A Study on Evaluation of Plastic Strain at Notch Tip of Weld HAZ in Steel (강 용접 열영향부 놋치 선단 의 소성 스트레인 평가에 관한 연구)

  • Recrystallization technique was applied to analyze plastic strain at the notch tip of coarse grain HAZ in mild steel (SB 41) and high strength steel (SA 588). The notch tip of specimen was deformed by three point bending. Accumulated displacement (Crack Opening Displacement ${delta}t$) by the monotonic and cyclic loading under room temperature and hot strain embrittlement temperature ($250^{\circ}C$) was 0~1.0mm. Recrystallization heat treatment conditions were $650^{circ}C{ imes}3hr$ for SB 41 and $700^{circ}C{ imes}3hr$ for SA 588. The experimental results obtained were as follows ; 1) Distribution of the effective plastic strain at plastic zone was appeared by the function of crack opening displacement, and plastic zone or the effective plastic strain increased with crack opening displacement. 2) Plastic strain at notch tip of HAZ due to accumulated hot strain calculated as follows. .epsilon. over bar $_{p}$ = .epsilon. over bar $_{cr}$ (x/ $R_{x}$ ) $^{m}$ (m=0.25) 3) Work hardending ratio of notch tip for hot strain was linearly increased with .epsilon. over bar $_{max}$ and dependent upon the material types.s.

  • Cyclodextrin is a cyclic oligosaccharid material which shows an ability to incorporate organic guest molecules inside their cavity area. Thus, this ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$ treatment on fiber substrates may provide the changed surface characteristics of the substrates such as solubility, chemical reactivity and spectral property. In this context, the aim of this present work is to make a bridge connection using hetero-bi-functional reactive dye between fiber substrates and ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$. In addition, the corresponding Berberine inclusion behaviors into the inner cavity of ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$ was examined. The %exhaustion of Berberine inclusion as a guest molecule within the ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$ was measured using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The findings showed that the %exhaustion of Berberine inclusion increased with increasing the prepared dye bridge compound and ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$ host material.

Application of Ultrasonography to Investigate Postpartum Anestrus in Water Buffaloes

  • Anestrus is one of the most important production limiting disorders in dairy buffaloes and its underlying causes have been a current topic of studies. The objectives of this study were to explore the causes of anestrus in buffaloes with the application of ultrasonography. Two examinations were performed by transrectal ultrasonography at 12 days apart in buffalo cows that were not seen in oestrus at 60 or more days postpartum. As high as 54.5% buffaloes had silent ovulation and 45.5% suffered from the true anestrus with ovarian dysfunction. The duration of anestrus after calving was 60~90, 91~120, 121~180 and 181~365 days in 27%, 32%, 18% and 23% buffalo cows, respectively. Treatment with prostaglandin of cyclic buffalo cows with a corpus luteum (72.7%) resulted in higher estrous rate as compared with close observation of estrus (23.1%) by the farmer (p=0.021). Acyclic buffalo cows without any corpus luteum on ovaries were successfully treated with gonadotropin releasing hormone (70%), resulting in higher estrous detection rate than those treated with a vitamin-mineral mixture (20%) (p=0.035). In conclusion, poor heat detection due to silent ovulation is the most important cause of apparent anoestrus in buffaloes; however the percentage of the true anestrous is also quite high in postpartum buffaloes.

Experimental Intervention to Reverse Inhibition of Nitric Oxide Production by Cyclosporin A in Rat Aortic Smooth Muscle Cells (혈관평활근세포에서 Cyclosporin A에 의한 Nitric Oxide 생성억제를 길항하는 실험적 중재법)

  • The inhibitory effect of cyclosporin A (CsA) on nitric oxide production is not related to the immunosuppressive action of the drug, but to the renal toxicity and arterial hyper-tension. In this study the experimental interventions to reverse the inhibition of nitric oxide production by cyclosporin A in rat aortic smooth muscle cells were examined. CsA inhibited the accumulation of nitrite, the stable end product of nitric oxide, in culture media in a concentration $(0.1{\sim}100{\mu}g/ml)-dependent$ manner. The inhibitory effect of CsA on nitrite accumulation were not antagonized by arginine (10 mM), a substrate of nitric oxide synthase, nor by calcium ionophore A23187 $(7{\mu}M)$. Forskolin, an activator of adenylate cyclase, which enhanced iNOS induction at transcriptional level, completely reversed the inhibitory action of CsA on nitrite accumulation. However, PMA (2 nM) and PDB (50 nM), PKC activators, increased the inhibitory action of CsA on nitrite accumulalion. From these results, it is suggested that cyclic AMP-elevating agents may be candidates of therapeutic agents in prevention and treatment of renal toxicity and arterial hypertension induced by CsA. Among conventional antihypertensive drugs, calcium channel blockers and ${\alpha}-blockers$ are preferred to ${\beta}-blockers$.

