This paper deals with implementation of inverter systems for DC power regeneration, which can regenerate the excessive DC power from DC bus line to AC supply in substations for traction systems. From the viewpoint of both power capacity and switching losses, a three-phase square-wave inverter system is adopted. To control the regenerated power, the magnitude and phase of fundamental output voltages should be appropriately controlled in spite of the variation of input DC voltage. Inverters are operated with modified a-conduction mode to fix the potential of each arm. The overall system consists of the line-to-line voltage and line current sensors, an actual power calculator using d-q transformation method, a complex power controller with PI control scheme, a gating signal generator for modified $\alpha-conduction\;mode\;with\;\delta\;and\;\alpha$, a DPLL for frequency followup, and power circuit.
A novel integrated optimization method is proposed to combine both generation and transmission line expansion problem considering bus voltage limit. Most of the existing researches on the combined generation and transmission expansion planning cannot consider bus voltages and reactive power flow limits because they are mostly based on the DC power flow model. In this paper the AC power flow model and nonlinear constraints related to reactive power are simplified and modified to improve the computation time and convergence. The proposed method has been successfully applied to Garver's six-bus system which is one of the most frequently used small scale sample systems to verify the transmission expansion method.
This paper descibes a method for the state estimation in power systems with interconnected AC/DC system. The state values in interconnected AC/DC system are estimated using measurement values with the pseudo measurement so that the number of telemetering measurement can be reduced. Especially, the state values in AC system are estimated through hierarchical method after system decomposition including superposition bus was formed for the state estimation in large-scale power systems. The results of the application to the two model power systems show the dffectiveness of the presented algorithms.
The use of high-gain-voltage step-up converters for distributed power generation systems is being popularized because of the need for new energy generation and power conversion technologies. In this study, a new constructed high-gain-boost DC-DC converter was proposed to coordinate low voltage output DC sources, such as PV or fuel cell systems, with high DC bus (380 V) lines. Compared with traditional boost DC-DC converters, the proposed converter can create higher gain and has wider input voltage range and lower voltage stress for power semiconductors and passive elements. Moreover, the proposed topology produces multilevel DC voltage output, which is the main advantage of the proposed topology. Steady-state analysis in continuous conduction mode of the proposed converter is discussed in detail. The practicability of the proposed DC-DC converter is presented by experimental results with a 300 W prototype converter.
Two AC-DC PWM full-bridge converters that can input current to improve input power factor while performing dc-dc conversion are investigated in this paper. Both converters are simple in that they are similar to the standard PWM full-bridge converter with a diode rectifier/LC low-pass filter input, and both can operate with a simple method of PWM control. In the paper, the operation of the converters is explained and their steady-state characteristics are discussed. The feasibility of the converters and their ability to meet EN61000-3-2 Class D Standards for electrical equipment are shown with results obtained from experimental prototypes. The performance of both converters in terms of dc bus voltage level, input power factor and efficiency is compared and discussed.
This paper presents a new circuit topology of DC busline switch and snubbing capacitor-assisted full-bridge soft-switching PWM inverter type DC-DC power converter with a high frequency link for low voltage large current applications as DC feeding systems, telecommunication power plants, automotive DC bus converters, plasma generator, electro plating plants, fuel cell interfaced power conditioner and arc welding power supplies. The proposed power converter circuit is based upon a voltage source-fed H type full-bridge high frequency PWM inverter with a high frequency transformer link. The conventional type high frequency inverter circuit is modified by adding a single power semiconductor switching device in series with DC rail and snubbing lossless capacitor in parallel with the inverter bridge legs. All the active power switches in the full-bridge inverter arms and DC busline can achieve ZVS/ZVT turn-off and ZCS turn-on commutation operation. Therefore, the total switching losses at turn-off and turn-on switching transitions of these power semiconductor devices can be reduced even in the high switching frequency bands ranging from 20 kHz to 100 kHz. The switching frequency of this DC-DC power converter using IGBT power modules is selected to be 60 kHz. It is proved experimentally by the power loss analysis that the more the switching frequency increases, the more the proposed DC-DC converter can achieve high performance, lighter in weight, lower power losses and miniaturization in size as compared to the conventional hard switching one. The principle of operation, operation modes, practical and inherent effectiveness of this novel DC-DC power converter topology is proved for a low voltage and large current DC-DC power supplies of arc welder applications in industry.
In this study, we present the DPS system which is consist of several converters in parallel and supply the power to the load. The characteristics of the DPS using AC-bus or DC-bus, and load current sharing technique are discussed. We apply these techniques to the high-power paralleled DC/DC converter, and present the design requirements considered in the system.
The purpose of this paper is to develop a VBC (Voltage Bus Conditioner) system for a DC DPS (Distributed Power System). The advantages of the proposed VBC system are as follows: 1) the storage capacitor use smaller value than the conventional capacitive storage 2) the controller requires only one sensor to both damp the voltage transients and maintain the storage voltage. The performance of the proposed VBC system has been simulated and evaluated by Saber package.
when electric traction system used DC 1500V runs on decline of rail road track and slows down, Dc voltage goes beyond regular voltage. In this case extra power is forcibly wasted by resister because rectifier of substation and electric train including power converter and so on are out of order. This paper described a DC electric railway system, which can generate the excessive DC power form DC bus line to AC source in substation for traction system. The proposed regeneration inverter system for DC traction can be used as both an inverter and an active power filter(APF). As a regeneration inverter mode, it can recycle regenerative energy caused by decelerating tractions and as an active power filter mode, it can compensate for harmonic distortion produced by the rectifier substation. In addition, electric traction system products harmonic current and voltage distortion and reactive power because power converter is used so regeneration inverter normally runs such as active power filter(APF) for improving power quality. From the viewpoint of both power capacity and switching losses, the system is designed on the basis of three phase PWM inverters and composed of parallel inverters, output transformers, and an LCL filter.
The bidirectional dc-dc converter, being the interface between Energy Storage Element (ESE) and DC bus, is an essential component of the power management system for vehicle applications including electric vehicle (EV), hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), and fuel cell vehicle (FCV). In this paper, a novel multiphase bidirectional dc-dc converter interfacing with battery to supply and absorb the electric energy in the FCV system was studied with the help of real time digital simulator (RTDS). The mathematical models of fuel cell, battery and dc-dc converter were derived. A power management strategy was developed and first simulated in RTDS. A Power Hardware-In-the-Loop (PHIL) simulation using RTDS is then presented. The main challenge of this PHIL is the requirement for a highly dynamic bidirectional Simulation-Stimulation (Sim-Stim) interface. This paper describes three different interface algorithms. The closed-loop stability of the resulting PHIL system is analyzed in terms of time delay and sampling rate. A prototype bidirectional Sim-Stim interface is designed to implement the PHIL simulation.
