The forthcoming century will be the "era of cyber society" . In a virtual environment, a cyber character plays the role of an agent for the human being. In this paper, we introduce active researches of industries, universities, and research institutes in Korea. After Adam Soft Inc. presented a cyber singer,“Adam”, a few cyber characters have succeeded commercially through Internet, TV, CF, movies and etc. Some universities had their own characters to make fundamental researches in the fields of modeling, motion control, and VR. Research institutes have been funded recently to a cyber character related researches. This paper briefly reviews the recent research works, and future trends in Korea. in Korea.

This study examined the current state of digital libraries in Korean cyber universities and suggested recommendations for improvements. The study conducted a survey and face-to-face interviews with people in charge of managing cyber university digital libraries, and analyzed library Web sites as well as library holdings and budget information available from the university information disclosure. The examples of cyber university digital libraries in other countries were also analyzed. Based on the findings, the study developed guidelines and policies for improving cyber university digital libraries and suggested a hosting-based digital library system. The findings of this study is expected to contribute to enhancing the quality of education in cyber universities.

Sustainable development has been recognized as one of the most important issues in economic growth since quantitative growth reached its limit. It is claimed that a non-economic value such as human right, education, welfare, and health is a vital factor for sustainable development. Most of all, education is considered to be the most important key to build up sustainable society. E-learning could make it easier for all to spread equal education out. This paper suggests a model for cyber universities which can explain how much cyber universities contribute to improve the sustainable development and what social responsibilities cyber university can carry out as lifelong education institutes. Cyber universities in Korea seem to aim quasipublic, openness, and integration to solve the educational issues we face and uncover their growth potential. Cyber universities will contribute to build sustainable society through giving a huge education opportunities for all based on boosting liberal art education, mass-education, globalization, and commercialization.

To study about core capability which becomes the kernel of sustainable competitive advantage (SCA) in cyber university which confronts competition-deepening circumstance, the value and importance of brand and educational services of cyber universities which stand on the basis of offline university were examined. Moreover, core capability based on the importance of cyber university service was searched, and its strategic course were suggested. Within research processes, competition environment of cyber university was forecasted, and importance to build up its core capability was examined. Moreover, conjoint analysis was carried out for three offline cyber universities. As a result of survey analysis, effectiveness of cyber university brand showed greater influence than other characteristics in terms of the influence which affects consumer preference for cyber university. Therefore, to overcome weaknesses of brand asset in low brand power cyber university, establishment of strong core capability which reflects consumer preference is needed to carry out differentiation strategy or concentration strategy, and it is necessary to consider the introduction of new competitiveness structure.

Drop-out issue is one of the challenges of cyber university. There are about 130,000 students enrolled in cyber universities, but the dropout rate is also very high. To lower the dropout rate, cyber universities invest heavily in learning analytics. Some cyber universities analyze the possibility of dropout and actively support students who are more likely to drop out. The purpose of this paper is to identify the learning data affecting the dropout prediction index. As a result of the analysis, it is confirmed that number of lessons(progress), credits, achievement and leave of absence have a significant effect on dropout rate. It is necessary to increase the accuracy of the prediction model through post-test on the student dropout prediction index.

Students in cyber universities can take every course because there are no physical constraints such as class rooms. On the other hand. cyber universities should take a heavy burden to schedule real-time exams in a designated time period. Any two courses a student takes must not be simultaneously allocated to a time slot in such a schedule. It is well known that the complexity of this kind of scheduling problem increases exponentially as the number of courses does. This research provides a heuristic method to make on-line real-time exam timetables with minimal exam time span. It considers the constraint of not allocating courses a student takes to simultaneous exam time and prioritizes courses by the number of students.

This research describes the definition of the characteristics and the role of cyber education through examination of the general situations of sixteen cyber Universities which have been operated in 2003. This research argued about problems and improvements of cyber university in terms of present registration condition of each University. Through the analysis of the data of Korean Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development in 2002. This research also analyzed qualitative aspects of design education that consist in cyber university through comparative analysis of characteristics, department names, a curriculum, a taxonomy of lecture type which are related to design major in each University. As a conclusion, this research emphasized the importance and the meaning of interaction between an instructor and students for successful cyber lecture.

The purpose of this study is to identify strategic insights for cyber universities to secure a competitive advantage based on market analysis grounded in customer needs and motivations. As a research method, we surveyed and analyzed college students using conjoint analysis, identified the importance of cyber university components, estimated the utility of each detailed level, and identified the configuration of cyber universities most preferred by potential customers. In the study results, the importance of attributes that appeared by analyzing all respondents was in the order of 'expected ourcoms after graduation', 'department characteristic', 'cyber university name', and 'learning management style'. Cluster analysis was performed, divided into two groups, and conjoint analysis was performed. For Cluster 1, the importance values of the components were 'expected outcomes after graduation,' 'learning management style,' 'cyber university name,' and 'department characteristics,' in that order. For Cluster 2, the importance values were 'expected outcomes after graduation,' 'department characteristics,' 'cyber university name,' and 'learning management style,' in that order. As an application of the research, As an application of the study, it is suggested that analyzing the preferences of potential customers in the entire group is not accurate; therefore, segmenting the groups for analysis and strategy formulation can be useful.

The purpose of this study was to examine the role of self-directed learning readiness between career maturity and academic stress. To examine it, a total of 582 cyber universities were participated in this study, and correlation analysis and regression analysis were conducted. Therefore, career maturity was significantly positive correlated with self-directed learning readiness and it was significantly negative correlated with academic stress. In addition, it was revealed that self-directed learning readiness mediated between career maturity and academic stress. Based on the results, we discussed the strategies for reducing academic stress for cyber students, limitations and suggestions for future researches were also discussed.

Many of learners in cyber universities have experienced the difficulties of learning and participation because they have never participated courses of cyber universities before. One of main reasons why they have experienced the difficulties was that they might have not received systematic guidances of university system as well as learning supports, depending on their readiness of e-learning. Otherwise, they may have lack of supports frequently and finally, fail to graduate. However, few studies were conducted to investigate the e-learning readiness of freshmen and enrollees in cyber universities. The purpose of the study was to analyze the e-learning readiness and learning activities of freshmen and enrollees of A cyber university and to support them more systematically and get them to succeed in studying. In the results, there were no differences between the freshmen and enrollees in basic competencies of cyber learning as well as interaction, task performance, and learning methods.
