This paper introduces an efficient voltage multiplier circuit for improved voltage gain and power efficiency of radio frequency identification (RFID) tags. The multiplier is fully integratable and takes advantage of both passive and active circuits to reduce the required input power while yielding the desired DC voltage. A six-stage voltage multiplier and an ultralow power voltage regulator are designed in a 0.13 ${\mu}m$ complementary metal-oxide semiconductor process for 2.45 GHz RFID applications. The minimum required input power for a 1.2 V supply voltage in the case of a 50 ${\Omega}$ antenna is -20.45 dBm. The efficiency is 15.95% for a 1 $M{\Omega}$ load. The regulator consumes 129 nW DC power and maintains the reference voltage in a 1.1% range with $V_{dd}$ varying from 0.8 to 2 V. The power supply noise rejection of the regulator is 42 dB near a 2.45 GHz frequency and performs better than -32 dB from 100 Hz to 10 GHz frequencies.
Current sensors that use a Hall element and Hall IC to measure the magnetic fields generated in steel silicon core gaps do not distinguish between direct and alternating currents. Thus, they are primarily used to measure direct current (DC) in industrial equipment. Although such sensors can measure the DC when installed in expensive equipment, ascertaining problems becomes difficult if the equipment is set up in an unexposed space. The control box is only opened during scheduled maintenance or when anomalies occur. Therefore, in this paper, a method is proposed for facilitating the safety management and maintenance of equipment when necessary, instead of waiting for anomalies or scheduled maintenance. A Bluetooth 4.0 low-energy current-sensor system based on near-field communication is used, which compensates for the nonlinearity of the current-sensor output signal using a piecewise linear model. The sensor is controlled using its generic attribute profile. Sensor nodes and cell phones used to check the signals obtained from the sensor at 50-A input currents showed an accuracy of ±1%, exhibiting linearity in all communications within the range of 0 to 50 A, with a stable output voltage for each communication segment.
We have fabricated twisted nematic (TN) liquid crystal cells doped by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with different CNT wt. %. With a minute amount doping, multi-walled CNTs did not perturb the liquid crystal orientations at the off- and on-state. The hysteresis studies of voltage-dependent capacitance (V-C) under the influence of electric field generated by ac and dc voltage show that the residual do, which is tightly related to image sticking problem in liquid crystal displays, is greatly reduced due to ion trapping by CNTs. Also, the V-C hysteresis shows dependency of capacitance on concentration of multi-walled CNTs.
In this study, a relationship between DC discharge and the radiated electromagnetic waves is investigated by measuring electromagnetic waves using a biconical antenna and a spectrum analyzer. The characteristics of frequency spectrum ofthe radiated electromagnetic waves was measured at the atmospheric pressure in Liquid Nitrogen $(LN_2)$ during partial discharges in nonuniform and uniform electric field depend on positive DC power. From this experiment results, it was confirmed that when partial discharge was produced in Liquid Nitrogen and Air, the signal of partial discharge was detected by this experiment and the analysis method. It is considered thatthese results obtained from this investigation may be used as fundamental data for diagnosis and prediction of insulation on the equipments ultra-high voltage, superconducting and cryogenic applications.
The space charge behaviors of oil-paper insulation affect the stability and security of oil-filled converter transformers of traditional and new energies. This paper presents the results of the electrical aging of oil-impregnated paper under AC-DC combined voltages by the pulsed electro-acoustic technique. Data mining and feature extractions were performed on the influence of electrical aging on charge dynamics based on the experiment results in the first stage. Characteristic parameters such as total charge injection and apparent charge mobility were calculated. The influences of electrical aging on the trap energy distribution of an oil-paper insulation system were analyzed and discussed. Longer electrical aging time would increase the depth and energy density of charge trap, which decelerates the apparent charge mobility and increases the probability of hot electron formation. This mechanism would accelerate damage to the cellulose and the formation of discharge channels, enhance the acceleration of the electric field distortion, and shorten insulation lifetime under AC-DC combined voltages.
Regenerative Energy Storage System(ESS) is a system that saves regenerative energy which generated instantly in the regenerative braking of Electric Multiple Unit(EMU) and disappear, and reuse the stored energy when EMU is in powering. Such system related to a research field of renewable energy which emerged concerning climate change and high oil prices. In the case of existing domestic rolling stock, about 25% to 30% of generated regenerative energy is restored to power source and is regarded as direct factor of raising catenary voltage. Such rapid change of catenary voltage is a cause of the failure of EMU's electronic equipment and lowering its reliability and is also a cause of train's fault occurred by tripping circuit breaker. In this paper, we intend to investigate the effect on blending characteristics of electric-braking and pneumatic-braking whether the regenerative energy storage system is used or not in urban transit DC 1,500V feeding system, while trains run. And we also intend to investigate its effect on stabilization of the blending, fluctuation of catenary voltage and various electric equipments.
In this paper, a novel stator hybrid excited doubly salient permanent magnet (SHEDS-PM) brushless machine with a special magnetic bridge is proposed for the first time. The originality of this machine is purposely to add a magnetic bridge in shunt with each PM pole, which not only maintains the stator lamination in its entireness, but also amplifies the effect of DC field flux on PM flux. An equivalent magnetic circuit is presented to clarify the novelty. Based on the 2-D finite element analysis, the static characteristics of the SHEDS-PM machine, namely phase flux linkage, back-EMF, cogging torque, winding inductance and static torque are deduced. The corresponding results on a prototype machine illustrate that the proposed machine is promising for application to electric vehicles.
Electrorheological fluids (ERF) are suspensions which show an abrupt increase in rheological properties under electric fields. The rheological response is very rapid and reversible when the electric field is imposed and/or removed. Therefore, there are many practical applications using the ERF. The purpose of the present study is to examine the flow characteristics of ERF. First, the microscopic behavior of the ER suspension structure between two fixed parallel-plate brass electrodes applied dc high voltage for the stationary and flow of the ERF was investigated by flow visualization. The electrical and rheological properties of zeolite based ERF were reported.
