The optimal design for stiffened laminated composite cylindrical panels under axial compression was studied using linear and nonlinear deformation theories by finite difference energy methods. Various panel structures was made from Carbon/Epoxy USN125 prepreg and considered 3 types stiffeners. Optimal design analyses of panel structure are carried out by the nonlinear search optimizer, ADS. This optimal design results are compared to the FEM result using ANSYS.

In this paper, the nonlinear cylindrical bending of simply supported, functionally graded nanocomposite plates reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), is studied. The plates are subjected to uniform pressure loading in thermal environments and their geometric nonlinearity is introduced in the strain-displacement equations based on Von-Karman assumptions. The material properties of SWCNTs are assumed to be temperature-dependent and are obtained from molecular dynamics simulations. The material properties of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composites (FG-CNTCRs) are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction, and are estimated through a micromechanical model. The governing equations are reduced to linear differential equation with nonlinear boundary conditions yielding a simple solution procedure. Numerical results are presented to show the effect of the material distribution on the deflections and stresses.
The objective of this paper is to investigate buckling behavior of composite laminated cylinders by using semi-analytical finite strip method. The shell is subjected to deformation-dependent loads which remain normal to the shell middle surface throughout the deformation process. The load stiffness matrix, which is responsible for variation of load direction, is also throughout the deformation process. The shell is divided into several closed strips with alignment of their nodal lines in the circumferential direction. The governing equations are derived based on the first-order shear deformation theory with Sanders-type of kinematic nonlinearity. Displacements and rotations of the shell middle surface are approximated by combining polynomial functions in the meridional direction and truncated Fourier series along with an appropriate number of harmonic terms in the circumferential direction. The load stiffness matrix, which is responsible for variation of load direction, is also derived for each strip and after assembling, global load stiffness matrix of the shell is formed. The numerical illustrations concern the pressure stiffness effect on buckling pressure under various conditions. The results indicate that considering pressure stiffness causes buckling pressure reduction which in turn depends on various parameters such as geometry and lay-ups of the shell.
A 1/3 composite cylindrical shell with a central rectangular opening was axially compressed experimentally, and its critical buckling load and displacement, and strains were measured. A finite element model (FEM) of the shell with Hashin failure criteria was established to analyze its buckling and post-buckling behaviors by nonlinear Newton-Raphson method. The geometric imperfection sensitivity and the effect of side supported conditions of the shell were investigated. It was found that the Newton-Raphson method can be used to analyze the buckling and post-buckling behaviors of the shell. The shell is not sensitive to initial geometric imperfection. And the support design of the shell by side stiffeners is a good way to obtain the critical buckling load and simplify the experimental fixture.
This paper descrives the method to analyzed the free vibratioin of supported composite cylindrical shells with a longitudinal, interior rectangular plate. To obtain the free vibration characteristics before the combination of two structures, the energy principle based on the classical plate theory and Love's thin shell theory is adopted. The frequency equation of the combined system is formulated using the receptance method. When the line load and moment applied along the joint are assumed as the the Dirac delta and sinusolidal function, the continuity conditions at the joint of the plate and shell are proven to be satisfied. The effects on the combined shell frequencies of the length-no-radius ratios and radius-to-thickness ratios of the shell, fiber orientation angles and orthotropic modulus ratios of the composite are also examined.
The present paper investigates the simultaneous resonance behavior of spiral stiffened multilayer functionally graded (SSMFG) cylindrical shells with internal and external functionally graded stiffeners under the two-term large amplitude excitations. The structure is embedded within a generalized nonlinear viscoelastic foundation which is composed of a two-parameter Winkler-Pasternak foundation augmented by a Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic model with a nonlinear cubic stiffness. The cylindrical shell has three layers consist of ceramic, FGM, and metal. The exterior layer of the cylindrical shell is rich ceramic while the interior layer is rich metal and the functionally graded material layer is located between these layers. With regard to classical shells theory, von-Kármán equation, and Hook law, the relations of stress-strain are derived for shell and stiffeners. The spiral stiffeners of the cylindrical shell are modeled according to the smeared stiffener technique. According to the Galerkin method, the discretized motion equation is obtained. The simultaneous resonance is obtained using the multiple scales method. Finally, the influences of different material and geometrical parameters on the system resonances are investigated comprehensively.
