  • In this paper, the low-cost drive circuit of dc motor for a multipurpose small-size electric vehicle is developed. In order to change smoothly the rotating direction of dc motor for traction, the operating sequence of both the field current and the armature voltage according to the angle of a pedal of vehicle is suggested. The simulation study is carrier out to verify the proposed method, and the control system is implemented with 8-bit AVR.

  • This paper presents a drive strategy to reduce torque ripple of a permanent magnet Brushless DC Motor(BLDCM) with short $120^{\circ}$ flat top Back Electromotive Force(Back-EMF). In this strategy, the phase Back-EMF is divided into four sections. Then, in each section the phase current is regulated by corresponding PWM duty ratio to compensatethe torque ripple caused by imperfect Back-EMF. A program based on this strategy has been implemented in MATLAB@Simulink. The validity of the presented method is verified by simulation results.

  • Generally, Slotless PM BLDC drive system is necessary that the three Hall-ICs evenly be distributed around the stator circumference and encoder be installed in case of the 3 phase motor. So, the Hall-ICs are set up in this motor to detect the main flux from the rotor, and the output signal from Hall-ICs is used to drive a power transistor to control the winding current. However, instead of using three Hall-ICs and encoder, we used only two Hall-ICs for the permanent magnet rotor position and for the speed feedback signals, and also for a microcontroller of 16-bit type (80C196KC) with the 3 phase Slotless PM BLDC whose six stator and two rotor designed. Two Hall-IC Hc and $H_B$ are placed on the endplate at 120 degree intervals, and with these elements, we can estimate information of the others phase in sequence through a rotating rotor.

Characterization and Detection of a Free-falling State of a Mobile HDD Using the Electromechanical Analysis in a Rotating Spindle System (스핀들 회전축계의 기전 연성 해석을 이용한 모바일 HDD의 자유 낙하 특성 및 감지에 관한 연구)

  • This research investigates the electromechanical characteristics of a spindle motor in a free-falling mobile hard disk drive before unexpected shock. Electromechanical simulation includes a time-stepping finite element analysis of the magnetic field in a speed controlled brushless DC motor and dynamic analysis of the stationary and rotating part linked by the fluid dynamic bearing under the free-falling condition. Analysis results show that the dynamic characteristics of the rotating spindle system during free-falling state have an effect on the relative motion between the stationary and rotating part of HDD. It results from the variation of reaction force in the bearing area due to the gravity force exerted on the rotating part of HDD, and the free-falling condition can be detected by observing the signal of the spindle motor and disk-head interface without using an accelerometer.

  • This paper investigates the field weakening operation of a five-phase permanent magnet motor. The proposed motor has concentrated windings such that the produced back-EMF is almost trapezoidal and is supplied with the combined sinusoidal plus third harmonic of currents to produce trapezoidal current. Therefore this motor, while generating the same average torque as an equivalent permanent magnet brushless dc motor, overcomes its disadvantages. It is shown that torque producing and flux producing components of current for this motor can be decoupled by using multiple reference frame transformation. Therefore, Vector control is easily applicable to the motor. This motor has benefits such as high torque density of a BLDC motor below the rated speed and controllability of PMSM above the rated speed and during the field weakening region and simulation and experimental results are provided to prove the validity of the superior performance of this drive.

  • This paper discusses methods for the torque ripple and noise reduction of DC motors for automotive air-conditioning based on electromagnetic field analysis. The target of the motor is a blower motor, and to reduce cogging torque and the torque ripple, the optimum model was selected by deforming the brush or commutator shape. In addition, to reduce the cogging torque, the model design was carried out by applying the skew method and the magnetization method of a magnet to the rotor. For optimization, the shape, material, and drive system of the motor were selected using an electromagnetic field as the analysis tool, and the method of reducing the cogging torque was applied to 4-pole, 12- and 13-slot motors considering the mechanical part. Lastly, this paper confirmed thatthemethod, which proposed how much noise, cogging torque, and vibration are reduced, improves through practical analysis.

  • In this paper deals with instantaneous torque control of induction motor by vector control. The induction motor is modelled from nonlinear to linearized in condition to its control by vector control method and we obtained simple model as like as a separately excited DC motor drive system. This paper presents the fully digital controlled induction motor drive system based on the proposed linearized method and the control circuit of system consists of 16bits micro computer and all the function are implemented with software.
