  • The major objective of this paper is to perform modeling of cyber attack and defense using vulnerability metrics. To do this, we have attempted command level modeling for realizing an approach of functional level proposed by Nong Ye, and we have defined vulnerability metrics that are able to apply to DEVS(Discrete Event System Specification) and performed modeling of cyber attack and defense using this. Our approach is to show the difference from others in that (ⅰ) it is able to analyze behaviors of system emerged by interaction with functional elements of components composing network and each other, (ⅱ) it is able to analyze vulnerability in quantitative manner, and (ⅲ) it is able to establish defense suitably by using the analyzed vulnerability. We examine an example of vulnerability analysis on the cyber attack and defense through case study.

  • With the evolution of technology, cyber physical systems (CPSs) are being upgraded, and new types of cyber attacks are being discovered accordingly. There are many forms of cyber attack, and all cyber attacks are made to manipulate the target systems. A representative system among cyber physical systems is a cyber physical power system (CPPS), that is, a smart grid. Smart grid is a new type of power system that provides reliable, safe, and efficient energy transmission and distribution. In this paper, specific types of cyber attacks well known as false data injection attacks targeting state estimation and energy distribution of smart grid, and protection strategies for defense of these attacks and dynamic monitoring for detection are described.

  • It is no exaggeration to say that we live with cyber threats every day. Nevertheless, it is difficult for us to obtain objective information about cyber threats and attacks because it is difficult to clearly identify the attacker, the purpose of attack, and the range of damage, and rely on information from a single source. In the preceding research of this study, we proposed the new approach for establishing Database (DB) for cyber attacks using Open Source Intelligence(OSINT). In this research, we present the evaluation factors for cyber threats among cyber attack DB and analyze the priority of those factors in oder to quantify cyber threats. We select the purpose of attack, attack category, target, ease of attack, attack persistence, frequency of OSINT DB, and factors of the lower layer for each factor as the evaluation factors for cyber threats. After selection, the priority of each factor is analyzed using the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP).

  • This paper addresses the control problem of cyber-physical systems under controller attack. A novel discontinuous Lyapunov functionals are employed to fully utilize sampled-data pattern which characteristic is commonly appeared in cyber-physical systems. By considering the limited resource of networks, cyber-attacks on the controller are considered randomly occurring and are described as an attack function which is nonlinear but assumed to be satisfying Lipschitz condition. Novel criteria for designing controller with robustness for cyber-attacks are developed in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI). Finally, a numerical example is given to prove the usefulness of the proposed method.

  • The most threatening attack that has become a hot topic of recent IT security is APT Attack.. So far, there is no way to respond to APT attacks except by using artificial intelligence techniques. Here, we have implemented a machine learning algorithm for analyzing cyber threat data using machine learning method, using a data set that collects cyber attack cases using Scikit Learn, a big data machine learning framework. The result showed an attack classification accuracy close to 70%. This result can be developed into the algorithm of the security control system in the future.

  • Various cyber attacks against our society and the government are continuing, and cases and damages are reported from time to time. And the area of cyber attack is not limited to cyberspace, but it is expanding into physical domain and affecting it. In the military arena, we have established and implemented the principle of responding proportionally to enemy physical attacks. This proportionality principle is also required in the version where the region is expanding. In order to apply it, it is necessary to have a quantitative and qualitative countermeasure against cyber attack. However, due to the nature of cyber attacks, it is not easy to assess the damage accurately and it is difficult to respond to the proportionality principle and the proportional nature. In this study, we calculated the damage scale by quantitatively and qualitatively evaluating the cyber attack damage using the Gorden-Lobe model and the security scoring technique based on the scenario. It is expected that the calculated results will be provided as appropriate level and criterion to counteract cyber attack.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the characteristics of cyber attacks and major threat scenarios that could occur around intelligent building management Systems(IBS) by cyber attack security threats against cyber physics systems. Generally determined that lowering the likelihood of aggression against predictable threats would be a more realistic approach to attack response. The countermeasures against this need to be applied to multi-layered defense systems, and three alternatives were proposed: preliminary cyber safety diagnosis for protection targets and the establishment of mobile security control systems.

  • In recent years, cyber terror that break into major institution's information system and destroy and paralyzed important information occurs frequently. Some countries do dangerous acts such as train hackers and order hackers to hack important industrial confidential documents which are core of national competitiveness to reduce the competitiveness of the country and cause social confusion. In this thesis, it will study problems of cyber terror to help people to use Internet in web environment that safe from cyber terror and to avoid the risk from cyber terror such as malware and DDos. This thesis is organized as following. In second chapter, it will look thorough the research that are related to cyber terror. In third chapter, it will study attack types of cyber terror. In fourth chapter, to defend from cyber violence, it will suggest safe solution. In fifth chapter, it will end with conclusion. Finally, to prevent urgent incidents like North Korean Cyber-attack, every Internet user must indicate their recognition on Internet security and it is significant to make a quick response treatment to create the safe online environment.

  • The need for cyber resilience is increasingly important in our technology-dependent society where computing devices and data have been, and will continue to be, the target of cyber-attackers, particularly advanced persistent threat (APT) and nation-state/sponsored actors. APT and nation-state/sponsored actors tend to be more sophisticated, having access to significantly more resources and time to facilitate their attacks, which in most cases are not financially driven (unlike typical cyber-criminals). For example, such threat actors often utilize a broad range of attack vectors, cyber and/or physical, and constantly evolve their attack tactics. Thus, having up-to-date and detailed information of APT's tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) facilitates the design of effective defense strategies as the focus of this paper. Specifically, we posit the importance of taxonomies in categorizing cyber-attacks. Note, however, that existing information about APT attack campaigns is fragmented across practitioner, government (including intelligence/classified), and academic publications, and existing taxonomies generally have a narrow scope (e.g., to a limited number of APT campaigns). Therefore, in this paper, we leverage the Cyber Kill Chain (CKC) model to "decompose" any complex attack and identify the relevant characteristics of such attacks. We then comprehensively analyze more than 40 APT campaigns disclosed before 2018 to build our taxonomy. Such taxonomy can facilitate incident response and cyber threat hunting by aiding in understanding of the potential attacks to organizations as well as which attacks may surface. In addition, the taxonomy can allow national security and intelligence agencies and businesses to share their analysis of ongoing, sensitive APT campaigns without the need to disclose detailed information about the campaigns. It can also notify future security policies and mitigation strategy formulation.
