Differential equations and its numerical solution program using Turbo-C were formulated to describe the radical distribution and average displacement amplitude of vibrating dehydrated contact lens(HEMA) driven by sinusoidal or rectangular pressure. The natural resonant frequency of the lens diaphram(thickness 0.08mm, diameter 14mm, curvature radius 8mm) was measured to be 5730 Hz from the extrapolation of frequency vs addedmass to the diaphram curve. The Young's modulus of the lens was measured to be $4{\times}10^9$ Pa with altering the original shape. The effect of parameters such as thickness, effective radius, damping coeff., amplitude of driving pressure on the vibration characteristics was illustrated by the computer simulation of the derived program. When the frequency of driving pressure coincides with the integral multiple of fundamental resonance frequency of the lens the wave pattern changes from arc to bell-shape along the radial position of the diaphram. If this happens to the contact lens on the cornea in vivo, it might create the feel of pull of the lens due to the increased rise of central part of the lens.
In this paper, we propose a prototype system of digital data broadcasting system based on the ATSC data broadcasting standard. This prototype system uses data piping as a mechanism for delivery of arbitrary user-defined data inserted directly into the payload part of the MPEG-2 Transport Stream packets. This data type includes URL or HTML content. After the contents are inserted into the MPEG-2 Transport Stream, they can be delivered through the broadcasting to the DTV set-top receiver. The 75 packets received in real-time during the TV broadcast are used to start display or switch content. This prototype system describes how to achieve common design goals and integrating digital TV and web pages based on the ATSC data broadcasting standard. The prototype system can be used to display digital data contents - HTML, images-on existing TV or digital TV set-tops.
This study was performed to measure the mandibular movement and the changes of masicatory and sternocleidomastoid muscle activity reflected by occlusal disturbance during habitual chewing. For this study, 18 subjects(14 males and 4 females with an average age of 24.0) were selected. The impression of each subject were taken for measuring intermolar distance on lower dentition. The activities of masticatory and sternocleidomastoid muscle and the mandibular movement were recorded and analyzed during habitual chewing by means of E.M.G.(electromyograph), E.G.N.(electrognathograph), rotate program in BioPak analyzing system(BioResearch Inc.). The results were as follows : 1. In EMG of the mandibular rest position, the mean value of muscle activites were increased by nocleidomastoid muscle and anterior belly of digastric muscle(0.05
Indonesian kefir grains are potential sources of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) that may act as probiotics with specific functional properties. In this study we explored the potential of the probiotic and cholesterol-lowering effect of LAB isolated from Indonesian kefir grains obtained from Bogor, Bandung, Jakarta, and Yogyakarta. The results revealed that 10 isolates showed considerable survivability at low pH and bile salt with total cell reduction of ~3 log colony-forming units per milliliter after exposure to pH 2.5 and 0.5% (w/v) bile salt for 1 and 3 h, respectively. All strains exhibited strong antimicrobial activities against pathogenic bacteria and were sensitive to a wide spectrum of antibiotics but exhibited weak bile salt hydrolase activity. Identification based on 16S RNA suggested that nine isolates were Lactobacillus kefiri and one was Lactobacillus rhamnosus. The ability of the isolates to reduce cholesterol from the media varied, ranging from 22.08% to 68.75% with the highest reduction shown by L. kefiri JK17. The ability to remove cholesterol from the media decreased greatly in resting and dead cells, ranging from 14.58% to 22.08% in resting cells and from 7.89% to 18.17% in dead cells. It can be concluded that Indonesian kefir grains contain LAB potentially acting as probiotics capable of reducing cholesterol. The cholesterol-lowering effect especially occurs when the cells are metabolically active.
WB were screening the stele and the cortex of the ginseng roots (Panax ginseng C.A.Meyer) on the exo-0-glycosylhydrolase activities during vegetation period of 1999 year. The following p-nitrophenylglycosides were used to test exe-0-glycosylhydrolase activities: $\alpha$- and $\beta$-D-galactopyranosides,$\alpha$- and $\beta$-D-glucopyranosides, $\alpha$- and $\beta$-D-mannopyranosides, N-acetyl-$\beta$-D-glucosaminide, $\alpha$- and $\beta$-D-xylopyranosides $\alpha$- L-rhamnopyranoside, $\beta$-D-glucuronide, $\beta$-D-galacturonide, $\beta$-L-,$\alpha$-L- and $\beta$-D-fucopyranosides, $\alpha$-L-arabinopyranoside. Only $\beta$-D-galactosidase, $\alpha$-L-mannosi-dase , N- acetyl- ${\beta}$-D-slucosarninidase, $\alpha$-D-galacto sidase, $\alpha$-L-arabinosidase, and $\beta$-D-fuco sidase were found in both partsof ginseng roots. Their contents during the vegetation period were shown to differ considerably, being dependent not only on plant development stage but on plant tissue and environmental conditions too.
