  • The design method of 85 GHz-115 GHz band single side-band filter using the principle of martin-puplett inteferometer is described. It has been designed by this method and also manufactured and tested. From the test results, not only the ratio of image singal rejection of 19 dB is obtained, but also the theoretical and experimental results of center frequency of pass-band and rejection-band show the validity of the theory. This manufactured filter was installed on 100GHz band SiS (superconductor insulator superconductor ) receiver for observing cosmic radio waves and tested. We found that this filter can be used a single side-band as well as double side-band mode. The design method which is presented in this paper can be used a single side-band filter for a heterodyne type sub-milimeter wave receiver.

  • A Pt-skin $Pt_3Ni$(111) surface was reported to show high catalytic activity. In this study, we investigated the magnetic properties and electronic structures of the various oriented surfaces of bulk-terminated and Pt-segregated $Pt_3Ni$ by using a first-principles calculation method. The magnetic moments of Pt and Ni are appreciably enhanced at the bulk-terminated surfaces compared to the corresponding bulk values, whereas the magnetic moment of Pt on the Pt-segregated $Pt_3Ni$(111) surface is just slightly enhanced because of the reduced number of Ni neighboring atoms. Spin-decomposed density of states shows that the dz2 orbital plays a dominant role in determining the magnetic moments of Pt atoms in the different orientations. The lowering of the d-band center energy (-2.22 eV to -2.46 eV to -2.51 eV to -2.65 eV) in the sequence of bulk-terminated (100), (110), (111), and Pt-segregated (111) may explain the observed dependence of catalytic activity on surface orientation. Our d-band center calculation suggests that an observed enhanced catalytic activity of a $Pt_3Ni$(111) surface originates from the Pt-segregation.

  • Fuel cells are expected to be one of the major clean new energy sources in the near future. However, the slow kinetics of electrocatalytic hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), and the high loading of Pt for the anode and cathode material are the urgent issues to be addressed since they determine the efficiency and the cost of this energy source. In this review paper, a new approach was developed for designing electrocatalysts for the HOR and ORR in fuel cells. It was found that the electronic properties of Pt could be fine-tuned by the electronic and geometric effects introduced by the substrate alloy metal and the lateral effects of the neighboring metal atoms. The role of substrate was found reflected in a volcano plot for the HOR and ORR as a function of their calculated d-band centers. This paper demonstrated a viable way to designing the electrocatalysts which could successfully alleviate two issue facing the commercializing of the fuel cell-the cost of electrocatalysts and their efficiency.

  • The overall reaction rate of fuel cell is governed by oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in the cathode due to its slowest reaction compared to the oxidation of hydrogen in the anode. The ORR efficiency can be readily evaluated by examining the adsorption strength of atomic oxygen on the surface of catalysts (i.e., known as a descriptor) and the adsorption energy can be controlled by transforming the surface geometry of catalysts. In the current study, the effect of the surface geometry of catalysts (i.e., strain effect) on the adsorption strength of atomic oxygen on platinum catalysts was analyzed by using density functional theory (DFT). The optimized lattice constant of Pt ($3.977{\AA}$) was increased and decreased by 1% to apply tensile and compressive strain to the Pt surface. Then the oxygen adsorption strengths on the modified Pt surfaces were compared and the electron charge density of the O-adsorbed Pt surfaces was analyzed. As the interatomic distance increased, the oxygen adsorption strength became stronger and the d-band center of the Pt surface atoms was shifted toward the Fermi level, implying that anti-bonding orbitals were shifted to the conduction band from the valence band (i.e., the anti-bonding between O and Pt was less likely formed). Consequently, enhanced ORR efficiency may be expected if the surface Pt-Pt distance can be reduced by approximately 2~4% compared to the pure Pt owing to the moderately controlled oxygen binding strength for improved ORR.

  • In this paper the design of a new microstrip wide-band microwave discdriminator is presented which is composed of a binary power divider, an open stub and a shorted stub. The microstrip line frequency discriminator is designed at the center frequency of 3.2GHz. Measured discriminating bandwidth is about 20% and return loss is 15dB or more over that frequency range. Experimetal results are in good agreement with the theory.

  • The limited understanding of the surface properties of $Pt_3Ni$ for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) has motivated the study of properties and electronic structures of seven layered $Pt_3Ni$ (001), (110), and (111) surfaces. The first principle method based on density functional theory (DFT) is carried out. It is found that the bulk $Pt_3Ni$ has a ferromagnetic ground state with the ordered fcc type L12 structure, which is in good agreement with other results. Non magnetic Pt has the induced magnetic moment due to the strong hybridization between 3d Ni and 5d Pt. The magnetic moment of Pt and Ni enhanced on the surface of each due to surface effect however the magnetic moment of surface Pt in the Pt-segregated Pt3Ni (111) decreased and the magnetic moment of Ni in Ni rich subsurface increased significantly. The calculated d band centers of Pt explain the possibilities for oxygen absorption and play the important roles in altering the catalytic properties. The spin polarized densities of states are presented in order to understand physical properties of Pt in different surfaces in detail.

  • The spectroscopic model is proposed to analyze the gain bandwidth of a fiber Raman amplifier (FRA) with a multiple wavelength pumping scheme based on Raman gain theory. The oscillatory lineshape, which is the analytic function to analyze Raman gain spectra, allows us to estimate the gain bandwidth of the FRA. Based on the proposed theoretical modeling, we design and analyze the characteristics of the FRA using the combined multiwavelength pumping sources. We achieved the extended gain bandwidth of the FRA over 80 nm with the small gain ripple less than 0.5 dB. Threshold pumping power and effective noise figure for the FRA can be also analyzed by using the proposed model, which is also applicable for versatile fibers with other doping materials. The proposed analysis method can be useful for the design of FRA with the multiwavelength pumping scheme.

  • In this paper, the T-SRR (Triple Split Ring Resonator) using MNG (mu-Negative) meta-material adapted in a low-loss bandpass filter with 3-stages is suggested. The size of the T-SRR in the proposed bandpass filter with low dielectric constant PCB can be easily controlled. And the ${\lambda}/4$ transmission line theory is applied. The proposed T-SRR and filter have the center frequency of 10 GHz with QL value of 184 for military-satellite communication system in I band. The experimental results of the filter show that the insertion and return losses are 1.44 dB and 17.3 dB with bandwidth of 10 %, respectively. The proposed filter will be redesigned by IPD material etc. should be placed here. These instructions give you guidelines for preparing papers for JICCE.

  • KPCS internal antenna in this paper, is designed and fabricated using the theory based on the folded monopole antenna. I propose folded monopole internal antenna which has high gain low profile structure with easy installation into the handset of mobile phone. Design frequency is 1.8 GHz that is a center frequency of Korea PCS frequency band, and the impedance variances due to change of antenna structure as a length and width are simulated. Measurements show that input VSWR range under 2:1 is 1.72 - 1.88 GHz, and radiated H-plane pattern is omnidirectional under passive state. Active sensitivities and output power of phone applied antenna are $-105\;{\sim}\;-108\;dBm$ and $22.5\;{\sim}\;23.6\;dBm$ max., respectively.
