Sensorless Control of Non-salient Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drives using Rotor Position Tracking PI Controller

  • This paper presents a new velocity estimation strategy for a non-salient permanent magnet synchronous motor drive without high frequency signal injection or special PWM pattern. This approach is based on the d-axis current regulator output voltage of the drive system, which contains the rotor position error information. The rotor velocity can be estimated through a rotor position tracking PI controller that controls the position error at zero. For zero and low speed operation, the PI gain of the rotor position tracking controller has a variable structure according to the estimated rotor velocity. Then, at zero speed, the rotor position and velocity have sluggish dynamics because the varying gains are very low in this region. In order to boost the bandwidth of the PI controller during zero speed, the loop recovery technique is applied to the control system. The PI tuning formulas are also derived by analyzing this control system by frequency domain specifications such as phase margin and bandwidth assignment.

  • 본 논문에서는 전압형 PWM 인버터에서의 새로운 데드 타임 보상 기법을 제안하였다. 전압형 PMW 인버터의 경우 데드 타임 영향과 스위칭 소자의 비선형적인 특성에 의해 전압 왜곡이 발생한다. 특히, 전압 왜곡은 정지 좌표계 상전류에 5차와 7차, 그리고 동기 좌표계 상전류에는 6차 고조파를 발생시킨다. 그 결과 d축 동기 PI 전류 제어기의 적분기 출력은 인버터 기본파 주파수의 6배에 해당하는 맥동을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 d축 전류 제어기의 적분기 출력 신호를 데드 타임 보상을 위한 제어 신호로 사용하였다. 제안된 방법은 실험과 시뮬레이션을 통해 타당성을 검증하였다.

In order to boost the bandwidth of PI controller around zero speed, a loop recovery technique is applied to the control system. The proposed method only requires the flux linkage of permanent magnet and is insensitive to the parameter estimation error and variation. The designers can easily determine the possible operating range with a desired bandwidth and perform the vector control even at low speeds. The experimental results show the satisfactory operation of the proposed sensorless algorithm under rated load conditions.

  • A new implementation strategy for the flux weakening control of a Surface Mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (SPMSM) is proposed. It is implemented based on the output of the synchronous PI current regulator-reference voltage to PWM inverter. The onset of flux weakening and the level of the d-axis current are adjusted by the outer voltage regulation loop to prevent the saturation of the current regulator. The characteristics of this flux weakening scheme include no dependency on the machine parameters, the guarantee of current regulation on any operating condition, and fast transition into and out of the flux weakening mode. Experimental results at various operating conditions including 4-quadrant operation are presented to verify the feasibility of the proposed control scheme.

  • The back e.m.f. of PMSM is increased as the speed is increased and it saturates the current regulator because it counteracts the available output voltage of the inverter. In the PM motor, however, the required armature terminal voltage can be reduced within the maximum output voltage of the inverter by field weakening control, in which the air gap flux is weakened by the d-axis armature current. In this paper, the field weakening control of the surface PMSM fed by a hysteresis current control led PWM inverter based on the microprocessor is presented. To show the validity of the proposed control method, the simulation and experimental results are provided.
