Mobility of pesticides can be occurred by run-off and leachate or soil erosion. It is one of the most important factors for environmental contamination, particularly in steep sloped-land as Gangwon alpine region. In this study, the mobility of seven pesticides in different slopes and soil textures was investigated by simulated rainfall under controlled conditions. Simulated rainfall subjected to 60 mm $hr^{-1}$ was treated using rainfall simulator after 12 hr of pesticide treatment. Amounts of the pesticides were measured in run-off and leachate samples. The soil samples collected after rainfall from upper and lower parts and three different depths of sloped-plot were also analyzed. At result, all pesticides from the un-off samples collected from Taebaek(silty clay loam) and Heongseong(sandy loam) soils were detected maximum 96% within 60 minutes after first collection except carbendazim and cypermethrin which have the lowest water solubilities. From the leachate samples, a similar pattern was shown as run-off samples but amount of pesticides was lower than those of run-off samples. In soil samples, the order of the amount of pesticide residues was $0{\sim}5$ > $5{\sim}10$ > $10{\sim}15$ cm of soil depth and no pattern was shown in upper and lower, and different slopes. Comparing to mobility of pesticides in water and soil samples, pesticides in soil samples were higher than those of water samples in Taebaek soil. However, the results using Heongseong soils were in contrast to those of Taebaek soil. These results revealed that mobility of pesticides can be dependant mainly on soil textures and physicochemical properties of pesticides. Therefore, it can be suggested that selection of pesticides should be considered for soil texture and properties of pesticide in the alpine and sloped-land.
Pesticides were extracted from samples with 70% acetone and methylene chloride in order, and then cleaned up via open-column chromatography apparatus packed with florisil, and finally analyzed simultaneously the organochlorine and pyrethroid pesticides using GC(ECD). An ultra-2 fused silica capillary column was used to separate and identify the products. The resolution between the last isomeric peak of cypermethrin(59.987min) and the first isomeric peak of flucythrinate(60.043min) was not satisfactory. The last isomeric peak of fenvalerate(62.344min) and the first isomeric peak of fluvalinate(62.397min) were overlapped. Recoveries of soybean sample fer the most pesticides were 73.3% to 102.4%. Detection limits were between 0.004 and 0.063 ${\mu}$g/mg when this method was used.
The simultaneous analytical method for 37 residual pesticides was developed by a gas chromatography with $^{63}$ Ni electron capture detector. Pesticides added in soybean sample were extracted with 70% acetone in water and methylene chloride in oder, and then cleaned up via open-column apparatus packed with florisil and alumina N. The Ultra-2 fused capillary column was used to separate the products. The resolution between the last isomeric peak of cypermethrin (56.398 min) and the first isomeric peak of flucythrinate (56.421 min) was not satisfactory and the last isomeric peak of fenvalerate(58.783 min) and the first isomeric peak of fluvalinate(58.835 min) was overlapped. Except for $\alpha$-BHC, dichlofluanid, captan, and captafol, most recoveries were showed over 70%.
Cypermethrin-containing polyurea microcapsules were prepared by interfacial polymerization using aromatic 2,4-toluene diisocyanate(TDI) and Ethylene diamine(EDA) as wall forming materials. The effects of the protective colloids of polyvinylalcohol(PVA) and gelatin were investigated through experimentation. The mean size of the polyurea microcapsules was smaller and the surface morphology of the PVA was much smoother than gelatin. In addition the release behavior was much more controlled and better sustained. As the concentration of protective colloid increased, the wall membrane of the polyurea microcapsules became more stable, the thermal stability of the wall membrane increased, the mean particle size became smaller, and the particle distribution was more uniform. The release behavior of the core material changed according to the concentration. As the gelatin concentration was increased, a more controlled and sustained release behavior was observed. However, in the case of PVA, the increase of PVA concentration lead to a more rapid release rate.
Pesticide residues in some vegetables collected at Noeun wholesale market in Daejeon were surveyed and assessed their risk. In 100 samples, the detection rate of pesticide was 46.0% and the rate exceed MRL was 6.0%. Commodities showing high detection rate were lettuce(85.0%), perilla leaf(80.0%) and cucumber(60.0%). Dicarboximide, organochlorine, and azole fungicides and organophosphorus and pyrethroid insecticides were detected. Detection frequency of pesticide was in the order of procymidone, chlorpyrifos, chlorothalonil, cypermethrin and EPN. When the estimated intake amount of the pesticides were compared with ADI to assess their risk, bitertanol, triflumizole and iprobenphos in perilla leaf were higher rate than the other vegetables. However the total amounts of intake of pesticides were estimated to less than 0.46% of ADI.
