Polysaccharides obtained from Sappan Lignum, Mori Radicis Cortex and Olibanum were examined for their liver protective effects against carbon tetrachloride-and D-galactosamine intoxication in ICR-mice. Hexobarbital sleeping time and serum transaminases (S-GOT and S-GPT) were measured as parameters for the evaluation of liver protective effects. All polysaccharides tested in this experiment showed remarkable positive effects on the prevention of hepatic intoxication with carbon tetrachloride-and D-galactosamine. Much better liver protective effects of polysaccharides were observed in D-galactosamine-liver injuries than in carbon tetrachloride-injuries.

In 1995, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Task Group 43 published a report dealing with the dosimetry of interstitial brachytherapy sources, generally known as the TG-43 report. Compared to previously adopted formalisms, a formalism proposed in this report provides a more accurate and systematic brachytherapy dose calculation method, especially for Ir-192 and other low energy gamma sources such as 1-125 and Pd-l03. In this lecture, an overview of the TG-43 formalism will be presented, along with the lecturer's experience in determining the TG-43 parameters by the Monte Carlo method and experimental methods such as TLD and radiochromic film.

Purpose: In this study we measured the mean value of the distance stereoacutiy for adult subjects and evaluated the variation of the distance stereoacuity according to correction of phoria using the Pola Test E-II of Carl Zeiss. Methods: We investigated the distance stereoacuity for 50 adults (male: 29, female: 21) ranging in age from 19 to 46 years using D6 Circle chart and D8 Line chart in the Pola Test E-II. Results: The mean values of the distance stereoacuity measured on the D6 Circle test and D8 Line test were 159.6 and 149.4 seconds of arc respectively. The mean variations of the distance stereoacuity according to correction of phoria in D6 Circle test were increased 43.2 seconds of arc in exophoria and 51 seconds of arc in esophoria, and those in D8 Line test were increased 42 seconds of arc in exophoria and 70.2 seconds of arc in esophoria. Conclusions: We knew from these results that the distance stereoacuity after prescription of phoria improved more esophoria than exophoria.

In this paper, we present design and test results of a Ka-band dual-band ortho-mode transducer (OMT) for use in a feed assembly for the very small aperture terminals (VSATs). The designed ortho-mode transducer have wideband characteristics to separate the signals that have two orthogonal linear polarizations operating at 20GHz of receive frequency band and at 30GHz of transmit frequency band. In addition, in order to reduce the volume of the feed assebly, a Boifot based ortho-mode transducer has been designed with a dual-band. Experimental results for the design verification, the return loss in the receive band and in the transmit band for the horizontal polarization showed over 20dB and 21dB, respectively, and for the vertical polarization showed over 20dB and 24dB, respectively. The port isolation for the horizontal polarization and the vertical polarization showed over 43dB and 52dB, respectively, in the receive band and in the vertical band.

In this paper, a shaped offset gregorian antenna is electrically designed for Ku band FSS antennas of the domestic communications and broadcasting satellite which will be launched in the near future. For this, a design procedure for shaped offset gregorian antennas is described in detail, and a satellite antenna is designed by using the described design procedure. The radiation characteristics of the designed antenna are evaluated and compared with the design goals. The designed antenna is found to have 1.2$^{\circ}C$ beamwidth, 38.57 dBi EOC gain, and 43.19 dBi gain at Tx frequency 12.25 GHz and 1.08$^{\circ}$ beamwidth, 38.12 dBi EOC gain, and 44.11 dBi gain at Rx frequency 14.0 GHz. And also, side lobe levels and cross-polarization levels are less than -30 dB and -33 dB, respectively. From these results the designed antenna is found to be able to use for the domestic satellite FSS antennas.

Purpose: This research measured the near addition powers of presbyopia in wearing the near spectacle for the first time. Methods: We evaluated age, sex, working group, spherical power and cylindrical power and measured the power of refractive error performed the both eyes (310 eyes) of 155 subjects subjectively noncycloplegic and power of addition using the cross cylinder method. Results: There were measured the near addition powers in the range of +0.75D ~ +1.75D. In case of the average addition, they were measured with +1.06D in subjects under 43 years of age, +1.08D in 44 to 46 years, +1.23D in 47 to 49 years and +1.46D in over 50 years of age. The average age in subjects was 47.6 years old and 74 male, 81 female, 71 near sighted working group and 83 far sighted working group. Conclusions: Near addition was correlated with age, working group and cylindrical power (P<0.05, P<0.05, P<0.05).

Previously, various inhibitors of cell wall synthesis induced the drp35 gene of Staphylococcus aureus efficiently. To determine whether drp35 could be exploited in antistaphylococcal drug discovery, we cloned the promoter of drp35 ($P_d$) and developed different biological assay systems using an engineered S. aureus strain that harbors a chromosomally-integrated $P_d$ - lacZ transcriptional fusion. An agarose-based assay showed that $P_d$ is induced not only by the cell wall-affecting antibiotics but also by rifampicin and ciprofloxacin. In contrast, a liquid medium-based assay revealed the induction of $P_d$ specifically by the cell wall-affecting antibiotics. Induction of $P_d$ by sublethal concentrations of cell wall-affecting antibiotics was even assessable in a microtiter plate assay format, indicating that this assay system could be potentially used for high-throughput screening of new cell wall-inhibiting compounds.

Recently, cryogenic butterfly valves for LNG carriers are actively developed by ship equipment companies. The dual core structure unlike usual butterfly valve has both translation and gyration motions of the disk of the valve assembly. Especially, the ship equipment companies can not have overcome 2D design method; in addition, even though 2 years of development has passed, the drawing cannot be secured. In this research, for the cryogenic butterfly valves and the product design, 3D design method was introduced and DMU(Digital Mockup) was applied to complement the problems in 2D design and investigate application possibility of 3D design method.

Purpose: This study was done to evaluate the combination effects of capsicum plaster at the Korean hand acupuncture points K-D2 with prophylactic antiemetic on Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV). Methods: An experimental research design (a randomized, a double-blinded, and a placebo-control procedure) was used. The participants were female patients undergoing gynecologic laparoscopy; the control group (n=34) received intravenous prophylactic ramosetron 0.3mg, while the experimental group (n=34) had Korean Hand Therapy additionally. In the experimental group, capsicum plaster was applied at K-D2 of both 2nd and 4th fingers by means of Korean Hand Therapy for a period of 30 minutes before the induction of anesthesia and removed 8 hours after the laparoscopy. Results: The occurrence of nausea, nausea intensity and need for rescue with antiemetic in the experimental group was significantly less than in the control group 2 hours after surgery. Conclusion: Results of the study show capsicum plaster at K-D2 is an effective method for reducing PONV in spite of the low occurrence of PONV because of the prophylactic antiemetic medication.