This paper presents the semi-analytical development of the dynamic instability behavior and the dynamic response of functionally graded (FG) cylindrical shallow shell panel subjected to different type of periodic axial compression. First, in prebuckling analysis, the stresses distribution within the panels are determined for respective loading type and these stresses are used to study the dynamic instability behavior and the dynamic response. The prebuckling stresses within the shell panel are the same as applied in-plane edge loading for the case of uniform and linearly varying loadings. However, this is not true for the case of parabolic loadings. The parabolic edge loading produces all the stresses (${\sigma}_{xx}$, ${\sigma}_{yy}$ and ${\tau}_{xy}$) within the FG cylindrical panel. These stresses are evaluated by minimizing the membrane energy via Ritz method. Using these stresses the partial differential equations of FG cylindrical panel are formulated by applying Hamilton's principal assuming higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) and von-$K{\acute{a}}rm{\acute{a}}n$ non-linearity. The non-linear governing partial differential equations are converted into a set of Mathieu-Hill equations via Galerkin's method. Bolotin method is adopted to trace the boundaries of instability regions. The linear and non-linear dynamic responses in stable and unstable region are plotted to know the characteristics of instability regions of FG cylindrical panel. Moreover, the non-linear frequency-amplitude responses are obtained using Incremental Harmonic Balance (IHB) method.
The goal of this study is to fill this apparent gap in the area about vibration analysis of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) curved panels by providing 3-D vibration analysis results for functionally graded multiwalled carbon nanotubes (FG-MWCNTs) sandwich structure with power-law distribution of nanotube. The effective material properties of the FG-MWCNT structures are estimated using a modified Halpin-Tsai equation. Modified Halpin-Tsai equation was used to evaluate the Young's modulus of MWCNT/epoxy composite samples by the incorporation of an orientation as well as an exponential shape factor in the equation. The exponential shape factor modifies the Halpin-Tsai equation from expressing a straight line to a nonlinear one in the MWCNTs wt% range considered. Also, the mass density and Poisson's ratio of the MWCNT/phenolic composite are considered based on the rule of mixtures. Parametric studies are carried out to highlight the influence of MWCNT volume fraction in the thickness, different types of CNT distribution, boundary conditions and geometrical parameters on vibrational behavior of FG-MWCNT thick curved panels. Because of using two-dimensional generalized differential quadrature method, the present approach makes possible vibration analysis of cylindrical panels with two opposite axial edges simply supported and arbitrary boundary conditions including Free, Simply supported and Clamped at the curved edges. For an overall comprehension on 3-D vibration analysis of sandwich panel, some mode shape contour plots are reported in this research work.

The present study aims to analyze the magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) vibration of a functionally graded carbon nanotubes reinforced composites (FG-CNTRC) cylindrical shell. Electro-magnetic loads are applied to the structure and it is located on an elastic foundation which is simulated by visco-Pasternak type. The properties of the nano-composite shell are assumed to be varied by temperature changes. The third-order shear deformation shells theory is used to describe the displacement components and Hamilton's principle is employed to derive the motion differential equations. To obtain the results, Navier's method is used as an analytical solution for simply supported boundary condition and the effect of different parameters such as temperature variations, orientation angle, volume fraction of CNTs, different types of elastic foundation and other prominent parameters on the natural frequencies of the structure are considered and discussed in details. Design more functional structures subjected to multi-physical fields is of applications of this study results.
The present work deals with second order statistics of post buckling response of piezoelectric laminated composite cylindrical shell panel subjected to hygro-thermo-electro-mechanical loading with random system properties. System parameters such as the material properties, thermal expansion coefficients and lamina plate thickness are assumed to be independent of the temperature and electric field and modeled as random variables. The piezoelectric material is used in the forms of layers surface bonded on the layers of laminated composite shell panel. The mathematical formulation is based on higher order shear deformation shell theory (HSDT) with von-Karman nonlinear kinematics. A efficient $C^0$ nonlinear finite element method based on direct iterative procedure in conjunction with a first order perturbation approach (FOPT) is developed for the implementation of the proposed problems in random environment and is employed to evaluate the second order statistics (mean and variance) of the post buckling load of piezoelectric laminated cylindrical shell panel. Typical numerical results are presented to examine the effect of various environmental conditions, amplitude ratios, electrical voltages, panel side to thickness ratios, aspect ratios, boundary conditions, curvature to side ratios, lamination schemes and types of loadings with random system properties. It is observed that the piezoelectric effect has a significant influence on the stochastic post buckling response of composite shell panel under various loading conditions and some new results are presented to demonstrate the applications of present work. The results obtained using the present solution approach is validated with those results available in the literature and also with independent Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS).
