  • The importance of DC breakers as key protection equipment is increasing in accordance with growing concerns on MVDC distribution network systems without DC/AC conversion. Different from the situation in AC systems, no natural zero-crossing point exists in DC systems. Thus, DC breaker technology is more difficult than AC breaker technology. The solutions for DC breakers can be divided into three types: mechanical, power electronics, and hybrid. In this study, the operating principles of several topologies of hybrid circuit breakers and that of the proposed DC breaker are analyzed and simulated by sorting two types. The breakers are compared in terms of the type and number of semiconductors, volume, power loss, auxiliary components, isolation, and other aspects. The advantages and disadvantages of the breakers are also analyzed.

  • The development of electric vehicle power electronics system control, composed of DC-AC inverters and DC-DC converters, attract much research interest in the modern industry. A DC-AC inverter supplies the high-power motor torques of the propulsion system and utility loads of electric vehicles, whereas a DC-DC converter supplies the conventional low-power and low-voltage loads. However, the need for high-power bidirectional DC-DC converters in future electric vehicles has led to the development of many new topologies of DC-DC converters. The nonlinear control of power converters is an active research area in the field of power electronics. This paper focuses on the use of the fuzzy sliding mode strategy as a control strategy for buck-boost DC-DC converter power supplies in electric vehicles. The proposed fuzzy controller specifies changes in control signals based on the surface and knowledge on surface changes to satisfy the sliding mode stability and attraction conditions. The performance of the proposed fuzzy sliding controller is compared to that of the classical sliding mode controller. The satisfactory simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed control law, which reduces the chattering phenomenon. Moreover, the obtained results prove the robustness of the proposed control law against variations in load resistance and input voltage in the studied converter.

  • This paper proposes an input-series-output-parallel connected ZVS full bridge converter with interleaved control for photovoltaic power conditioning systems (PV PCS). The input-series connection enables a fully modular power-system architecture, where low voltage and standard power modules can be connected in any combination at the input and/or at the output, to realize any given specifications. Further, the input-series connection enables the use of low-voltage MOSFETs that are optimized for a very low RDSON, thus, resulting in lower conduction losses. The system costs decrease due to the reduced current, and the volumes of the output filters due to the interleaving technique. A topology for a photovoltaic (PV) dc/dc converter that can dramatically reduce the power rating and increase the efficiency of a PV system by analyzing the PV module characteristics is proposed. The control scheme, consisting of an output voltage loop, a current loop and input voltage balancing loops, is proposed to achieve input voltage sharing and output current sharing. The total PV system is implemented for a 10-kW PV power conditioning system (PCS). This system has a dc/dc converter with a 3.6-kW power rating. It is only one-third of the total PV PCS power. A 3.6-kW prototype PV dc/dc converter is introduced to experimentally verify the proposed topology. In addition, experimental results show that the proposed topology exhibits good performance.

  • In recent years, many researches for DC power distributed system (PDS) are being preformed and the importance of the DC PDS is more and more emphasized. Furthermore, in the railway system, the DC PDS is used in subway station lighting, facilities, etc. In the DC PDS, DC bus voltage instability may be occurred by the operation of multiple parallel loads such as pulsed power load, motor drive system, and constant power loads. Thus, good quality and high reliability for electric power are required and voltage bus conditioner (VBC) may be used the DC PDS. The VBC is a DC/DC converter for mitigation of the bus transients. In this paper, adaptive controller is designed. The simulation results by PSIM are presented for validating the proposed control algorithm.

  • when electric traction system used DC 1500V runs on decline of rail road track and slows down, dc voltage goes beyond regular voltage. In this case extra power is forcibly wasted by resister because rectifier of substation and electric train including power converter and so on are out of order. This paper described a DC electric railway system, which can generate the excessive DC power form DC bus line to AC source in substation for traction system. The purpose of this study was the development of the regenerative inverter system which suppress extra DC-line voltage and regenerate the energy instead of using a resister. That is Developed regenerative inverter system returns the regenerative energy from the DC line voltage to the utility. In addition, the inverter can be compensate the harmonics caused by the power conversion devices used in the DC traction system.

In this case extra power is forcibly wasted by resister because rectifier of substation and electric train including power converter and so on are out of order. This paper described a DC electric railway system, which can generate the excessive DC power form DC bus line to AC source in substation for traction system. The proposed regeneration inverter system for DC traction can be used as both an inverter and an active power filter(APF). As a regeneration inverter mode, it can recycle regenerative energy caused by decelerating tractions and as an active power filter mode, it can compensate for harmonic distortion produced by the rectifier substation. In addition, electric traction system products harmonic current and voltage distortion and reactive power because power converter is used so regeneration inverter normally runs such as active power filter(APF) for improving power quality. From the viewpoint of both power capacity and switching losses, the system is designed on the basis of three phase PWM inverters and composed of parallel inverters, output transformers, and an LCL filter.

  • Wind power and photovoltaic(PV) systems are getting into the spotlight as substitute energy. But problem is happened stability by speed change of wind and the power output of the sun's ray. The power output amount according to velocity of wind power system. System breakdown can happen at change of sudden velocity, typhoon and night. This paper shows a automatic tail safety brake controller based on feedback control using wind velocity. The operation of automatic tail safety controller verified by manual test. PV system is a energy change system by temperature of sun's ray and cell. Maximum power point tracking(MPPT) is used in PV systems to maximize the photovoltaic array output power. In existed PV system is low output and changeable DC voltage for boost and filtering the buck-boost converter use. But, this paper established deformed DC-DC converter. Changed Buck-boost converter's unlined output current to line output current using DC-DC converter. This is effect that reduce ripple of output current. Proved through an output waveform comparison experiment. Finally, tail safety brake controller is established to wind turbine system for stability elevation and DC-DC converter is established on PV system for stability output.

  • In this paper, new topology is proposed that can dramatically reduce the converter power rating and increase the efficiency of total PV system. Since the output voltage of PV module has very wide voltage range, in general, the DC/DC converter is used to get constant high DC voltage. According to analysis of PV characteristics, in proposed topology, only 20% power of total PV system power is needed for DC/DC converter. DC/DC converter used in proposed topology has flat efficiency curve at all load range and very high efficiency characteristics. The total system efficiency is the product of that of converter and that of inverter. In proposed topology, because the converter efficiency curve is flat all load range, the total system efficiency at the low power range is dramatically improved. The proposed topology is implemented for 200kW PCS system. This system has only three DC/DC converters with 20kW power rating each other. It is only one-third of total system power. The experiment results show that the proposed topology has good performance.

  • Currently, many studies on green ships are under way. Fuel cell (FC) ships are of interest as future low-emission, fuel-efficient vessels. In this paper, a hybrid power management system for an FC ship was designed. The system consists of an FC, a battery, a unidirectional DC/DC converter, a bidirectional DC/DC converter, a filter, an inverter, and a propulsion component. To design the system, we analyze electric sources and converters, and create PLECS models of hybrid power management system. Then, we check the cold start sequence and perform a simulation to understand the characteristics of the hybrid power management system in an FC ship.
