plasmas were produced and the characteristics of the system were studied by diagnosing the ECH plasma using Langmuir probe and $H_{\alpha}$ emission diagnostics.

In this paper, we designed a beta ray sensor for a true random number generator. Instead of biasing the gate of the PMOS feedback transistor to a DC voltage, the current flowing through the PMOS feedback transistor is mirrored through a current bias circuit designed to be insensitive to PVT fluctuations, thereby minimizing fluctuations in the signal voltage of the CSA. In addition, by using the constant current supplied by the BGR (Bandgap Reference) circuit, the signal voltage is charged to the VCOM voltage level, thereby reducing the change in charge time to enable high-speed sensing. The beta ray sensor designed with 0.18㎛ CMOS process shows that the minimum signal voltage and maximum signal voltage of the CSA circuit which are resulted from corner simulation are 205mV and 303mV, respectively. and the minimum and maximum widths of the pulses generated by comparing the output signal through the pulse shaper with the threshold voltage (VTHR) voltage of the comparator, were 0.592㎲ and 1.247㎲, respectively. resulting in high-speed detection of 100kHz. Thus, it is designed to count up to 100 kilo pulses per second.

In this paper, we propose a new frequency reconfigurable dual-band antenna. By using an electronically compact eighth-mode substrate-integrated-waveguide(EMSIW) resonator, we have designed a compact antenna, which performs dual-band movement by additionally loading a complementary split ring resonator(CSRR) structure. The EMSIW and CSRR structures are designed to satisfy the bandwidths of 1.575 GHz(GPS) and 2.4 GHz(WLAN), respectively. We load the CSRR with a varactor diode to allow a narrow bandwidth and to enable the resonance frequency to continuously vary from 2.4 GHz to 2.5 GHz. Thus, we realize a channel selection function that is used in the WLAN standards. Irrespective of how a varactor diode moves, the EMSIW independently resonates so that the antenna maintains a fixed frequency of the GPS bandwidth even at different voltages. Consequently, as the DC bias voltage changes from 11.4 V to 30 V, the resonance frequency of the WLAN bandwidth continuously changes between 2.38 GHz and 2.5 GHz, when the DC bias voltage changes from 11.4 V to 30 V. We observe that the simulated and the measured S-parameter values and radiation patterns are in good agreement with each other.

We present simulation results on DC characteristics of AlGaN/GaN HEMT having stair-type gate electrodes, in comparison with those of the conventional single gate AlGaN/GaN HEMTs and field-plate enhanced AlGaN/GaN HEMTs. In order to reduce the internal electric field near the gate electrode of conventional HEMT and thereby to increase their DC characteristics, we applied three-layered stacking electrode schemes to the standard AlGaN/GaN HEMT structure. As a result, we found that the internal electric field was decreased by 70% at the same drain bias condition and the transconductance (gm) was improved by 11.4% for the proposed stair-type gate AlGaN/GaN HEMT, compared with those of the conventional single gate and field-plate enhanced AlGaN/GaN HEMTs.
