The thermal behavior and the crystallographic characteristics of an epitaxial $C49-TiSi_2$ island formed in a Si (001) substrate by $N_2$, treatment were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). It was found from the analyzed results that the epitaxial $C49-TiSi_2$ was thermally stable even at high temperature of $1000^{\circ}C$ therefore did not transform into the C54-stable phase and did not deform morphologically. HRTEM results clearly showed that the epitaxial $TiSi_2$ phase and Si have the orientation relationship of (060)[001]$TiSi_2$//(002)[110]Si, and the lattice strain energy at the interface was mostly relaxed by the formation of misfit dislocations. Furthermore, the mechanism on the formation of the epitaxial $_C49-TiSi2$ in Si and stacking faults lying on the (020) plane of the C49 Phase were discussed through the analysis of the HRTEM image and the atomic modeling.

The binding mode of anthryl derivatives to synthetic polynucleotides were investigated by various spectroscopic methods. The spectroscopic properties of anthracence with metbylamine and methylethylenediamine side chains, complexed with $poly[d(A-T)_2]$ and $poly[d(G-C)_2]$, can be summarized as a red-shift, with a strong hypochromism in the absortion spectrum, similar induced CD spectra, and a strong negative LD spectrum with an $LD^r$ magnitude comparable to the DNA absorption region. These observations indicate that anthracene moiety is intercalated between the nucleo-bases of $poly[d(A-T)_2]$ and $poly[d(G-C)_2]$. The side chains did not alter the spectroscopic properties, demonstrating that the binding mode was not affected by them. A strong energy transfer was observed from poly[d(A-T),] and $poly[d(I-C)_2]$ but not from $poly[d(G-C)_2]$, as reported by Kumar et al. (J. Am. Chem. Soc.(1993) 115, 8547). Since the binding mode is the same for all the polynucleotides, the amine group of the guanine base, which protrudes into the minor groove of $poly[d(G-C)_2]$, is concluded to disrupt the energy transfer.

To get rid of cell assembly margin and have more process room of upper substrate, we developed truly COT (Color Filter On TFF Array) LCDs in that B/M (Black Matrix) as well as C/F (Color Filter) layer is located on TFT substrate. Novel B/M material is also developed for this COT structure. Difficulty in making contact hole through C/F layer was solved by making each C/F pattern isolated from others. We think this configuration will be core technology for prominent COT LCDs.

The effects of Reynolds number (Re), freestream turbulence intensity (Tu) and integral length scale (${\Lambda}$) on the drag coefficient ($C_d$) of a circular cylinder in cross flow were experimentally studied for $6.45{\times}10^3$ < Re < $1.82{\times}10^4$. With the help of orificed plates, Tu was fixed at approximately 0.5%, 5%, 7% and 9% and the normalized integral length scale (L/D) was varied from 0.35 to 1.05. Our turbulent results confirmed the general trend of decreasing $C_d$ with increasing Tu. The effectiveness of Tu in reducing $C_d$ is found to lessen with increasing ${\Lambda}$/D. Most interestingly, freestream turbulence of low Tu (${\approx}5%$) and large ${\Lambda}$/D (${\approx}1.05$) can increase the $C_d$ above the corresponding smooth flow value.

Syntheses of carbapenam skeletons were achieved from 1,3-propanediol through 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition. 3-(Tetrahydropyran-2-yloxy)-(10) and 3-(t-butyldimethylsilyloxy) propanal (13) were obtained from 1,3-propanediol. 3-Hydroxypropanals (10, 13, 14) were reacted with N-hydroxyglycine esters to give C-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N-alkoxycarbonylmethylnitrones (15a-15d). 1,3-Dipolar cycloaddition of the nitrones with methyl acrylate or ethyl crotonate gave 3-(2-hydroxyethyl)isoxazolidines (16a-16b, 17a-17b, 18, 19a-19b). 3-(2-Hydroxyethyl)isoxazolidines (17a, 17c, 19a, 19b) were converted to 3-(2-iodoethyl)isoxazolidines (21a-21d) or 3-phenylthiocarbonylmethylisoxazolidines (25a-25d) which were cyclized to give 2-oxa-1-azabicyclo[3.3.0]octanedicarboxylates (22a-22d, 26a-26d). 2-Oxa-1-azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane-4,8-dicarboxylates (22c-22d, 26c-26d) were transformed to 6-(l-hydroxyethyl)carbapenam-3-carboxylates (30a-30b, 31a-31b).

Bacillus sphaericus was mutagenized with UV light irradiation and dimethyl sulfate. Thirty-five conditional lethal temperature-sensitive(ts) mutants were isolated at the nonpermissive temperature of $42^{\circ}C$ and classified into three groups by their growth characteristics on the nutrient broth, peptone glucose yeast extract agar and mineral salts agar. First was the lethal ts group, 24 mutants, which did not grow at the nonpermissive temperature, the second, 9 mutants, was the less growth is group whose growth was restricted to one-half, and the third, 2 mutants, was the cold lethal ts group whose growth was restricted at the permissive temperature($25^{\circ}C$and $30^{\circ}C$)

Based on Computer graphics molecular modeling method, quinolone derivatives as DNA-gyrase inhibitors formed stable DNA-intercalation complex with deoxycytidilyl-3',5'-deoxy guanosine[d($C_{p}G)_{2}$] dinucleotide. When d($C_{p}G)_{2}$ and d($A_{p}T)_{2}$, were compared in order to find out which DNA could form more stable DNA-Drug complex based on interaction energy($\Delta$E) and DNA-Drug complex energy, d($C_{p}G)_{2}$ resulted in lower energy than d($A_{p}T)_{2}$.

The deer was inseminated at the breeding season, which only shows appearance of the estrus cycles.