Using superoxide dismutase (SOD)-deficient mutants of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the oxidative stresses induced by 0.1 mM of copper ion $(Cu^{++})$ was studied. In aerobic culture condition, yeasts lacking MnSOD (mitochondrial SOD) showed more significant growth retardation than CuZnSOD (cytoplasmic SOD)-deficient yeasts. However, not so big differences in growth pattern of those mutants compared withwild type were observed under anaerobic condition. It was found that, under aerobic condition, the supplementation of 0.1 mM copper ioh:(Cu") into culture medium caused the remarkable increase of CuZnSOD but not so significant change in MnSOD. It was also observed that catalase activities appeared to be relatively high in the presence of copper ion in spite of the remarkable reduction of glutathion peroxidase in CuZnSOD-deficient yeasts, but the slight increments of catalase and glutathion peroxidase were detected in MnSOD-deficient strains. It implies that the lack of cytoplasmic SOD could be compensated mainly by catalase. However, these phenomena resulted in the significantincrease of cellular lipid peroxides content in CuZnSOD-deficient yeasts and the slight increment of lipid peroxides in MNSOD-deficient cells. In anaerobic cultivation supplementing copper ion, the cellular enzyme activities of catalase and glutathion peroxidase in SOD-deficient yeasts were slightly increased without any significant changes of lipid peroxides in cell membrane. It suggests that a little amount of free radicals generated by copper ion under anaerobic condition could be sufficiently overcome by catalase as well as glutathion peroxidase.dase.

In terrestrial data broadcasting, we are just on the beginning stage in all aspects including implementation and design techniques and only asynchronous data processing has been receiving a little study. In this paper, we therefore propose an efficient processing algorithm for synchronization of asynchronous data by using trigger information to make more diverse service possible with a variety of contents. In the proposed algorithm, trigger data is encapsulated in DSM-CC section and transmitted in a form of MPEG-2 TS. The data is then separated in PC type set-top box and detached asynchronous data and trigger data are stored by the proposed algorithm. Pre-loaded asynchronous data is displayed when STC(system time clock) has the same value as PTS(presentation time stamp). Proper operation of the proposed algorithm was verified by using a content of asynchronous data with extensible markup language(XML) and a declarative application(DA) browser.
A rapid, sensitive, and specific enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay (ELISA) for bovine casein was developed. Biotinylated casein and peroxidase-conjugated avidin were used in the assay with antibody separated from yolks of immunized hens. Caseins were biotinylated with sulfo-N-hydroxy succinimido biotin and peroxi-dase-conjugated avidin bound the biotinylated casein which became bound to immobilized anti-body on a microplate. The antibodies were specific for bovine $\alpha$- and $\beta$-caseins, and their cross-reactivities with whey proteins, IgG, and serum albumin from bovine were not detectable by ELISA and Western blot. Various sensitivities ranging from 2ng/ml to 20${\mu}\textrm{g}$/ml of casein were achieved, and were controlled by adding vanous concentrations of the biotinylated casein. Parallelism was observed between standard and sample curves. The coefficients of variation of intra-assays and inter-assays from the most sensitive assay were 5.5 and 5.7%, respectively, at the 50% displacement. Casein contents of peripaturient milk samples showed that casein secretion rapidly increased 3d prepartum.
A genomic DNA library of the bacterium Paenibacillus sp. DG-22 was constructed and the ${\beta}-xylosi-dase-positive$ clones were identified using the fluorogenic substrate $4-methylumbelliferyl-{\beta}-D-xylopyr-anoside$$({\beta}MUX)$. A recombinant plasmid was isolated from the clone and 4.3-kb inserted DNA was sequenced. The ${\beta}-xylosidase$ gene (xylA) was comprised of a 2,106 bp open reading frame (ORF) en-coding 701 amino acids with a molecular weight of 78,710 dalton and a pI of 5.0. The deduced amino acid sequence of the xylA gene product had significant similarity with ${\beta}-xylosidases$ classified into family 52 of glycosyl hydrolases. The xylA gene was subcloned into the pQE60 expression vector to fuse with six histidine-tag. The recombinant ${\beta}-xylosidase$$(XylA-H_6)$ was purified to homogeneity by heat-treatment and immobilized metal affinity chromatography. The pH and temperature optima of the $XylA-H_6$ enzyme were pH 5.5-6.0 and $60^{\circ}C$, respectively.

A new lactococcal shuttle/expression vector for lactococci, pWgal13T, was constructed using a $\beta$-galactosi-dase gene (lacZ) from Lacfococcus lactis ssp. lactis ATCC 7962 as a screening marker. The pWgal 13T was introduced into Escherichia coli DH5a and L. lactis MG1363, and was easily detected by the formation of blue colonies on a medium containing X-gal without any false transformants. Also, the quantitatively lacZ activity of pWgal13T was measured in L. lactis ssp. cremoris MG1363, and was found to be four times higher than that of L. lactis ssp. lactis ATCC7962 grown on a medium containing glucose, which shows that the lacZ gene of pWgal13T can be used for the efficient screening of L. lactis on general media. The pWgal13T was equipped with a lactococcal replicon of pWV01 from L. lactis Wg2, the new promoter P13C from L. lactis ssp. cremoris LM0230, multiple cloning sites, and a terminator for the expression of a relevant gene. The vee-tor pWgal13T was used for the expression of the EGFP gene in E. coli and L. lactis. These results show that the lactococcal expression/shuttle vector constructed in the present study can be used for the production of foreign proteins in E. coli and L. lactis.
