  • In this paper, we propose an effective compression method for electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. 1-D ECG signals are reconstructed to 2-D ECG data by period and complexity sorting schemes with image compression techniques to increase inter and intra-beat correlation. The proposed method added block division and mean-period normalization techniques on top of conventional 2-D data ECG compression methods. JPEG 2000 is chosen for compression of 2-D ECG data. Standard MIT-BIH arrhythmia database is used for evaluation and experiment. The results show that the proposed method outperforms compared to the most recent literature especially in case of high compression rate.

  • In this study, we propose an optimal design and new fabrication method for a slim tactile sensor. Slim tactile sensor can detect 3-axial forces and has suitable flexibility for intelligent robot fingers. To amplify the contact signal, a unique table-shaped structure was attempted. A new layer-by-layer fabrication process for polymer micromachining that can make a 3D structure by using a sacrificial layer was proposed. A table-shaped epoxy sensing plate with four legs was built on top of a flexible polymer substrate. The plate can convert an applied force to a concentrated stress. Normal and shear forces can be detected by combining responses from metal strain gauges embedded in the polymer substrate. The optimal positions of the strain gauges are determined using the strain distribution obtained from finite element analysis.

  • In general, the realization of high performance brushless permanent magnet motors which are widely used in servo drive is focused on the linear control for ripple-free torque. This is also the main problem that should be solved in all AC motors including induction motor to achieve high performance control, and recent papers deal with this problem. In this paper, the novel optimal excitation scheme of brushless permanent magnet motor producing loss-minimized ripple-free torque based on the d-q-0 reference frame is presented including 3 phase unbalanced condition. The optimized phase current waveforms that are obtained by the proposed method can be a reference values and the motor winding currents are forced to track it by delta modulation technique. As a results, it can be shown that the proposed work can minimize the torque ripple by the optimal excitation current for brushless permanent magnet motor with any arbitrary phase back EMF waveform. Simulation and experimental results prove the validity and practical applications of the proposed control scheme.

  • This study conducted infrared (IR) thermography tests using pipe and plate specimens with artificial wall-thinning defects to find an optimal condition for IR thermography test on the wall-thinned nuclear piping components. In the experiment halogen lamp was used to heat the specimens. The distance between the specimen and the lamp and the intensity of halogen lamp were regarded as experimental parameter. When the distance was set to 1~2 m and the lamp intensity was above 60 % of full power, a single scanning of IR thermography detected all artificial wall-thinning defects, whose minimum dimension was $2{\Theta}=90^{\circ}$, d/t=0.5, and $L/D_o=0.25$, within the pipe of 500 mm in length. Regardless of the distance between the specimen and the lamp, the image of wall-thinning defect in IR thermography became distinctive as the intensity of halogen lamp increased. The detectability of IR thermography was similar for both plate and pipe specimens, but the optimal test condition for IR thermography depended on the type of specimen.

  • This paper use virtual running after possible traffic capacity application for optimal route location. General road is designed the design after we examine an alternate adequacy investigation and an execution design sufficiently. Various road user's requirement must be reflected from the beginning. But it is difficult to contain the various suitable design criteria because we consider the existing 2-dimension element. First of all, this study chose optimal route, used traffic assignment and 3D simulation. Then selected optimal route through the consistent road construction by analyzing road driving simulation of 3-dimension data and the urban landscape. possible traffic capacity and virtual running will be able to do the urban landscape analysis harmonizing with the environment; equally, it could be objectively solve the problem of a civil appeal.

  • The Variable Message Signs (VMS) are useful way to reduce the socio-economic costs due to the traffic congestions and delays by providing the information on traffic condition to drivers. This study provided a methodology to determine the locations of VMS's in terms of the minimization of the delay by applying the genetic algorithm. The optimal number of VMS's was also derived by the economic analysis based on the cost and the benefit. The simulation considered the variation of traffic volume, the frequency and duration of the incident, and the traffic conversion in order to reflect the real situation. I've made a scenario to consider traffic volume and incident, and it can undergo through changing different traffic volume and incident in time and days and seasons. And I've comprised two kinds of result, one is based on empirical studies, the other is based on Genetic Algorithm about optimal allocation VMS. This result of using optimal location VMS, reduce total travel time rather than preceding study based on normal location VMS and we can estimate optimal location VMS each one.

  • Development is given for an analytical approach that can investigate parameters characterizing road network geometry. A grid transportation network having a hierarchy structure is considered on a homogeneous and isotropic urban plane in which trip origins and destinations are uniformly dispersed and the trip length distribution is independent of the location of the origin. The object is to find the optimal spacings between urban arterials so as to minimize the sum of travel and construction costs, subject to the hypothesis that a trip assignment follows the Wardrop's first principle. The proposed approach is not the genera method for determining an efficient network layout, but can be used as basic concept for generating and evaluating urban road network alternatives. Given an O-D table and cost estimates the approach is able to outline at least in a qualitative sense the optimal spacings of urban arterial roads.

  • This paper is described clustering analysis of traffic characteristics-based highway classification in order to deviate from methodologies of existing highway functional classification. This research focuses on comparing the clustering techniques performance based on the total within-group errors and deriving the optimal number of cluster. This research analyzed statistical clustering method (Hierarchical Ward's minimum-variance method, Nonhierarchical K-means method) and Kohonen self-organizing maps clustering method for highway characteristic classification. The outcomes of cluster techniques compared for the number of samples and traffic characteristics from subsets derived by the optimal number of cluster. As a comprehensive result, the k-means method is superior result to other methods less than 12. For a cluster of more than 20, Kohonen self-organizing maps is the best result in the cluster method. The main contribution of this research is expected to use important the basic road attribution information that produced the highway characteristic classification.