This experiment was carried out to estimate leaching potential of thirteen endocrine disruptor-suspected pesticides in upland soils using soil columns (5 cm I.D. ${\times}$ 35 cm H.) packed with soil A (sandy loam) and soil B (loam). When 12.6 mL of water, average precipitation in Cheongju area during the period from June to August, 2001-2010, was percolated through soil column packed with soil A every day for 21 days, no pesticides were detected from leachate, with the exception of metribuzin which was detected with negligible. Also, when 2 L of water was percolated consecutively five times through soil columns packed with soil A and B, irrespective of soil types, cypermethrin, endosulfan, fenvalerate, parathion and trifluralin, which were very low water solubilities and high soil $K_{oc}s$, were not detected from leachate and were distributed mostly in the depth of 0-5 cm, representing that water solubility and soil $K_{oc}$ are major contributing factors to their leaching behavior. Despite high average leaching rates in carbaryl and methomyl, actual possibilities of ground water contamination in the agricultural environment by them would be very low, considering that the negligible amount of pesticide was percolated through a lysimeter with an undisturbed soil core simulating the field conditions, while most of pesticide was percolated through a soil column with the disturbed soil profile.
BACKGROUND: This study was conducted to monitor residual pesticides in domestic agricultural products and to assess their risk to human health. METHODS AND RESULTS: 123 samples containing both general and environment-friendly certified agricultural products were purchased from traditional domestic markets and supermarkets in six provinces of Korea. Multiresidue analyses of one hundred twenty-two pesticides except for herbicides were performed with gas chromatography-electron capture detector, gas chromatography-nitrogen/phosphorus detector, and high-performance liquid chromatography. Sixteen pesticides were detected in 45 agricultural product samples, which were 38 general, 6 low pesticide and 1 of GAP agricultural product samples and the detection rate was 33.6%. Pesticides detected in agricultural product samples were cypermethrin, lufenuron, fenvalerate, bifenthrin, chlorfenapyr and iprodione. Residual concentration of 18 samples were exceeded the recommended maximum residue limit set by Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and two kinds of unregistered pesticides in korea were also detected in two samples. CONCLUSION(S): In order to do risk assessment by agricultural products consumption, estimated daily intake of residual pesticides were determined and compared to acceptable daily intake, referring to %ADI values. The range of %ADI values was from 0.038% to 2.748%. Taken together, it demonstrates the pesticides found in agricultural products samples were below the safety margin, indicating no effect on human health.

This study was carried out to survey residual characteristics of pesticide in fresh ginsengs collected from 45 markets at 15 regions in Korea using multiresidue analysis with a GC-MS/MS and an LC-MS/MS. After residue analysis was performed, the pesticides detected from ginsengs were quantitated using their analytical methods validated by recovery tests with a GC-ECD/NPD. As a results of analysis of pesticide residue, cypermethrin, fenitrothion, fludioxonil, thifluzamide, and tolclofos-methyl were detected from 16 samples among 45 samples in total, indicating detection rate was 35.6%. Tolclofos-methyl was found to be highest in detection frequency in ginseng. Fenitrothion that has not established maximum residue limit and pre-harvest interval for ginseng was detected. The amounts of all pesticides detected were less than their MRLs. Ratios of estimated daily intakes to acceptable daily intakes of the detected pesticides in ginseng were found to be from 0.03 to 16.67%.

An extrapolation of residue data of seven commonly used pesticides namely bifenthrin, chlorothalonil, cypermethrin, diazinon, fenvalerate, phenthoate and procymidone on a total of 22 minor crops has been carried out in an experimental field trial. The pesticides were applied to 11 leafy-, 5 root- and 6 stem-crops grown in the experimental green-house and the crops and plants were randomly collected at 1, 3, 5, 7 days after application. The average recoveries of applied pesticides were ranged from 72.0 to 117.0% in leafy crops, from 81.3 to 105.0% in stem crops and from 70.1 to 108.1% in the root-crops. Limits of detection (LODs) were 0.005-0.1 mg/kg in the leafy crops and 0.001-0.005 mg/kg in both the stem & root crops. Based on the results of residual dissipation pattern and their morphology, all crops were classified into high and low residual groups. The results showed that it might be possible to extrapolate residual data of stem-crops to root-crops within the same group. Crops that have currently no registered pesticide for use, would be possible to use the pesticides which are already been registered for the similar crops.
These studies were conducted to evaluate the five comparative test methods for detecting chemical resistance and to investigate resistant level of field populations of diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella L.). Leaf disc method was practically rocomrnendable because of its rapidity and low CV(l1.4%). Topical application method was a precise replicabiliLy(CV=8.00/0) but it was time consuming and difficult in mampulation. The other 3 methods showed higher CV ranging from 14.9% to 21.4%. Based on $LC_{50}$ values by topical application method, field populations of diamondback moth collected from 4 different regions, Kwangju, Kimhae, Jeju, and Inje to prothiofos showed from 3.3 to 61.1 times higher resistance than the susceptible strain, whereas to cypermethrin, Lhey were from 7.5 to 141.7 times higher than the susceptible. To cartap hydrochloride, they showed from 10.5- to 33.3-fold resistant levels as high as the susceptible. Finally, based on $LC_{50}$ values to Bacillus thuringiensis by leaf disc technique, the resistant levels of the field populations were from 1.9 Lo 8.1 times as compared to the susceptible.