The Effects of LaF3 Coating on the Electrochemical Property of Li[Ni0.3Co0.4Mn0.3]O2 Cathode Material

  • The effect of $LaF_3$ coating on the structural and electrochemical properties of $Li[Ni_{0.3}Co_{0.4}Mn_{0.3}]O_{2}$ cathodes was investigated using XRD, SEM, TEM, and a cycler. The coating layer consisted of nano-sized particles attached nonuniformly to the surface of pristine powder. Despite the surface coating treatment, phase difference by $LaF_3$ coating was not detected. The discharge capacities of coated electrodes were a little lower than that of pristine sample at a 1 C rate. However, as the C rate increases, the capacity retention of the coated sample becomes obviously superior to that of the pristine sample. The cyclic performances of the electrodes in the voltage range of 4.8 $\sim$ 3.0 V were also improved by the surface coating. Such enhancement is attributed to the presence of the $LaF_3$ coating layer, which effectively suppressd the reaction between electrodes and electrolytes on the surface of the $Li[Ni_{0.3}Co_{0.4}Mn_{0.3}]O_{2}$ electrode.

  • RPSA (Rapid Pressure Swing Adsorption) is a cyclic process which can be used to separate gas mixtures by adsorption method. Oxygen which is separated from air is used to the medical oxygen generator and biological wastewater treatment process. RPSA uses only one adsorption bed, so it is very simple to operate compared to conventional PSA process. In this work experimental parameters were examined with RPSA setup and parameters for the oxygen separation from air were obtained.

  • One of the important roles of a DNA chip is the capability of detecting genetic diseases and mutations by analyzing DNA sequence. For a successful electrochemical genotyping, several aspects should be considered including the chemical treatment of electrode surface, DNA immobilization on electrode, hybridization, choice of an intercalator to be selectively bound to double standee DNA, and an equipment for detecting and analyzing the output signal. Au was used as the electrode material, 2-mercaptoethanol was used for linking DNA to Au electrode, and methylene blue was used as an indicator that can be bound to a double stranded DNA selectively. From the analysis of reductive current of this indicator that was bound to a double stranded DNA on an electrode, a normal double stranded DNA was able to be distinguished from a single stranded DNA in just a few seconds. Also, it was found that the peak reduction current of indicator is proportional to the concentration of target DNA to be hybridized with probe DNA. Therefore, it is possible to realize a sim71e and cheats DNA sensor using the electrochemical measurement for genotyping.

  • The purpose of this study is to research and develop $Li_xNi_{2-x}O_2$ cathode for lithium rechargeable battery. We investigated XRD, cyclic voltammetry, AC impedance response and charge/discharge cycling of $Li_xNi_{2-x}O_2$/Li cells. The cell resistance was decreased much at initial charge process from 100% SOC to 0% SOC. The discharge capacity based on $Li_xNi_{2-x}O_2$ of 1st and 15th cycles was 135mAh/g and 108mAh/g, respectively. The $Li_xNi_{2-x}O_2$/Li cell had a good properties.

  • $LiCoO_2$ powder was synthesized by Sol-Gel method using inorganic materials. The starting materials, $CH_3COOLi^*2H_2O\;and\;Co(CH_3COO)_2{^*}4H_2O$, were mixed in the atomic ratio Li/Co of 1 and dissolved in i-propanol with acetic acid. The solution was dried for gelation, and finally obtained the pre-powder. The pre-powder were studied by thermal analysis. Based on the TGA result, heat treatment was performed at various temperature(500 to $800^{\circ}C$) for 2h in air atmosphere. The crystal structure, morphology, electrochemical property were carried out using XRD, SEM, cyclic voltammetry(CV).

The Effect of Integrated Medicine for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Subfertility Patients; A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (다낭성 난소 증후군을 이환하는 난임 환자에서 통합 의학 치료의 효과 : 체계적 문헌 고찰 및 메타분석)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect on both herbal medicine periodic therapy and western medicine for polycystic ovary syndrome subfertility. Methods: We searched 8 electronic databases and search keywords were 'PCOS' and 'periodic therapy' or 'cyclic treatment'. We included randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) using the periodic therapy combined western medicine for PCOS patients. Results: We selected 8 studies. In studies, there were three studies in which the menstrual cycle was divided into 2 periods, one study divided into 3 periods, and four study divided into 4 periods. The meta-analysis of the 7 trials indicated that pregnancy rates integrated clomiphene and periodic therapy were higher than clomiphene alone. Conclusions: The periodic therapy combined western medicine for PCOS subfertility patients seems to improve pregnancy rates from this research. However, this result should be taken cautiously by unclear risk of bias. It would be necessary to fulfill further clinical study with herbal medicine periodic therapy on PCOS in Korean medicine to establish standard evidence of them.
